‘JON & KATE PLUS 8′ RATINGS PLUMMET: Ratings for Jon & Kate Plus 8 plummeted 77 percent last Monday (June 29th) from the prior week’s audience of 10.6 million viewers. Only 2.4 million tuned in for this week’s episode, which was mostly old clips from the family’s happier times. It was announced that the show is now on hiatus until August 3rd as the network gives the family “some time to regroup,” following their separation announcement.

BILLY MAYS’ FUNERAL SET FOR FRIDAY: Billy Mays’ funeral will reportedly be held this Friday (July 3rd). Star magazine reports that services are scheduled to take place in the Pitchman’s hometown of McKees Rock, Pennsylvania. After it was reported on Monday (June 29th), that it was likely heart disease that killed Mays, his wife Deborah said, “While it provides some closure to learn that heart disease took Billy from us, it certainly doesn’t ease the enormous void that his death has created in our lives. As you can imagine, we are all devastated.”

MELISSA RYCROFT IS ENGAGED: Melissa Rycroft is engaged again. SIMON COWELL OFFERED HUGE ‘IDOL’ SALARY? Simon Cowell has reportedly been offered more than $100 million to return to American Idol after his contract expires next May. London’s The Guardian reports that the projected salary would be three or four times the $36 million Cowell earned for judging the hit show last season. Although the salary — which could reportedly reach $144 million — seems absurd, the Guardian points out that it’s only a slice of the estimated $900 million that Idol makes each year.

DREA DE MATTEO JOINS ‘DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES’: Former Sopranos star Drea de Matteo is joining Desperate Housewives. People magazine confirmed that the Emmy-winner will play the matriarch of an Italian family who recently moved to the neighborhood. Entertainment Weekly reports that de Matteo was likely cast to help the ABC show regain its edge in the wake of Nicolette Sheridan’s departure.

SUSAN BOYLE NOT APPEARING ON ‘UGLY BETTY’ DESPITE RUMORS: Susan Boyle’s rep is denying reports that the singer will appear on the next season of Ugly Betty. London’s The Sun reported that producers behind the ABC hit contacted Boyle about a month ago, but a network rep told Usmagazine.com that there were no plans for a cameo. AMY ADAMS TO STAR WITH MARK WAHLBERG: Amy Adams is reportedly in final negotiations to star alongside Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming drama, The Fighter. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Adams would play a “tough bartender and former college high-jumper” who dates Mickey, played by Wahlberg. The film revolves around Mickey and his trainer — to be portrayed by Bale — through the course of Mickey’s career.

JUDE LAW GOING TO BROADWAY: Jude Law will be headlining Hamlet on Broadway beginning this fall. Variety announced that the London production is heading stateside in September. Broadway will feature a wide variety of bold names later this year, with Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles in Oleanna, James Spader in Race and Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig in A Steady Rain. Hamlet marks Law’s first return to Broadway since 1995’s Indiscretions.

A large-scale memorial service has been planned for Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch outside Santa Barbara, California on Friday (July 3rd). The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that it is arranging for security around the singer’s famed estate/amusement park, where Jackson’s body will lie in state for a public viewing. The body was expected to be transported from Los Angeles on Thursday.
