EMILIA CLARKE & KIT HARINGTON ADDRESS ‘GOT’ BACKLASH AS VIEWERS SPOT ANOTHER ERROR – (05/21/2019)

Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive.

Emilia Clarke is addressing the fans who were less than pleased—enraged, more like it—by her character Dany’s personal arc on HBO’s Game of Thrones. The final episode aired Sunday and viewers sounded off on social media not only about Clarke’s character, but also by yet another out-of-place on-set beverage.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she discussed her character’s descent into homicidal madness, and put her personal spin on why she did the things she did.

Clarke explains how the beloved rebel turned into a psychotic dictator thusly: “The problem is [the Starks] don’t like her and she sees it. She goes, ‘Okay, one chance.’ She gives them that chance and it doesn’t work and she’s too far to turn around. She’s made her bed, she’s laying in it. It’s done. And that’s the thing. I don’t think she realizes until it happens—the real effect of their reactions on her is: ‘I don’t give a sh*t.’ This is my whole existence. Since birth! She literally was brought into this world going, ‘Run!’ These f*ckers have f*cked everything up, and now it’s, ‘You’re our only hope.’”

One breaking, she said, was her incestuous relationship with Kit Harington’s character Jon Snow: “And there’s just this last thread she’s holding onto: There’s this boy. And she thinks, ‘He loves me, and I think that’s enough.’ But is it enough? Is it? And it’s just that hope and wishing that finally there is someone who accepts her for everything she is and…he f*cking doesn’t.”

But then, Missandei dies: “There’s a number of turning points you see for Daenerys in the season, but that’s the biggest break. There’s nothing I will not do after losing Missandei and seeing the sacrifice she was prepared to make for her. That breaks her completely. There’s nothing left to making a tough choice.”

And despite it all, she told EW, “Having said all of the things I’ve just said…I stand by Daenerys. I stand by her! I can’t not.”

Harington’s response was less measured. “Whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgement on it, in my head they can go f–k themselves,” he tells Esquire. “Because I know how much work was put into this.”

WATER BOTTLE

Meanwhile, it seems hydration is a priority in Westeros. Fans noticed a plastic water bottle near Sir Samwell Tarlyl’s left foot in Sunday night’s finale, and immediately took to Twitter to heap scorn on the show, which, despite its sky-high budget, has been plagued with editing errors this season.

One person tweeted: “I’ve never seen Game of Thrones before, but I fear for the PA who left a Starbucks cup AND a water bottle in the shot during two separate episodes,” alluding to a rogue Starbucks cup, which appeared on-set two episodes ago.

While HBO edited out the Starbucks coffee post-airing, it’s unclear if the water bottle will meet the same fate.

THE VIEW

Meghan McCain apologized Monday after revealing the Game of Thrones ending on air on The View and spoiling it for fans who hadn’t seen it yet.

Her hosts were furious; Whoopi Goldberg got up and walked away for a moment and Sunny Hostin gasped, claiming she’d only gotten to season four.

“I’m sorry, but it’s all over the internet,” she noted. “I wasn’t told I wasn’t allowed to say it. I’m sorry, everyone. It’s all over the internet. You would have found out one way or the other. As a dedicated fan who watched it live last night like everyone was supposed to, OK?”

OPRAH WINFREY CLAPS BACK AT STUDENT DEBT CRITIC – (05/21/2019)

After Oprah Winfrey gave a rousing commencement speech at Colorado College, one critic took to social media to say she should have paid off the graduates’ student debt, like billionaire Robert F. Smith did.

Smith also gave a commencement address, in his case at Morehouse College, a private all-male, historically black college. In it, he announced that his family was setting up a grant to pay off the student loans of the entire 2019 graduating class.

Following her speech, Winfrey posted a shot of herself and a Colorado College grad, captioning it with a note that said she shook hands with all 571 grads and gifted them with a copy of her book, The Path Made Clear.

Several celebs took note; Gwyneth Paltrow called her a “hero,” and Cat Cora called her an “inspiration.” However, one commenter was less impressed, saying she should have paid off their debt instead of giving them a book.

Commenters were swift to respond, pointing to her famous philanthropic efforts across the globe, which includes programs to help Morehouse College grads, fund $12 million worth of scholarships for Morehouse students, and founding a school for girls in South Africa.

“Oprah is the GOAT of giving. Shame on anyone who questions the impact she’s had on countless lives. Do your homework!!” one user commented.

CELINE DION DOES ‘CARPOOL KARAOKE’ – (05/21/2019)

Celine Dion belted out her classics on “Carpool Karaoke.”

The 51-year-old legendary singer joined host James Corden for the Late Late Show segment on Monday in Las Vegas, where she has a residency.

Besides showing James that she has a song for every moment, Celine also did a dramatic rendition of “Baby Shark” and had no idea if she owns 3,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 pairs of shoes. When Corden revealed that they had some of her shoes in the car and were going to give the shoes away to random people on the street, Céline panicked, but she did it anyway.

She also shared a story about how when she gave birth to her son, before she even got to hold the baby, the doctor was on TV showing the baby off, and so she had to turn off the TV.

The whole event ended with a performance of “My Heart Will Go On” with Dion and Corden standing in a recreation of the front of the Titanic, which was floating inside the Bellagio lake.
