NEARLY 70 PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6^TH GRADERS AT FREEDOM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

THAT’S WHEN THEIR PRINCIPAL, MISS KAREN SCHROEDER, WILL KISS A 10-MONTH OLD POT BELLY PIG NAMED “CAPTAIN.”

MISS SCHROEDER AGREED TO GIVE THE PIG A KISS IF HER STUDENTS READ A TOTAL OF 650 HOURS. THE KIDS NOT ONLY MET THAT GOAL, THEY EXCEEDED IT.

THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT WAS PART OF THE NATIONAL “READ ACROSS AMERICA” READING CHALLENGE THAT STARTED EARLY IN MARCH, 2013.

THE FREEDOM STUDENTS READ THEIR BOOKS IN 20-MINUTE INCREMENTS.

6-YEAR-OLD FIRST GRADER PATRICK* *CUNIO FINISHED THREE BOOKS.

9-YEAR-OLD 3RD GRADER KYLIE KNOX LIKES FICTION AND NON-FICTION. SHE READ 8 BOOKS

AND 12-YEAR-OLD JASSMYN BAKER – WHO’S FAMILY LIVES WITH “CAPTAIN” THE PIG – READ THREE BOOKS. SHE SAYS SHE LIKES FICTION.

THE PUBLIC PIG-KISSING EVENT STARTS AT 2:30 P.M. THURSDAY AT THE SCHOOL’S GYMNASIUM AT 40 LOON LAKE RD..
