ACCORDING TO THE CONWAY DAILY SUN…  THE MAJESTIC THEATER AND CONWAY CAFE WILL BE PERMANENTLY CLOSING THIS COMING THURSDAY. BOTH MAINSTREET ENTITIES ARE OWNED BY THE QUIRK FAMILY CORPORATION. OWNER JOE QUIRK SAYS HE’S HOPEFUL THAT SOMEONE ELSE WILL BE WILLING TO TAKE ON THE TASK OF SAVING THE THEATER, WHICH DATES BACK TO THE EARLY 1930S.

IN RECENT YEARS THE THEATER SUFFERED A FIRE IN 2005 AND A GENERAL DECLINE IN REVENUE. JOE SAYS HE MADE THE FINAL DECISION AFTER FAILING TO OBTAIN SUPPORT FOR A CONWAY VILLAGE STREETSCAPE PROJECT. IN A RECENT AD HE THANKS THE COMMUNITY FOR TWENTY YEARS OF PATRONAGE AND INVITED PEOPLE TO STOP IN AND SAY HELLO BEFORE THE THEATER CLOSES.
