‘MALEFICENT’ ENDS ‘FROZEN’ RUN IN JAPANESE BOX OFFICE: Angelina Jolie’s live-action Disney film, Maleficent, finally overtook Frozen at the top of the Japanese box office. The animated blockbuster spent four months as the number one movie and raked in over $240 million. Titanic is still the country’s highest grossing movie. Maleficent nabbed $7.1 million in its first weekend and has earned around $630 million so far globally.
‘STAR WARS’ SHOOT TO TAKE HIATUS IN AUGUST: Filming for Star Wars Episode VII will take a two-week break in August. The hiatus is to adjust the production schedule to account for Harrison Ford’s injury and the recent addition of two new cast members — Crystal Clarke and British actor Pip Anderson. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy released a statement saying, “The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII, we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many traveled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film.” Production for the latest installment should be over some time in the fall.
THE CW CANCELS ‘FAMOUS IN 12’: The CW has canceled the reality TV social experiment Famous In 12. TMZ launched the campaign to try and make a California family famous by relocating them to L.A. but the plans have been scrapped after only five episodes. Site founder Harvey Levin let the family know on the air that the show was not earning enough viewers and would not continue. It has not been announced what will fill the void on the schedule.
‘THAT’S SO RAVEN’ ACTOR JOINS ‘GOTHAM’: Dancing With the Stars alum and former Disney star Kyle Massey has landed a role on Fox’s upcoming Batman prequel Gotham. The 22-year-old will play Macky — an abused and neglected kid who lives on the streets. It is considered to be a recurring role.
‘I DIDN’T DO IT’ RENEWED BY DISNEY CHANNEL: Disney Channel has announced plans for a second season of freshman comedy I Didn’t Do It. The show follows a group of teens in the midst of a wild occurrence — something so absurd that it has them trying to explain away the craziness. Through flashbacks they recount the various and sometimes random moments leading up to their predicament. It has been tied as the network’s highest rated show since debuting in January.
ROB KARDASHIAN POSTS TWEET ABOUT FAKE SON: Rob Kardashian caused a stir on social media on Thursday (June 3rd) when he tweeted a joke message about having a son. He wrote, “Happy I got my son with me for the 4th tomorrow!! Can’t wait to watch fireworks with my little man! Hope everyone is safe!” The reality star quickly revealed the whole thing to be a joke after getting a lot of messages believing it to be true. Rob added, “Those who know me know I play and I do NOT have a son. Y’all got my mama emailing me asking if I have a son lol goodness hahaha. GOODnight.”
NEIL PATRICK HARRIS SELLS HIS HOME IN L.A.: Neil Patrick Harris’ next big paycheck is coming from the sale of his former home in Sherman Oaks, California. The Tony award winner put the mansion on sale a little over a week ago which reportedly sparked a bidding war for the 4,000 square foot home. Neil purchased the property back in 2010 for $2.1 million and supposedly scored nearly $3 million above the asking price.
NICOLAS CAGE BECOMES A GRANDFATHER: Nicolas Cage is a grandfather. His son, Weston Cage, welcomed a son with wife Danielle on July 1st. A rep for the couple released a statement saying, “Lucian Augustus Coppola Cage was born on July 1, 2014 at 3:14 p.m.” Danielle previously discussed the name choice with Us Weekly saying, “Lucian is of Romanian descent, which is what I am. And Augustus is taken from Weston’s grandfather.”
PAUL RUDD HELPS COUPLE ANNOUNCE PREGNANCY: A photo went viral on Reddit late last week of Paul Rudd posing with a couple holding a sign announcing her pregnancy. The picture was initially found on Imgur and show’s that Knocked Up actor grinning with a piece of paper which read, “She’s Knocked Up!” along with an arrow pointing at the girl while her man cradles her stomach. The original post was eventually deleted for unknown reasons.
KATE UPTON IS SICK OF TABLOID RUMORS: Kate Upton achieved a whole new level of fame with her role in The Other Woman but some aspects of the celebrity lifestyle have not been pleasant for the supermodel. She explained to British Vogue, “Reading things about myself that aren’t true drives me crazy! I’ve managed to block it out, but my family really hasn’t. So they’ll read about me and then call me up saying, ‘Are you alright? I saw this happened’ and my mom will call and say: ‘Well, I saw you went to Vegas, when you could have come to the family reunion.’ And I’m like, ‘Mom, I swear, I’m in Europe!’ It’s insane!”
