‘BAD BOYS FOR LIFE’ AND ‘1917’ SURGE PAST $100M – (01/27/2020)
Sony’s Bad Boys for Life, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and Universal–Amblin–New Republic’s Oscar-contender 1917 surged past the $100 million mark at the box office, becoming 2020’s first films to reach that landmark.
Bad Boys snagged $34 million this weekend, for a running haul of $120 million for its second weekend out, and 1917 grabbed $16 million, for a total of $104 million in its fifth week out.
The Robert Downey Jr.-toplined Doolittle, meanwhile, snagged a disappointing $11.3 million in its second week out, for a cume of $43.5 million, and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentleman brought in just $10 million in its opening weekend. The news was worse for The Turning, which earned a rare F from CinemaScore, and managed just $7.3 million at the B.O.
