BTS IS TIME’S ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR – (12/11/2020)
BTS is Time’s 2020 Entertainer of the Year.
Rapper RM told the magazine, “We’re not sure if we’ve actually earned respect. But one thing for sure is that [people] feel like, OK, this is not just some kind of a syndrome, a phenomenon….These little boys from Korea are doing this.”
And they certainly have done a lot in 2020. They broke Billboard records by becoming the first band in history to debut a song and an album at No.1, put on the biggest virtual ticketed show of all time, formed a fan ARMY, raised a million dollars for Black Lives Matter and nabbed their first Grammy nomination.
On Thursday night, (December 10th) the septet performed their hit song “Dynamite” on NBC’s Person of the Year broadcast special.

ELLEN DEGENERES TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID – (12/11/2020)
Ellen DeGeneres has tested positive for COVID-19, but is “feeling fine right now,” she announced Thursday. Production on her show has been suspended until January.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show host, 62, noted that “anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified and I am following all proper CDC guidelines.”
“I’ll see you all again after the holidays,” she added. “Please stay healthy and safe.”
In October, her show became one of the first to welcome a limited number of in-studio audience members. Beginning October 28th 440 fans were allowed to attend tapings in person, with capacity for 300.
Her show, meanwhile, is reportedly struggling following reports of a toxic work environment. Sources told BuzzFeed news that advertisers and sponsors are shying away from the show, and that producers are struggling to get A-listers.
“In a typical year, ‘12 Days of Giveaways’ is huge. We’ve basically claimed Christmas on daytime TV. When you think of Christmas on TV, you think of The Ellen Show,” a current employee told BuzzFeed. “Everyone wants to be in the audience. Everyone wants the gifts. And so we line up all these crazy sponsors, and people love it. But this year, our ‘12 Days’ is more condensed. We don’t have as many sponsors.”
Celebs that have signed on have been largely virtual, though recent in-studio guests have included Leslie Odom, Jr. on Dec. 9, Bryan Cranston on Dec. 4, Diane Keaton on Dec. 3, Lil Nas X on Dec. 2, and Justin Bieber on Dec. 1.

GRAMMYS EXEC APOLOGIZES TO TIFFANY HADDISH – (12/11/2020)
The Recording Academy has apologized after Tiffany Haddish slammed the Grammys for asking her to host, but refusing to pay for her time, makeup or wardrobe.
Haddish, who was nominated for best comedy album, spoke out to Variety, saying she’d turned down the offer to host the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony.
All of that would have to come out of my pocket,” she told Variety. “I don’t know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it’s disrespectful.”
“I was like, ‘The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking. And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not OK.” Haddish added.
Harvey Mason Jr., the interim president and CEO of the Recording Academy, posted a statement apologizing, saying that the offer was made by a talent booker without his knowledge.
“To me, that was wrong,” Mason said. “I’m frustrated by that decision. It was a lapse in judgement, it was in poor taste and it was disrespectful to the creative community. I’m part of the creative community. I know what that feels like, and it’s not right.”
Mason said he reached out to Haddish himself. “I apologized to her personally and I apologized to her from the academy, I expressed to her my regret and my displeasure about how this went down and about how this was handled,” Mason said. “Again, I want to say Tiffany, we are sorry and thank you for allowing me to speak on it.”
