PHARRELL OFFERS ‘GUARANTEED’ INTERNSHIPS TO 2019 GRADUATING CLASS OF HARLEM CHARTER SCHOOL – (07/03/2019)
Pharrell Williams is providing some high school graduates with a special opportunity.
While giving a commencement speech at a graduation ceremony for Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academies I and II, the Grammy Award-winning producer promised internships to all 114 students in the graduating class.
“So let me be clear: every member of the 2019 graduating class is guaranteed an internship waiting for them – you – next summer,” he announced. He added, “The world is watching Harlem, but this Renaissance will be different. And believe it or not, with respect, it’s gonna actually be better. And the reason why is because the new Harlem Renaissance has education at its core.”
Pharrell partnered with the charter schools to create an internship program that can facilitate career inroads and connections for Harlem students.
Every member of the Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academies I and II graduating classes have been accepted into colleges and universities. Their internships, if they choose to participate, will begin in 2020.

HARRY STYLES, ANSEL ELGORT AUDITION TO PORTRAY ELVIS IN NEW BIOPIC: Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller are among five actors who have auditioned for the role of Elvis Presley for a new biopic from director Baz Luhrmann. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Austin Butler have also tested for the role. Tom Hanks will play Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker. The biopic will chronicle Presley’s rise to stardom and his relationship with Parker. Luhrmann is expected to decide who will portray Elvis in the coming weeks.
JAKE GYLLENHAAL, ZENDAYA, TOM HOLLAND VISIT SICK KIDS: The stars of Spider-Man: Far From Home brightened the days of sick children last week, according to the Children’s Hospital L.A. Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal and Zendaya showed up to say “hi” just as the kids were being treated to special advance screening of their film. “We are here about to surprise some of the patients here,” Holland explains in a video while dressed as the web-slinging superhero. “We wanted them to be the first people here on the West Coast to see it. This is going to be really fun.” The trio then spent time one-on-one with patients, signing autographs and snapping pics.
LOUIS TOMLINSON UPSET OVER ‘EUPHORIA’ FAN FIC SCENE: One Direction member Louis Tomlinson isn’t happy about a scene in HBO’s new show Euphoria, whose third episode featured an animated scene depicting a sexual encounter between himself and 1D member Harry Styles, or as fan fiction shippers refer to them, “Larry Stylinson.” Responding to a fan who tweeted that she hoped Louis and Harry had approved the scene, Louis wrote, “I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it.” No word on if he plans to take legal action.
CHANNING TATUM FILES RESTRAINING ORDER: Channing Tatum has filed a restraining order against a woman who broke into one of his Hollywood homes and camped out for 10 days, The Blast reports. She was found by one of Tatum’s assistants, placed under citizen arrest and taken away. She reportedly believed that Tatum invited her to stay, but he denies knowing her, and says she has attempted to contact him before. The protection order, which he was granted, extends to his daughter, assistants, and ex-wife Jenny Dewan. (The Blast)
BTS RELEASES MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW JAPANESE SINGLE ‘LIGHTS’: BTS has released a music video for their new Japanese single “Lights.” The video shows BTS members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook in an empty movie theater. The song’s lyrics have an uplifting message of being a light for someone in the darkness. “Lights” appears on BTS’ new Japanese single album, Lights/Boy with Luv. BTS will release the album and the full “Lights” music video today. The Korean version of “Boy with Luv” features Halsey. The song appears on BTS’ most recent Korean EP, Map of the Soul: Persona, which was released in April. BTS will resume their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour Saturday in Osaka, Japan. The group released their mobile game, BTS World, and an original soundtrack for the game last week.
