Beyoncé, Drake, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and a host of others participated in the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief telethon to raise money for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims. According to Complex, the event was organized by Scooter Braun and Bun B, and reportedly raised over $14 million.

The multi-network telethon included special performances from Stevie Wonder, Usher, Luis Fonsi, Tori Kelly and Dave Matthews. Beyoncé even spoke on the destruction on her hometown, Houston, Texas, saying, “Natural disasters don’t discriminate. They don’t see if you’re an immigrant, black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Jewish or Muslim, wealthy or poor […] Seeing everyone of different racial, social, and religious backgrounds put their own lives at risk to help each other survive restored my faith in humanity. True healing is in helping. Please, give what you can.”

  • Drake also gave a speech during the telethon and said, “With so much happening in the world, it’s truly amazing to see our generation be conscious and aware. It’s even more amazing to see us come together to help as best we can. These days it seems as if one issue is ending, another is beginning, and I know it can be extremely overwhelming, but your attention and your assistance is of extreme importance. On some days it will be about speaking up. On other days it will be about stepping up. And in today’s case, we’re asking that you give. Give whatever you can to help people just like you rebuild their families and their homes and get back to life as they once knew it.”

J.J. Abrams is stepping in to replace Colin Trevorrow as the director of Star Wars: Episode IX.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy in a statement.

  • Trevorrow left Star Wars earlier this month, in part because of conflicts with Kennedy, according to multiple reports. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio.
  • Abrams helped breathe new life into the franchise with 2015’s The Force Awakens, which raked in more than $2 billion worldwide.
  • This marks the third time a director has been replaced on a Star Wars film. (Phil Lord and Chris Miller were ousted from the Han Solo standalone and replaced with Ron Howard. Gareth Edwards was replaced with Tony Gilroy on 2016’s Rogue One).
  • Episode IX is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
