Boston Marathon Recap

The 118th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday (April 21st), one year after the twin bombing attack at the finish line that killed three people and injured more than 260 others, was won by Meb Keflizighi, the first American man to win the MebKstoried marathon since 1983. Keflizighi, who finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 37 seconds, had the names of last year’s victims written in black marker on the corners of his race bib. The winning woman was Kenya’s Rita Jeptoo, who finished in a course-record 2 hours, 18 minutes, 57 seconds, successfully defending her championship from last year. A total of 35,755 athletes registered to run, the second-highest number in the race’s history, with many coming to show support for Boston and its marathon after last year’s attacks. At 2:49 p.m., the exact moment when the bombs went off a year ago, there was a moment of silence, followed by a big cheer for runners headed toward the finish line.
