CONWAY POLICE URGE DRIVERS TO LOCK THEIR VEHICLES AND SECURE THEIR VALUABLES AFTER SEVERAL THEFTS WERE REPORTED MONDAY.

LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS THE FIRST REPORT CAME IN SHORTLY AFTER 8:15 A.M. THAT A BIKE RACK HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM A CAR IN NORTH CONWAY VILLAGE – A LITTLE MORE THAN AN HOUR LATER A SECOND REPORT CAME IN SAYING A RACK HAD BEEN STOLEN OFF A PICKUP TRUCK PARKED IN THE SAME AREA.

PERLEY SAYS HE WANTS RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO KNOW THERE’S AN INCREASE IN PETTY THIEVERY DUE TO THE INCREASE IN FOOT TRAFFIC BECAUSE OF THE WARMER WEATHER – HE RECOMMENDS LOCKING YOUR VEHICLE, SECURING ALL YOUR BELONGINGS AND SURVEYING THE AREA.

PERLEY SAYS EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON A WOMAN FROM BERLIN REPORTED HER CAR WAS MISSING AFTER SHE HAD PARKED IT IN FRONT OF A RESTAURANT IN CONWAY VILLAGE AND LEFT THE KEYS IN IT.

THE CAR WAS FOUND LESS THAN 15 MINUTES LATER NEAR A BANK ON WEST MAIN ST. BUT ALL THE ITEMS INSIDE HAD BEEN TAKEN.

PERLEY SAYS THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT YOUR VEHICLE FROM BEING STOLEN IS TO TAKE THE KEYS AND LOCK IT UP WHEN YOU LEAVE. HE SAYS IT’S ACTUALLY AGAINST THE LAW IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO LEAVE YOUR CAR PARKED UNLOCKED WITH THE KEYS STILL IN IT – AND LOCKING YOUR VEHICLE AND TAKING YOUR KEYS GREATLY REDUCES THE RISK OF A BREAK-IN.

PERLEY ASKS EVERYONE TO BE VIGILANT FOR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AND ALWAYS PROMPTLY REPORT IT TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
