Box Office Recap – 08/06/2018
TOM CRUISE’S ‘MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — FALLOUT’ TOPS B.O. AGAIN – (08/06/2018)
Paramount/Viacom’s sixth iteration of the Mission: Impossible franchise topped the box office for the second weekend in a row. The Tom Cruise-toplined Fallout raked in $35 million, including $14.5 million in IMAX receipts alone.
That’s a 42.8% drop from its $61.236m debut weekend, the lowest drop of the franchise save Ghost Protocol. Ten days in, Fallout has earned $124.49 million domestically. The Christopher McQuarrie-helmed film has brought in $325 million worldwide.
Disney’s live-action Winnie the Pooh revival Christopher Robin opened lower-than-expected with $25 million. The Ewan McGregor-topliner is one of the few Disney’s ever to open at less than No. 1, though the studio did celebrate one big win this weekend. Black Panther, as of Sunday, became one of just three films to cross the $700 million domestically.
The Spy Who Dumped Me, starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, opened in third place with $12 million.
According to ComScore, overall box office is up 8 percent year-to-date.
