TAYLOR SWIFT BREAKS SILENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA BACKLASH, TO STAR IN ADS FOR FUJIFILM INSTAX CAMERAS – (05/10/2018)

Taylor Swift’s album Reputation seems inspired by the hits her image has taken over the past few years, from feuds with other celebs to online battles with her ex. But she hasn’t confirmed that until Tuesday night at her tour kickoff in Glendale, Arizona.

Regarding the tour’s snake motif, which includes a snake microphone, snake merch, a snake-shaped platform and images of snakes on video screens, Taylor offered an explanation halfway through the show

“A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on. Then a lot of people were calling me a lot of things on social media,” Taylor said. “And I went through some really low times for a while because of it. I went through some times when I didn’t know if I was going to get to do this anymore.”

Swift was apparently referring to an episode in 2016 when she clashed with rapper Kanye West after he called her a “b**ch” and took credit for her fame in his song, “Famous.” Things got even more heated when his wife, Kim Kardashian West, shared a video on social media of a call between West and Swift in an attempt to prove Swift knew about the West lyric and had signed off on it. Kim also tweeted at the time about National Snake Day, which some interpreted as being aimed at Swift. “Wait it’s legit National Snake Day?!?!?They have holidays for everybody, I mean everything these days,” she wrote, with a slew of snake emojis.

Taylor turned her pain into a teachable moment on Tuesday.

“I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name-calling to bully you on social media…that doesn’t have to defeat you. It can strengthen you instead,” she said. “I learned a really important lesson that I’ve been telling you from the stage for about 10 years, but I never had to learn it so harshly myself,” Taylor declared. “That you shouldn’t care so much if you feel misunderstood by a lot of people who don’t know you, as long as you feel understood by the people who do know you…the people who will show up for you, the people who see you as a human being.”

The concert also it boasted a surprise appearance from Tiffany Haddish, who delivered, via pre-recorded video, the “Taylor can’t come to the phone” line in “Look What You Made Me Do.”

Meanwhile, Taylor doesn’t just want you to come to her tour – she wants you to document it with Fujifilm’s instax cameras. Fujifilm has signed on as a global sponsor of Taylor’s tour, including two new dates in Tokyo on November 20th and 21st. As part of the deal, each tour stop will feature custom instax “experience booths” for fans, as well as interactive activities. Taylor, who is described as a “longtime instax user,” will appear in TV commercials for the cameras, as well as in an online campaign. Fujifilm’s instax cameras let you take pictures then create physical color prints of them on the spot.
