ABC OFFERS ‘GMA’ JOB? ABC has reportedly offered George Stephanopoulos the job of Good Morning America co-anchor. An executive with knowledge of the negotiations told the Associated Press that Stephanopoulos, the network’s political expert, hasn’t yet said whether or not he’ll take it. The position is open as Diane Sawyer is leaving the show to take over as World News anchor.
‘THE HILLS’ RENEWED: The Hills will return for a sixth season. Variety reported that MTV has picked up the drama, even though ratings continued to fall throughout the fifth season. The show’s spin-off, The City, has also been given a renewed slot on the network’s schedule.
JAIME PRESSLY MAKING SITCOM APPEARANCE: Jaime Pressly will guest star on an upcoming episode of Rules of Engagement. People magazine announced that the newlywed actress will play a potential surrogate mother for Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price) on the CBS sitcom. The episode is set to air in the spring.
JOHNNY DEPP TO BE HONORED IN THE BAHAMAS: Johnny Depp will be honored with the prestigious Career Achievement Award at the 2009 Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) in Nassau. Starpulse.com reports that the festival’s patron Sean Connery will hand over the prize to Depp, who owns his own paradise retreat in the Bahamas. The Career Achievement Award, whose previous recipients include Nicolas Cage, Daryl Hannah and Laurence Fishburne, was set up to recognize stars whose body of work has had a profound impact on cinema.
MEREDITH BAXTER WRITING BOOK? Meredith Baxter didn’t just reveal she’s a lesbian during a one-off interview — she’s reportedly writing book about her sexuality. The New York Post reports that Dan Strone of Trident Media Group is shopping her story. Baxter, who is 62-years-old, told Matt Lauer earlier this week that after three failed marriages, she discovered her true sexuality seven years ago.
MATT DAMON PRODUCING HISTORY CHANNEL DOCUMENTARY: The History Channel is airing The People Speak this month, a film which focuses on and celebrates democracy, based on the lives and experiences of ordinary Americans who, through their words and actions, changed the course of history. Matt Damon is an executive producer on the film and said of it, “I am a firm believer in this project, proud to be part of it and proud that we are working jointly with History. The message that is so critical to disseminate is that change doesn’t come from the top, but rather from the bottom, and that without everyday citizens pushing to make a difference, there would be no America.”
ROMAN POLANSKI HOUSE ARREST TO BEGIN TODAY: Roman Polanski was moved from a Zurich-area jail to an undisclosed location on Thursday (December 3rd) before his transfer to house arrest today. Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli told the Associated Press that the director was taken from the jail for “security reasons and personal protection.” After being placed under house arrest at his luxury chalet today, Polanski must remain on the property and wear an electronic monitoring device while he waits for Switzerland to decide whether to extradite him to the U.S.
‘SCRUBS’ ACTRESS GIVES BIRTH: Scrubs actress Judy Reyes gave birth to a baby girl last week. People magazine confirmed that the 42-year-old and her boyfriend, director George Valencia, welcomed Leila Rey Valencia on November 27th.
ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL DEFENDED BY EX: One of Anthony Michael Hall’s ex-girlfriends is defending the Brat Packer in the wake of allegations that he assaulted his recent girlfriend. Actress Sandy Guerard, who lived with Hall for five years told the New York Post, “He has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. He is absolutely not violent. These allegations would be laughable if it were not such a serious issue. Never in over 10 years has this man ever been violent to me. I will stand by him, along with his family, 100 percent. It saddens me to the core that his bipolar disorder, something that is so private, has now become public.”
‘BIGGER LOSER’ CONTESTANT PREGNANT: Former Biggest Loser contestant Kristin Steede is pregnant. The season seven participant — who at the time of her show’s run was the heaviest woman to compete on the show — announced on her blog Thursday (December 3rd) that she’s expecting her first child with her husband of five years.
Rachel Uchitel’s lawyer cancelled a press conference on Thursday (December 3rd), in which Tiger Woods’ supposed mistress was reportedly going to admit sleeping with the golf star. Sources tell RadarOnline.com that the cancellation occurred amid a “last-minute flurry” of phone calls between her rep and representatives for the golfer — during which Uchitel was reportedly offered upwards of $1 million for her silence.Uchitel adamantly denied a sexual relationship with Tiger in the wake of his accident, but reports have emerged that she retained hundreds of their text exchanges and that he paid for her to fly around the globe to meet him.
