Forbes released its list of the top 100 highest-paid entertainers on Wednesday, and 10-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift snagged the top slot. Forbes estimated that the 29-year-old’s pretax income was a staggering $185 million, a 131% increase over Swift’s take last year.

RIHANNA ACCUSED OF CULTURAL APPROPRIATION OVER ‘HARPERS BAZAAR CHINA’ COVER – (07/11/2019)
Rihanna has been called out by the Twitter-verse over her recent Harpers Bazaar China cover. According to The Shade Room, Kim Kardashian was recently criticized for creating a shape wear line by the name, Kimono. Although the name was a play on Kim’s actual name, many took offense, saying that she was appropriating Japanese culture.
Social media appears to have taken a similar stance with Rihanna, comparing the two situations. Many are questioning why Rih is not being held to the same standard in the magazine, where she is dressed in traditional Chinese attire.
One person said, “So Rihanna is the exception when it comes to cultural appropriation??? Confused by you people.”
Another wrote, “As much as I love Rihanna how is this not deemed as cultural appropriation?”

REACTIONS TO LION KING: Critics, reporters and editors tweeted out their first reactions to Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King. The reaction to the film, which stars Beyonce and Donald Glover and was directed by Jon Favreau, was fairly positive across the board, with high marks for visuals and mixed marks for emotional resonance. IGN deputy managing editor of entertainment Laura Prudom said: “Visually, it’s stunning — an unparalleled technical achievement that’s like watching a nature documentary.” She added: “Ultimately #TheLionKing will be a touching introduction to a timeless story for a new generation, but I’d never rewatch it over the original.” Buzzfeed senior film reporter Adam B. Vary also offered a measured note, writing: “#TheLiongKing is a landmark *visual* experience. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I think it’s going to change how we look at movies forever.” He added: “As an *emotional* experience, though … I’ll put it this way: It turns out lions can’t really emote.” The film opens July 18th.
