The happy news of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy has taken a tragic turn as a nurse at King Edward VII Hospital has committed suicide over a prank from an Australian radio station. On Friday (December 7th), 46-year-old Jacintha Saldanha was found unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.

Jacintha Saldanha was the victim of a seemingly innocent stunt involving two DJs who called the hospital where Middleton had been receiving care and pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. Saldanha received the call and put it through to a second nurse who went on to give out private information about Kate and her pregnancy.

  • Gossipcop is reporting that the radio personalities, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, have stopped doing their show until further notice out of respect over the incident.
  • A statement from St. James’ Palace reads, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
