Local Civil Air Patrol

A FORMER PILOT IS STARTING A CIVIL AIR PATROL SQUADRON IN THE MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY – AND NAMING IT IN TRIBUTE TO THE FATHER AND SON WHO OWNED AND RAN THE FORMER WHITE MOUNTAIN AIRPORT, THE CURRENT SITE OF SETTLERS GREEN OUTLET VILLAGE.

CAPT. DANA HYLEN – WHO JOINED THE CIVIL AIR PATROL DECADES AGO IN MASSACHUSETTS – WILL COMMAND THE SQUADRON, WHICH WILL PROVIDE CHILDREN FROM 12 TO 18 YEARS OLD TRAINING IN LEADERSHIP, AEROSPACE, COMMUNITY SERVICE, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES.

C.A.P. IS THE OFFICIAL AUXILIARY OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE AND IS MADE UP OF MORE THAN 61,000 VOLUNTEER CIVILIAN MEMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING CHILDREN AND ADULTS.

HYLEN SAYS NORTH CONWAY RESIDENT WYLIE APTE, SR. WAS A MEMBER OF THE CIVIL AIR PATROL WHO FLEW COASTAL AIR PATROL MISSIONS DURING WORLD WAR II OUT OF PORTLAND, MAINE.

HIS SON, WYLIE APTE, JR., DIED EARLY IN 2012.

SQUADRON MEMBERS WILL MEET EACH THURSDAYS AT 6:30 P.M. AT KENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL IN CONWAY STARTING OCTOBER 25^TH .

THAT NIGHT WILL ALSO SERVE AS AN OPEN HOUSE TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT PROSPECTIVE MEMBERSHIP FOR CADETS AND ADULTS.

ADULT SUPERVISORS ARE ALSO NEEDED.
