BILLIE EILISH NAMED APPLE MUSIC’S ARTIST OF THE YEAR – (12/04/2019)

Billie Eilish has been named Apple Music’s Global Artist of the Year for 2019.

The 17-year-old will be honored and perform today at the first-ever Apple Music Awards at Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California.

Eilish also received Album of the Year for her debut studio album, When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? released in March. The album was the most-played album on Apple Music this year, with more than a billion streams.

In addition, Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, will receive the Songwriter of the Year award. Apple Music also awarded Lizzo with Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Lil Nas X with Song of the Year for “Old Town Road.”

Eilish confirmed the news in a tweet. Apple released a video featuring footage from Eilish’s music videos and concerts.

When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? features the singles “You Should See Me in a Crown,” “When the Party’s Over” and “All the Good Girls Go to Hell.” Eilish most recently released the song “Everything I Wanted” in November.

Eilish is nominated for six awards at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

ALICIA KEYS, MEGAN THEE STALLION, ROSALIA TO BE HONORED AT BILLBOARD EVENT – (12/04/2019)

Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion and Rosalía will all receive awards at the Billboard Women in Music celebration December 12th in Los Angeles.

Keys will be honored with the American Express Impact Award for her work with She is the Music, a movement to empower female creators in the music industry. Keys helped launch the organization in 2018.

Megan Thee Stallion will receive the Powerhouse Award for her hit songs, which include “Hot Girl Summer.”

Rosalía will be honored with the Rising Star Award for her influence on today’s mainstream music.

“Women in Music is a celebration of artists and executives who are changing the world through their work. We are excited to honor Alicia Keys, Rosalía and Meghan Thee Stallion, whose singular visions and voices are shifting our culture while inspiring fans to stay true to themselves,” Billboard editorial director Hannah Karp said.

Billboard previously announced that Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Alanis Morissette, Nicki Minaj, Brandi Carlile and Desiree Perez will be honored at the event. Hayley Kiyoko will host the ceremony.

Keys is working on her seventh studio album. She will host the 2020 Grammy Awards in January.

RIHANNA ACCEPTS FASHION AWARDS HONOR FROM JANET JACKSON: Rihanna was honored by Janet Jackson at the 2019 Fashion Awards in London. Rihanna received the Urban Luxe Award for her fashion house Fenty at the awards show Monday. Jackson presented Rihanna with the award, which honors a contemporary apparel brand that elevates the concept of casual. “You’re loved for your style, you’re respected as an artist, entrepreneur and for the first black woman to start a brand with LVMH,” Jackson told Rihanna. Rihanna partnered with LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group, this year to relaunch Fenty as a luxury fashion house. Rihanna is the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH and the first woman of color to head an LVMH maison.

LIL NAS X, NORMANI, LAUV MAKE ‘FORBES’ ‘30 UNDER 30’ LIST: Lil Nas X, Normani and Lauv are among the musicians who’ve made Forbes’ annual “30 Under 30” list of the brightest young stars in showbiz. Lil Nas X earned the honor based on his genre-smashing, record-setting hit “Old Town Road,” which has earned him an estimated $14 million. As for Normani, Forbes says her duet with Sam Smith, “Dancing with a Stranger,” was “world’s most-played radio track in 2019.” The musicians on the list were was chosen by rapper 21 Savage, The Chainsmokers, artist manager Adriana Arce and songwriter Mickey Shiloh. Others on the list include Da Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Tierra Whack, Illenium, Tyler, The Creator, Maggie Rogers, King Princess, Chloe X Halle, Summer Walker, Teyana Taylor, Jon Bellion, Billie Eilish’s brother/collaborator Finneas O’Connell, Maluma, and country stars Luke Combs and Carly Pearce. Billie Eilish isn’t on the list because you can’t be on it twice, and she was on last year’s Forbes list.
