There are numerous Memorial Day Observances scheduled for today.

~ Starting in Madison, American Legion Ralph W. Shirley Post 46 of Conway’s ceremonies start at 8am at the Lyman Cemetery on High Street in Silver Lake, followed by a bus ride from Madison Town Hall at 8:30am to the Gilman Cemetery in East Madison for an 8:45am ceremony with Kennett High School musicians playing “Taps” at 9am. A parade will follow, ending at the Veterans Memorial at Madison Town Hall, where a flag ceremony will be held. Afterward, a community breakfast by donation only will be hosted at the neighboring Madison Fire Station to support the Madison Old Home Week Committee.

~ A parade will be held in Jackson Village- participants include Jackson Grammar School Band, Bartlett VFW, and American Legion Post 95. They will be gathering at 9am at J-Town Deli and proceed at 9:30am to the Jackson Village Cemetery. The VFW and Post 95 will next head to the Intervale Cemetery on Route 16A. They will then travel back to Glen, and a small march will take place to the Glen Cemetery, followed by a trip to Bartlett Village, where another procession will be held at 11:30am from near the ball field to Fred Hodgkins Veterans Park at Josiah Bartlett Elementary School. Then Post 95 and the Bartlett VFW will travel south to the North Conway cemetery for observances at 1pm.

~ In Conway, members of American Legion Post 46 will hold a wreath laying ceremony at 11:30am at the Conway Veterans Honor Roll outside Kennett Middle School in Conway Village. At 12pm, they will gather at the Conway Village Cemetery on Washington Street in Conway Village, where members will participate in raising the colors, a military gun salute, and laying of a wreath. At 1pm, Mineral Springs Rehab and Retirement Center will honor veterans. At 1:45pm, members will do a wreath ceremony at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church on Pleasant Street in Conway. At 2:30pm, a luncheon buffet will be served at American Legion Ralph W. Shirley Post 46 on Tasker Hill Rd.

~ In Ossipee, a service will be presented at Ossipee Town Hall, 55 Main St. at 10:30am.

~ In Tamworth, a brief observance organized by the Veterans’ Memorial Committee will be held at 12pm at Tamworth’s Veterans’ Memorial at the junction of Main Street and Route 113/113A. The flag will be raised and “Taps” will be played.

~ In Maine, the Lovell/Fryeburg VFW Post 6783 will hold a commemoration in Lovell Village at 11am at the Memorial Monument. A service will be conducted with “Taps” played by Fryeburg Academy students. Service members will then travel to Fryeburg to assemble at the Legion Hall on Bradley Street by 12:30pm for a 1pm start to the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will proceed down Main Street to Bradley Park, where a memorial service will take place, featuring guest speaker; Acting Major Jarrod Crockett, Army Reserve.
