There was apparently trouble in paradise long before Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis announced their breakup after 14 years together. Us Weekly reported that Paradis grew to resent her partner’s success as her own signing career stalled.
A source told the magazine, “Vanessa started to feel like she’d sacrificed her career for his.”
The insider added, “Nothing Johnny did was ever good enough for Vanessa. When he was working, she wasn’t happy. And when he wasn’t working, he was called a slob for not doing enough for the kids and her family.”
Her anger eventually came out and the two would have “blazing fights.” The source claims that as Vanessa took her frustrations out on Johnny, he “started to drink heavily.”
Although they just confirmed the split, Us Weekly claims they started to go their separate ways in 2010. The source added, “Johnny was heartbroken. But they agreed the kids’ lives shouldn’t be affected. That’s why they didn’t announce it.” The couple has two children; Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10.
