A NEW OVERLOOK OF MOUNT WASHINGTON AND SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS HAS BEEN DEDICATED TO AILING EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR RAY BURTON.

THE DEDICATION CAME FRIDAY AS PRESENT AND PAST POLITICAL LEADERS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, INCLUDING U.S. SENATORS JEANNE SHAHEEN AND KELLY AYOTTE AND FORMER NEW HAMPSHIRE GOV. JOHN LYNCH GATHERED AT BRETTON WOODS TO HONOR BURTON’S 40 YEARS OF SERVICE.

THE 74-YEAR-OLD BURTON RECENTLY ANNOUNCED HIS KIDNEY CANCER HAD RETURNED AND HE WOULD NOT SEEK ANOTHER TERM TO REPRESENT THE FIRST DISTRICT, THAT INCLUDES TOWNS IN THE MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY AND NORTH COUNTRY.

BURTON ARRIVED AT FRIDAY’S CEREMONY IN HIS “PARADE CAR” — A 1975 YELLOW OLDSMOBILE DELTA 88 WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE GOV. MAGGIE HASSAN.

HASSAN SAID BURTON — WHO IS KNOWN FOR CONSTANTLY WORKING FOR HIS CONSTITUENTS — LOBBIED HER FOR SEVERAL APPOINTMENTS ON THE WAY FROM THE MOUNT WASHINGTON HOTEL TO THE OVERLOOK.

BURTON WAS ELECTED TO HIS FIRST TERM IN 1977 AND, ASIDE FROM A TWO-YEAR ABSENCE EARLY ON, HAS SERVED EVER SINCE.
