LAUREN BACALL GETS AN OSCAR: At age 85, smoky-voiced film legend Lauren Bacall brought down the house when she took the stage to accept an honorary life-time achievement Oscar at the Academy of Motion Pictures Governors Awards on Saturday night. Bacall accepted her gold statuette with a whoop of delight, saying: “I can’t believe it–a man at last!” Bacall starred in more than 30 films, but had never won an Oscar. Bacall’s career was launched in 1944, when she starred opposite Humphrey Bogart in the now-classic To Have and Have Not. On screen and off, Bogie and Bacall were among Hollywood’s greatest couples until his death in 1957.
KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN SHOWERED WITH GIFTS: About 80 guests joined Kourtney Kardashian’s sisters and mom Kris Kardashian at a baby shower over the weekend at the family’s home in Hidden Hills, California, PEOPLE.com reports. The first-time mom-to-be and boyfriend Scott Disick are expecting the baby in December. All the sisters–Kim, Khloe, Kylie and Kendall Kardashian–were there for the party. Guests included Kim’s BFF, jewelry designer Brittny Gastineau and Kris’s good friend, comedian Heather McDonald, a regular on Chelsea Lately. Said sister Kim of Kourtney: “She’s a really cute pregnant girl. It’s just a big belly.”
ROSIE O’DONNELL LOSES GIRLFRIEND, GAINS CHIHUAHUA: Rosie O’Donnell refused to talk about the status of her relationship with partner Kelli Carpenter–until a dog whisperer on her radio show had a chat with a chihuahua who spilled the beans. During an on-air appearance with Rosie and her dog Misty, pet psychic Sonya Fitzpatrick said Misty is much happier with Rosie than in her previous home. Rosie then fessed up that she got the pooch two years ago, just three days after Kelli moved out of the home they had shared. Rosie said she got Misty because “I wanted another child or something to love. And I got the dog.”
KELLY SHARBAUGH DIDN’T SEE THIS COMING: The second member of the Galu tribe to get the axe on the Survivor: Samoa series was flabbergasted at her elimination on week 9. When host Jeff Probst said her name, Kelly Sharbaugh tells PEOPLE magazine: “I was like, ‘What just happened? What did I do?’ I was so emotional because I was so unprepared. I didn’t even wear my favorite boots to tribal because the thought that I could go never crossed my mind.” She’ll never see those boots again, either. First fire ants nested in them, and then presumably the tsunami that struck Samoa washed them away.
LINDSAY LOHAN DOES NOT PAY FOR DRINKS: Apparently no one has told Lindsay Lohan that her off-screen antics have not exactly catapulted her to the top of the Hollywood A-list. According to PEOPLE magazine, Lohan caused a big stink at a Hollywood club when the bartender had the nerve to hand her a bill for the two bottles of expensive champagne she had just downed. An onlooker says she was yelling obscenities at the bartender and everyone else in sight. The onlooker says: “She was crying and wanted to go home. She kept saying ‘I don’t pay for drinks! This is ridiculous! I’m freaking out!’” She finally paid with a credit card borrowed from a friend. A very foolish friend.
STEPHANIE PRATT PLEADS NOT GUILTY: In more tipsy celebrity news, Stephanie Pratt, star of The Hills, will enroll in rehab for 30 days after an appearance in a Los Angeles court last Friday on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. She recently told PEOPLE magazine that the arrest “was the worst thing to happen to me and, at the same time, it was the biggest blessing” as a life lesson. Nevertheless, she pleaded not guilty to the charge. Pratt could have gotten six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
GOSSELIN BODYGUARD SAYS HE’LL SUE: A representative for Jon Gosselin has already denied a report that a bodyguard witnessed the reality show star snorting cocaine and making a sex tape. And now the bodyguard, Thomas Meinelt, reportedly plans to sue The National Enquirer over the story, according to a report in USMagazine.com. Meanwhile, Gosselin is in Hawaii to attend the wedding of Shane Victorino, an outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies.
BRAD AND ANGELINA GO TO THE MUSEUM: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie looked a bit like contemporary works of art themselves when they attended the 30th anniversary gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Both dressed in sleek black designer duds. Angelina wore an Armani gown, and Brad wore a Tom Ford tuxedo. The effect was damaged, however, by the scraggly beard that Brad is now sporting. Also at the star-studded gathering were Gwen Stefani, Christina Ricci, Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, Guy Ritchie, James Franco, and Pierce Brosnan. Lady GaGa performed at the event.
FARRAH FAWCETT NAMED A SECRET LOVER IN HER WILL: The late star of Charlies Angels excluded long-time boyfriend Ryan O’Neal from her will, but left $96,000 to former Texas football star Greg Lott, according to British tabloid The Sunday Express. For reasons that cannot be explained by any rational person, O’Neal and Lott have been engaged in a public dispute over whether Lott is “a disgruntled ex-boyfriend” of Fawcett’s from the 1960s, or the love of Fawcett’s life. Lott apparently released details of the legacy to support his case. Most of Fawcett’s fortune went to Redmond O’Neal, the son she and Ryan had together.
ADD ZSA ZSA GABOR TO MADOFF VICTIM LIST: Ancient celebrity Zsa Zsa Gabor is the latest victim of swindler Bernie Madoff to be named. A lawyer for the actress, who is 92, says that Gabor and her husband are having trouble paying a big tax bill after losing about $7 million in the Ponzi scheme. The IRS has worked out a payment plan for the couple, who owe about $118,000 in back taxes. For those too young to remember her, Zsa Zsa was one of the original gold-digging blonde beauties, and entertained late-night television audiences in the 1960s with tales of her many wealthy ex-husbands.
DANIEL RADCLIFFE DENIES POT REPORTS: Daniel Radcliffe did not smoke marijuana at a party, according to his spokesperson. After the report in the Daily Mirror that the Harry Potter star had been spotted smoking cannabis, his rep issued a statement saying, “We categorically deny the allegations regarding Daniel Radcliffe published in today’s Daily Mirror. Daniel does smoke the occasional roll-up cigarette, but he was not doing anything more than this. We are considering our position and will be taking all necessary action in relation to such allegations.”
KATHY GRIFFIN TO APPEAR ON LAW&ORDER: SVU: Kathy Griffin will make a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU. TV Guide reports that the show’s executive producer, Neal Baer, asked fans on Twitter last week to fill in the spaces in a Hangman-type game to guess the guest-star. After nearly a day’s worth of guesses, he revealed that the D-List star would be appearing on the show later this season.
CAKE BOSS TO REPLACE JON & KATE: Jon and Kate Plus 8′s timeslot on TLC will be occupied by Cake Boss when the scandal-plagued reality show finally goes off the air later this month. The New York Post reports that Cake Boss, which revolves around a New Jersey bakery owner, will air at 9 p.m. ET on Monday nights beginning November 30th.
CHARLIE’S ANGELS REMAKE IN THE WORKS: ABC is reportedly ordered a pilot for a modern version of the classic 1970s television series Charlie’s Angels. Variety reports Josh Friedman, who recently adapted the Terminator franchise for a Fox series, will write and executive produce the new Angels. Shows like 90210 and Melrose Place are currently winning new fans in modern versions, but others including Knightrider and The Bionic Woman were not successful.
JOHN CUSACK IS NO HARRISON FORD: John Cusack, star of 2012, knows he’s not the usual action movie star. Leading men like Harrison Ford usually get those blockbuster roles. “I sneaked in the back door and somehow got this one,” he told CBS in an interview last week. It’s working out for Cusack, though. His movie grossed $65 million over the weekend.
TAYLOR LAUTNER IS SUCH A DOLL: Bella and Edward from the Twilight saga have already been immortalized as Barbie dolls, and now Jacob has been added to the collection. The new doll, modeled after Taylor Lautner’s werewolf character, shows off his muscular bod in denim cut-off shorts. He can be yours for $24.95, but not until February 2010.
TOUGH JOB FOR JIM CAVIEZEL: The new miniseries remake of The Prisoner is the hardest job Jim Caviezel has ever had, next to playing Jesus in the movie The Passion of the Christ. In an interview with The Boston Herald, Cavaziel said: “I’m drawn to find stuff that is going to either fall on its face or blow peoples’ minds.” In the six-part remake of a classic 1960s television drama, he plays Six, a man trapped in a creepy place called The Village. “I would say to a viewer that it’s like George Orwell’s 1984 on steroids,” Cavaziel says.
- British actor Ian McKellen plays Two, the mysterious leader of The Village.
LOU DOBBS ON FOX: Lou Dobbs, the veteran CNN anchor who abruptly resigned on air last week, will be seen tonight (Monday) on Fox News. The network, home of politically conservative views, said Dobbs will be interviewed on The O’Reilly Factor about his resignation and his views on immigration. Those views, often expressed by Dobbs during his news program, are believed to have caused his exit from CNN. Fox insists it has had no discussions with Dobbs about any ongoing role at the network.
