KATIE HOLMES IS NOT DATING JAMIE FOXX: Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx had many people questioning the nature of their relationship after they were spotted in the Hamptons last weekend holding hands and dancing together but sources insist things between them are strictly platonic. One source said, “They are not dating, they were just having a good time together. They’ve been friends for a long, long time.” The NY Post is reporting that Kate was overheard commenting that it had been a while since she had such a good time.
VALERIE HARPER’S CANCER IS CLOSE TO REMISSION: Rhoda star Valerie Harper revealed on the Today show on Thursday (August 29th) that she may have bought herself some more time after being diagnosed with brain cancer and given three to six months left to live back in January. Harper’s doctor revealed, “I’d say that we’re getting pretty close to a remission. It defies the odds. The problem is that at any time this can change.” The doctor explained that the cancer can “develop resistance to the therapy” and it’s “not a matter of if…it’s a matter of when.” Valerie is rumored to be part of the cast on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars.
AMANDA BYNES MAY BE IN THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR: Sources are telling Radar Online that Amanda Bynes’ time in the UCLA psychiatric hospital could go until the end of 2013 to make sure that doctors can figure out the best way to treat her and keep her level-headed. An insider explained, “Doctors have been observing Amanda, and there has been some improvement…however, her diagnosis is complex, and the appropriate drug cocktail to treat her hasn’t been achieved yet. Therefore, her treatment team believes Amanda would benefit from prolonged treatment at UCLA, for at least the rest of the year. She has her good days and bad days, and the goal is obviously to get her therapeutic and stable before being released. Lynn needs to be granted permanent conservatorship because Amanda wouldn’t agree to continue with treatment.”
ARIEL WINTER GETS HER DRIVER’S PERMIT: 15-year-old Modern Family star Ariel Winter has earned her driving learner’s permit in California. MATT DAMON TO MAKE HIS DIRECTORIAL DEBUT: Matt Damon is teaming up with Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio to make his directorial debut for the film A Foreigner — based on an article from the New Yorker. Damon was previously attached to direct and star in last year’s Promised Land but ultimately had to give up the directing duty because of his production schedule for Elysium. Gus Van Sant took his place as director.

WARNER BROS SPENDS BIG BUCKS FOR ‘THE WIZARD OF OZ’ 75TH ANNIVERSARY: Warner Bros has committed $25 million for a huge advertising campaign to celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. Beginning on September 20th, McDonald’s will be offering The Wizard of Oz toys in Happy Meals at 14,000 locations in North America. The studio is also partnering with QVC and Food Network’s Cupcake Wars for other Oz-themed promotions.
