Many People Not Happy With Ben Affleck As Batman
The internet has been going wild over the revelation on Thursday night (August 22nd) that Ben Affleck will be taking over the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel. Though Ben has reinvigorated his career in recent years with hits like Argo and The Town, the response to his casting has been largely negative and even prompted #BetterBatmanThanBen to start trending on Twitter.
While it isn’t uncommon for comic enthusiasts to question the casting in superhero franchises, Fox News is reporting that a petition even popped up on Change.org shortly after the announcement requesting that Warner Bros. “Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne.” Over 30,000 people have supported the cause.
- Much of the anti-Affleck sentiment seems to reference his poorly reviewed 2003 film Daredevil as proof that he is unfit to portray the caped crusader.
- The Avengers director Joss Whedon voiced his support of Ben’s casting by tweeting, “Affleck’ll crush it. He’s got the chops, he’s got the chin. — just needs the material. Affleck and Cavill toe to toe — I’m in”
- The Huffington Post suggests that perhaps playing Batman might not be the best choice for Ben considering his recent critical success.
