Week-3 Wrap Up
If you want some weather this season, just wait for Wednesday. We are 3 for 3 for weather events on race day this season and the long range forecast is showing more of the same for next week. This is nothing we will complain about in the shack after “The Winter that Never was” last season, however, a number of racers chose to wait for the precipitation to stop, and it never really did.
Fresh snow is usually a deterrent for our participants, but this week we had over 340 racers. The early line was shorter than previous weeks as our [email protected] option is gaining popularity. 40 racers were in line at 9:00, 40 more were in the line at 2:00, and a third stack of “Hot Jocks” showed up after 4:30, trying to find the Golden Hour with our new format.
For the Women, Maggie Flynn held top honors for most of the day with a 25.72; until 5:00 when Hilary McCloy unseated her with a 24.85. Amber McPherson was third. Ace Tarberry was the fastest racer on the hill again this week, running at 11:00 on the Yellow course, clocking another course record with a blistering 23.77. Trevor Tasker snuck in at 4:45 on the Blue course with a time of 24.44. Hunter Haynes finished 3rd with a 24.47 grabbing his third top three of the season.
Haynes was sent back out to post run both courses at 3:30 to see if there was a difference, and we can say that the two courses were within 0.09 seconds of each other. However, Hunter was 0.40 seconds faster at the end of the day, than he was in the morning, so, for those hot jocks trying to win it all, the Golden Hour may be later than you thought.
Over 20 racers spent some time in the World Cup Wednesday Meister Clinic with Eddie Bradley, training slalom on the Comp Slope. Some were getting ready for next week’s Gibson Cup Race; others were looking to improve their skiing.
For upcoming events, This Sunday (1/22) we will be hosting our Sunday Meister Clinic from 12:30-3:30 with gates on “The Alley” and Video Analysis afterwards in Zip’s; the L.L. Bean Bootmobile will also be at Cranmore from 10:00-2:00 with giveaways, games and coupons this Sunday. For those Meisters looking for extra racing, the Race to Beat Cancer (Hope on the Slopes) is coming up in 4 weeks on Sunday February 12; so get your teams together and start your fundraising now.
None of your Meister fun would be possible without the support of our Racers, Sponsors and Partners such as Crest Autoworld, Frase Electric, Joe Jones Sun & Ski and Memorial Hospital.
