LIZZO SUED BY SONGWRITERS FOR ‘TRUTH HURTS’: Lizzo is being sued for her smash single, “Truth Hurts.” Brothers Justin Raisen and Jeremiah Raisen, and Justin “Yves” Rothman were originally sued by Lizzo to seek a determination that they did not deserve credit for co-penning the song. They’ve now hit back with a countersuit, claiming their song “Healthy,” written with Lizzo a few months earlier, is similar to “Truth Hurts.” A musicologist reportedly found “strikingly similar lyric and musical elements” in the two songs according to the counter-suit. Both songs begin with the line “I just did a DNA test / turns out I’m a 100% that bitch,” among other alleged similarities. Lizzo’s attorneys previously claimed the Raisens gave written waiver of any right to the song.
BTS AMONG ACTS CANCELING ASIA TOUR DATES OVER CORONAVIRUS: BTS has canceled planned canceled several performances that would have taken place in Seoul, South Korea, due to the coronavirus. The country, which BTS hails from, has been hit hard by the coronavirus with the toll rising on Friday to 2,337 confirmed cases. GOT7, Winner and NCT are among the other K-pop acts who have canceled shows due to the virus. British rapper Stormzy also postponed shows and the Boston Symphony Orchestra has canceled their 2020 tour of Asia. Green Day was originally set to perform in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and other locations but also canceled.
AMAZING RACE STOPS FILMING: Concern over the coronavirus has stopped the Amazing Race in its tracks. Season 33 has yet to be announced, and three episodes have been filmed, but CBS has pulled the plug on production. A spokesperson for CBS told People: “Due to increased concerns and uncertainty regarding the coronavirus around the world, CBS and the producers of The Amazing Race have taken the precautionary measure of temporarily suspending production on the 33rd season of the series. All contestants and production staff are in the process of returning home. At this time, no Racers or anyone on the production team travelling with them have contracted the virus, or shown symptoms, and we are not aware of anyone being exposed to it. Out of an abundance of caution, everyone involved in the show will continue to be monitored when they return home. The health and well-being of the Racers and the production team are our top priorities.”
HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS ASSEMBLING CORONAVIRUS TEAMS: As coronavirus continues to threaten lives and productions around the world, Hollywood is assembling teams to deal with logistical issues. Studios have already cancelled plans for premieres in China such as Disney’s Mulan and James Bond’s No Time To Die.
TOKYO DISNEY RESORT SHUTS DOWN: Tokyo’s Disney Resort will shut its doors from this weekend through at least March 15. The new coronavirus has been found in 48+ countries around the world, with the largest outbreaks in China.
OPRAH TAKES A TUMBLE ON STAGE – (03/02/2020)
During the Los Angeles stop of her 2020 Vision speaker tour, Oprah Winfrey took a tumble on stage. The media mogul was ironically talking about balance and took a tumble on stage. She called out to the audience “wrong shoes” before getting up.
The reaction on social media was mixed, with some showing concern for O and others dragging her.
Oprah took to social media later in the day to address the incident, saying, “Sunday Reading and icing. Thank you all for your kind wishes. Yes I slipped on stage and I’m now a meme. But so grateful to be only a little sore. Turning the day into what @michelleobama calls #selfcareSunday.”
HILARY DUFF ASKS DISNEY TO MOVE ‘LIZZE MCGUIRE’ REVIVAL TO HULU – (03/02/2020)
Hilary Duff took the unusual step of posting a formal statement on social media requesting Disney to move the much-anticipated Lizzie McGuire revival she is starring in from Disney Plus to Hulu.
On Instagram, she wrote: “I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating. It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”
Duff’s bid to switch platforms come after Variety reported that behind-the-scenes issues that ultimately resulted in creator and revival showrunner Terri Minsky’s ouster. Duff and Minsky reportedly want to do a more adult revival, while Disney wanted a kid-and-family-friendly show.
While Disney initially agreed to Duff and Minsky’s version, they ultimately wanted to move in a different direction after two episodes were already in the can. She first spoke out on Instagram Stories Tuesday when news broke that Disney Plus’ Love, Simon series was moved to Hulu and retitled Love, Victor, after it was deemed not “family-friendly” enough for the Disney-branded outlet.
She circled the phrase “family-friendly” in the headline and wrote “Sounds familiar.”
Another show that moved from Disney Plus to Hulu was High Fidelity starring Zoe Kravitz.
