The 17th Annual Mount Washington Radio/Vaughan Community Services Food Drive is tomorrow, Wednesday, November 14th, and we’re hoping to see you there!

imag0850Now in it’s 17th year, the Mount Washington Radio/Vaughan Community Services Annual Food Drive showcases what living in the Mount Washington Valley is all about – community goodwill and service.  Held at the First Church of Christ in North Conway (just look for the inflatable turkey), this one-day, 12-hour event helps collect food for area food pantries benefiting those in need during the holiday season, as well as throughout the year. Many different pantries in the Greater Mount Washington Valley will see donations from the drive helping those less fortunate in their communities.

How can you get involved? It’s easy! Just swing by the  First Church of Christ (2503 White Mountain Highway) with a non-perishable item anytime from 6am-6pm…you don’t even need to get out of your car! Canned foods, spaghetti sauces, pasta, mac n’ cheese, peanut butter, muffin and cake mixes, crackers…these are just a few ideas and all will be accepted to go to a good cause. Household items are always welcomed too including toilet paper, paper towels and toothpaste. AND DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE FROZEN TURKEYS!

As always, Magic 104 will be live, on location broadcasting the entire day with a ton of help from our hourly sponsors. A very special “Thank You“ to those area businesses (below) for helping us make this event possible again this year!

Today on the Magic Morning Show, Gino was joined via Skype by an up and coming filmmaker and his good friend Edward Payson. Edward is promoting his new documentary called “Our Friend Jon”.

The movie is about a young man named, Jon Hernandez. Jon was an aspiring filmmaker who loved horror movies and wanted to create his own. He even went so far to write his own script, however before Jon could go on to make this film, he became very ill and passed away in 2013.

Jon suffered from Sickle Cell Disease or Sickle Cell Anemia. 300,000 children are born throughout the world each year with this disease, and it can lead to all sorts of health complications, including stroke, and death. 176,000 people died from Sickle Cell Disease in 2013, Jon Hernandez was among them.

Jon was a member of a group out of Southern NH where all the members have a disability, some mental, some physical. Jon considered this group to be his friends and they all loved Jon very much. In honor of Jon’s life and his dream to be a filmmaker… his friends all decided to take Jon’s script and make the movie themselves, despite their own disabilities.

A Hollywood film crew, led by Edward, flew out to NH to catch the whole process on film and he has now created a documentary with the footage they captured.

Gino and Edward discussed the film this morning. Check out the interview below!

The New Hampshire Premiere of this documentary is Friday, November 9th at 6pm in Concord, NH and will be at the SNOB Film Festival.

‘BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY’ ROCKS BOX OFFICE – (11/05/2018)

A biopic about rock n’ roller Freddie Mercury and his band Queen dominated the box office on opening weekend, bringing in about $50M. It was a good haul for the Rami Malek-headliner, which got mixed reviews, especially as it was up against Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

The live-action rendering of the classic tale about a young girl is transported to a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice from the House of Mouse nabbed about $20 million, putting it in second place.

The forecast for Nutcracker isn’t great; the film was reportedly made for $100M+, and the reviews are generally pretty negative. Observers say the strong cast (including Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and Keira Knightley) may carry it.

Nobody’s Fool from Paramount Pictures landed in third place with $14 million.
