Today marks the 16th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The North Conway American Legion Post 95 will be hosting the annual September 11th Commemorative Service this morning at 8:46am in Schouler Park and at 5pm at the Jackson Covered Bridge.

Community Members, guests to the valley, and members of our Emergency Response Teams are requested to form at the park at 8:30am. Steve Woodcock, organizer of the Annual MWV 9/11 Memorial Service will welcome and emcee the event.

Rev. Gilman Healy, pastor of North Conway’s First Church of Christ Congregational will begin the service with a moment of silence. Followed by the ringing of the bell 4 times symbolizing the four crash sites. The group singing “God Bless America” will be led by Muriel Magg followed by the laying of the roses at the base of the flag. The ceremony will close with comments from Rev. Healy then followed by the playing of “Taps” by Kennett High School student, Missy Jones.

There will also be the America Supports You Freedom Walk at 5pm today starting on the Route 16 side of the Jackson Covered Bridge. The walk, facilitated by the Jackson Chamber of Commerce will begin after a few words from guests, a moment of silence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the National Anthem at 5:30pm.

After the walk the shovel handle pub is opening its doors to veterans, police, and fire and rescue personnel for complimentary food.

We should all look at this as a day of reflection and have a special observance of the men and women who we lost on and since September 11th, 2001.

Never Forget. 9/11/2001
