TAYLOR SWIFT TRADEMARKS ‘SWIFTIES’ – (03/16/2017)
Taylor Swift’s TAS Rights Management filed a whopping nine trademarks for “Swifties” last month. Billboard explains that she may be developing “a personalized fan club app complete with exclusive merchandise, audio/video/live performances, and the possibility of a mobile game.”
It’s not, as TMZ indicated earlier, a streaming service aimed at competing with her enemy Spotify. Swift removed her music from that platform in 2014, saying, “I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.” She has since shilled for Apple Music – where her catalog is available – having made amends with another one-time foe.
Billboard notes Swift also appears to be establishing some sort of education program, given that one of the trademarks is linked to “classes, conferences, coaching, lectures, camps, retreats, seminars, educational summits, workshops, self-guided classes and self-guided online courses of instruction.”

SHAWN MENDES TO STAR IN ‘SUMMER OF LOVE’ MUSICAL – (03/16/2017)
Shawn Mendes has been tapped to star in Ivan Reitman’s big screen musical Summer of Love. The film will be Reitman’s first foray into the genre. The title is believed to reference the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people converged in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in opposition to the Vietnam War.
The film will mark the first time Mendes has appeared on the big screen, although the 18-year old musician lent his voice to the 2013 animated adventure Underdogs in which he played Jake, a master foosball player.
Reitman is still in the process of shopping the film to studios for production and distribution.
CHICAGO STUDENTS THANK CHANCE THE RAPPER FOR HIS HEFTY DONATION – (03/16/2017)
Chicago students have thanked Chance the Rapper for his $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools. According to Billboard, several students from Lake View High School penned the rapper a thank you letter for his generosity. They said, “We as Chicago Public School students would like to thank you for the supportive donation to our schools. As we all know, CPS has been struggling financially, and your donation has really given us a push to get to where we need to be and possibly motivate others to give back to the community as well. This is only one of the many things that you have done to improve our Chicago.”
The students continued, “You’re more than just an artist to us, you are a way of life. You make music that we can relate to on many levels, because you know what living in Chicago is like, and you want to make changes in the city. We may not be from the same side but we come from the same city. We just want to thank you for not forgetting where you came from and helping the city of Chicago in more ways than just being an inspirational rapper. You’re using your fame for good and not just to look good. You gave $1 million dollars of your personal money to Chicago schools and that’s something no one has done for us.”
- They closed out the letter, saying, “We thank you for supporting Chicago’s minority youth when not many others have put time to think about the kids. As minority students we feel ignored and as though we don’t have enough support from bigger influences like you. Being born and raised in Chicago is not easy at all. There are so many stereotypes and restrictions we have as teenagers due to the frequent violence and crimes. Your music puts some at ease because we know that someone cares and someone has experienced these daily struggles too. You and your music have taught us that you can be true to yourself and still be successful, still be self-made.”
- Chance responded to the letter via Twitter. He wrote, “I appreciate you guys, and you’ll be happy to know the work has only just started. Huge things to come over the next 2weeks.”
MISCHA BARTON HIRES LAWYER TO BATTLE SEX TAPE RELEASE – (03/16/2017)
Mischa Barton has hired a lawyer following reports that a sex tape involving the actress has begun circulating among porn companies. “I am very proud to represent actress Mischa Barton, who is courageously standing up for her rights,” Barton’s attorney Lisa Bloom said in a statement on Facebook. “It has been reported that naked or sexually explicit images of Ms. Barton are being ‘shopped around.’ Ms. Barton does not consent to any disclosure of any such images She believes that she was recorded without her consent by someone she was seeing at the time,” she continued.
“There’s a name for this disgusting conduct: revenge pornography,” adds Bloom. “Revenge pornography is a form of sexual assault, and it is also a crime and a civil wrong in California. And we will not stand for it.” “I have a message for anyone who attempts to traffic in these photos or videos of Ms. Barton: we will find you, and we will come after you. We will fully prosecute you under every available criminal and civil law. You proceed at your peril.”
The report come less than two months after Barton, 31, willingly went to the hospital the morning after celebrating her birthday in January, later claiming someone drugged her with GHB while she drinking with friends the night of the celebration.
Two weeks later, Barton was involved in an accident in which she crashed a U-Haul truck into an apartment building while moving out of her apartment.
