Moultonborough Man Found Not Guilty Of Assault

A 61-YEAR-OLD MOULTONBOROUGH MAN HAS BEEN FOUND NOT GUILTY OF CHARGES HE ENGAGED IN A PATTERN OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS AGAINST A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL.

MELISSA SMITH – WHO HEADS THE VICTIM WITNESS PROGRAM FOR THE CARROLL COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE – SAYS AFTER DELIBERATING FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR MONDAY MORNING (DEC. 10, 2012) A SUPERIOR COURT JURY IN OSSIPEE FOUND JOHN TIMOTHY CAHOON OF SINGING EAGLE RD. NOT GUILTY ON TWO FELONY COUNTS.

THE JURY GOT THE CASE LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AFTER HEARING ABOUT FOUR DAYS OF TESTIMONY.

CAHOON WAS CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF AGGRAVATED FELONIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT – AND ONE COUNT OF FELONIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT – FOR ALLEGEDLY ENGAGING IN A PATTERN OF IMPROPER SEXUAL CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM BETWEEN LATE JANUARY OF 2008 AND LATE DECEMBER OF 2011.

BOTH THE VICTIM AND CAHOON TESTIFIED DURING THE TRIAL.

SMITH SAYS CAHOON WILL NOW REMAIN FREE ON BAIL PENDING A SEPARATE CASE, WHERE HE WAS ARRESTED BY MOULTONBOROUGH POLICE IN EARLY NOVEMBER (2012) AND CHARGED WITH POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.

MOULTONBOROUGH POLICE SGT. PETER BEEDE JR. SAID THAT ARREST WAS BASED ON A WARRANT CHARGING CAHOON WITH 10 CLASS A FELONY COUNTS.

CAHOON HAS NOT YET BEEN INDICTED ON THE PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES AND DETAILS ABOUT THE CASE HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.
