WARNER BROS ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL TITLE OF ‘MAN OF STEEL’ SEQUEL: Warner Bros has announced that the official title of the follow-up to Man of Steel will be Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film kicked off principle photography in Detroit on Wednesday (May 21st.) The production will also film in Illinois, Africa, and the South Pacific. It is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016.
JULIANNA MARGULIES ALMOST LOST OUT ON ‘GOOD WIFE’ ROLE: Julianna Margulies revealed during a recent Hollywood Reporter roundtable interview that she wasn’t the first choice for The Good Wife. She said, “When The Good Wife came to me, it came in such a backhanded compliment. ‘Ashley Judd was offered this script, but she’s turning it down. Now, I’m going to give it to you, but first, we’re going to Helen Hunt. And if Helen Hunt passes, it’s all yours.'” Margulies, who won an Emmy for the role as Alicia Florrick, went on to say, “I wanted to hate it, because you know, ‘F**k you! You didn’t want me to begin with.’ The writers always say: ‘No, we always wanted you. It’s just the studio wanted Helen Hunt!’ But my agent said a great thing: ‘No one will know when they watch this show that Helen Hunt was offered it before you.’
‘I WANNA MARRY HARRY’ SCORES LOW RATINGS: Despite getting a lot of hype for its outlandish premise, Fox’s latest reality show I Wanna Marry “Harry” did not manage to score many viewers when it premiered on Tuesday night (May 20th.) According to E! News, only 2.1 million people tuned into the first episode of the Joe Millionaire-esque dating show. The series was the lowest rated original program of the night.
BILL HADER LANDS HBO SERIES: Bill Hader has inked a new deal with HBO to create and star in a new comedy series for the network. In addition to being a cast member on Saturday Night Live for eight seasons, Bill has written for SNL and for South Park. The comedian is also currently working on a new Judd Apatow film called Trainwreck.
GIULIANA RANCIC EXTENDS DEAL WITH E!: Giuliana Rancic is sticking with E!. The Fashion Police co-host and reality star has inked a new deal to extend her contract with the network for an additional two years through April 2016. The network said in a statement, “Giuliana has been an important part of the E! family for twelve years now and we are thrilled to extend her overall deal with the network. Giuliana brings not only a wealth of experience to the air, but also a fun, relatable and candid energy that makes her a fan favorite amongst E! viewers and incredibly popular across the entertainment community.” Both Ryan Seacrest and Chelsea Handler’s contracts are also set to expire and Handler has already decided that she plans to depart at the end of the year.
DREW BARRYMORE SHOWS OFF NEWBORN DAUGHTER: Drew Barrymore appears on the cover of the new issue of People magazine showing off her newborn daughter Frankie. The mother and daughter are joined by Drew’s husband Will Kopelman and their older daughter, 20-month-old Olive. The former child actress tells the magazine, “Olive loves Frankie and just wants to hang out with her all the time. She wants to feed her. She’s super into it. That’s now. I’m sure things will ebb and flow.” Frankie was born on April 22nd.
MIKE MYERS BACKS KANYE WEST FOR ANTI-BUSH STATEMENT IN HURRICANE KATRINA TELETHON: Mike Myers supported Kanye West’s decision to call out President Bush for his response to victims of Hurricane Katrina during a 2005 telethon where they appeared side by side. The comedian reflects on the controversial moment in the June issue of GQ saying, “But for me, it isn’t about the look of embarrassment on my face, it is truly about the injustice that was happening in New Orleans. To have the emphasis on the look on my face versus the fact that somebody spoke truth to power at a time when somebody needed to speak? I’m, like, super proud to have been next to him.” Kanye has since admitted that he may have chosen the wrong words in a moment of frustration when he declared, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
MICHAEL LOHAN BEING SUED OVER FAKE BUSINESS DEALS: A man named Jason Squatriglia is suing Michael Lohan for $550,000 after Michael allegedly scammed him into forking over money for two fake business ventures. Jason has filed court documents accusing Lohan of using Lindsay Lohan’s celebrity status to convince him to invest in a new cleaning product and a reality TV show called Racing With the Stars. According to TMZ, Jason only handed over $50,000 but is asking for his money back plus $500,000 in damages. Michael has responded that he never promised that his daughter would be involved in any of the businesses.
ASHTON KUTCHER TAKES MILA KUNIS SHOPPING FOR BABY STUFF: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were spotted out in Sherman Oaks last weekend shopping for things for their new baby who is set to arrive in the fall. According to People, the engaged couple hit up Juvenile Shop where a source said, “They shopped for nursery furniture, including a wooden crib and changing table. They seemed to know what they wanted and didn’t ask for any help.” Another insider revealed to the magazine, “Mila seems very low-key when it comes to buying things for the baby. She doesn’t want a cluttered nursery with unnecessary items.”
JESSICA ALBA CONSIDERS HERSELF A PRUDE: Jessica Alba has been a sex symbol since her days as Dark Angel but the Sin City: A Dame To Kill For star reveals in the Entertainment Weekly that she considers herself to be a bit of a prude. She discusses her long-standing sexy status saying, “I didn’t have a lot of experience, so at first it was all kinds of weird. I’m kind of a prude, and I didn’t really understand. They would always ask me provocative questions about my sexuality, my this or that. Sometimes I would lie and say something that wasn’t true to make myself seem more interesting that I was. I mean, I didn’t even know how to walk in heels until I went to the Golden Globes for the first time.” Alba will be reprising her role as the stripper named Nancy Callahan in this summer’s sequel to 2005’s Sin City.
JJ Abrams Star Wars Contest
J.J. Abrams has announced a new charity contest that gives fans a chance to score a cameo in Star Wars: Episode VII in exchange for a donation to UNICEF. A video was uploaded to the Star Wars YouTube channel on Wednesday (May 21st) where the director announced a new program called Star Wars: Force for Change — dedicated to finding creative solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.
According to the official press release, “For each $10 contribution made through the Omaze fundraising platform, eligible participants will be automatically entered for a chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime experience.” J.J. added, “The Star Wars fans are some of the most passionate and committed folks around the globe. We’re thrilled to offer a chance to come behind the scenes as our VIP guests and be in Star Wars: Episode VII. We’re even more excited that by participating in this campaign, Star Wars fans will be helping children around the world through our collaboration with UNICEF Innovation Labs and projects.”
