Robert Pattinson will star as Batman in the next trilogy of films directed by Planet of the Apes-director Matt Reeves, according to reports. Warner Bros. bowed to Reeves’ preference after reportedly also wanting to see Nicholas Hoult in the role of the iconic superhero.

The studio reportedly met with Hoult and Pattison Thursday, and pulled the trigger on Pattinson, who rose to superstardom in Twilight Saga. He can be seen in the Rober Eggers-helmed The Lighthouse.

As with all Batman-related decisions that come down the pike, Twitter’s reaction was mixed, with several users posting tragic “NOOOOO!” tweets, but others saying Pattinson seemed like a “great” choice.

Ace Showbiz claims a change.org petition has been started to block Warner Brothers from casting Robert Pattinson as the next Batman. The petition reads; “Don’t make the Batffleck mistake again. Don’t do it. For the love of all that is holy, stop trashing the DC Universe. To cast Robert Pattinson or anyone other than Armie Hammer at this point would be a joke.”

Most recently, Ben Affleck played an older version of Batman, and the reception to his take in Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League was not generally favorable.

Pre-production on this trilogy is set to begin this summer.

‘GODZILLA’ DISAPPOINTS WITH $49M – (06/03/2019)

Godzilla: King of the Monsters ruled the domestic box office over the weekend, but just barely. The lackluster lizard flick, starring Millie Bobby Brown, brought in $49 million, against production costs of about $170 million.

However, Paramount’s Rocketman launched what some say will be a leggy summer run with a $25 million bow. The Dexter Fletcher-directed Elton John biopic has garnered positive reviews, an A- Cinemascore and only cost about $41 million to make.

Blumhouse and Universal/Comcast’s Ma, starring Octavia Spencer and Diana Silvers, also had a strong opening with $18.26 million, against a $5 million budget.

Hooray for Hollywood: Here are this past weekend’s box office results.

1. Godzilla: King of the Monsters— $49 million (CINEMA SCOOP … The movie earned $130 million overseas. In 2014, ”Godzilla” opened to $93.2 million, while in 2016 ”Kong: Skull Island” took in $61 million.)

2. Aladdin— $42.3 million

3. Rocketman— $25 million

4. Ma— $18.26 million

5. John Wick: Chapter 3– Parabellum— $11.1 million

6. Avengers: Endgame— $7.8 million

7. Pokemon Detective Pikachu — $6.7 million

‘ALADDIN’ CONJURES UP $112M OPENER – (05/27/2019)

Aladdin zipped into Memorial Day with an opening of $112.7 million over the long weekend, the fifth best Memorial Day weekend debut ever, ahead of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Aladdin is Disney’s second best opener behind Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End ($139.8M). It’s a record for director Guy Ritchie and star Will Smith’s second behind Suicide Squad ($133.6M).

“We’re delighted,” said Cathleen Taff, Disney’s president of theatrical distribution. “Between the fun action-adventure and spectacular music combined with the cast, which is so charming and has such great chemistry together, we’ve hit something that fans are embracing and walking out of wanting to share with others.”

The James Gunn-produced Booksmart and horror Brightburn, meanwhile, tanked, bringing in $6.5 million and $7.5 million respectively for their openers.

John Wick: Chapter 3 came in second at the B.O. with $24.4 million in its second week out, while Avengers: Endgame took third at $16.8 million.
