HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR’S ESTATE SUES SACHA BARON COHEN, ‘BORAT’ PRODUCERS – (10/16/2020)

The estate of a recently deceased Holocaust survivor has filed a suit to keep her interview with Sacha Baron Cohen private, Page Six reports. The interview with Judith Dim Evans is slated to appear in the upcoming Borat film.

Evans, who died this summer, thought she was taking part in a serious documentary when she sat down for an interview in a Georgia synagogue on January 29th

Per the suit: “Upon learning after giving the interview that the movie was actually a comedy intended to mock the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms. Evans was horrified and upset. Had Ms. Evans been informed about the true nature of the film and purpose for the interview, she would not have agreed to participate in the interview.”

Adam Hoipkemier, the attorney representing Evans, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he hadn’t seen the film but knew that Evans will be included in the final cut of Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. It’s set to drop on October 23rd on Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime and Oak Springs Productions are named in the suit, which seeks to remove Evans from the film. They are also seeking damages of less than $75K.

Cohen is no stranger to controversy; the comedian joined social media this past weekend seemingly just to zing President Donald Trump. “Premiere Trump true leader – he have prove himself stronger than more than 200,000 of his American subjects!” read one Borat tweet.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards were hosted by Kelly Clarkson Wednesday night, live from the Dolby Theater in L.A., and aired on NBC. Because this is 2020 and we’re in the midst of a rampaging pandemic, the festivities were a little different this year, with no red carpet or audience.

This marked Clarkson’s third go-round as host, and she got the party started with Pentatonix and Sheila E, with the trio taking on a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love.” Houston, who died in 2012, was up for top dance/electronic song for “Higher Love,” a platinum-selling collab with Kygo.

Going in, Post Malone had a whopping 16 nominations, including top artist, top male artist, top rap artist and top streaming songs artist. His 2019 album Hollywood’s Bleeding was up for top Billboard 200 album. On his heels is Kanye West, who was up for nine prizes, including top gospel artist and top Christian artist.

Ultimately, Post Malone was triumphant, nabbing Top Artist and Top Male Artist, plus seven others, for a total haul of nine. Billie Eilish also won big, snagging Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album.

Some nominations felt dated because the show was supposed to go live in April, but was bumped due to the pandemic.

HIGHLIGHTS & PERFORMANCES

Clarkson kept the energy up, dubbing herself her own “hype crew” sans audience or pretty much anyone except essential crew and the performers who were actually on-hand.

Alicia Keys delivered “Love Looks Better” onstage in gorgeous sequin catsuit.

Kane Brown, Swae Lee and Khalid cranked out “Be Like That.”=

Luke Combs crooned “Better Together” onstage.

John Legend performed a memorable and heart-wrenching “Never Break” from Bigger Love, dedicating it to his wife Chrissy Teigen. The pair lost their third pregnancy recently, and shared their heartbreak on social media.

Keisha Lance Bottoms, the mayor of Atlanta, presented rapper and social activist Killer Mike with the inaugural Billboard Change Maker Award, and called for courage and change in the face of systemic racism.

Bad Bunny roller-skated around the stage to “Yo Perreo Sola.”

Noted icon Cher presented this year’s Icon Award to Garth Brooks.

Brooks delivered a medley of hits spanning his 30+ years career.

GAL GADOT ON THAT ‘IMAGINE’ VIDEO – (10/14/2020)

Gal Gadot sat down with Vanity Fair for an in-depth cover interview that touched on the unfortunate reception to her “Imagine” video.

Seven months after Gadot released that infamous “Imagine” video on Instagram, she said, with a “smile and shrug” via VF: “Sometimes, you know, you try and do a good deed and it’s just not the right good deed. I had nothing but good intentions and it came from the best place, and I just wanted to send light and love to the world.”

As the lockdowns increased in the U.S., Gadot, along with Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, James Marsden and several others joined her and sang—many thought awkwardly—John Lennon’s iconic 1971 hit in its entirety.

“We are in this together, we will get through it together,” she wrote in the caption at the time. “Let’s imagine together. Sing with us All love to you, from me and my dear friends.”

TWITTER REACTS TO ‘FURIOSA’ CASTING – (10/14/2020)

George Miller has recruited Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to star in Furiosa. The film is a prequel based on Charlize Theron’s character from 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

The 24-year-old Taylor-Joy is taking on the iconic version; Miller told The New York Times in May that he was looking for an actress in her 20s after deciding against using de-aging tech to allow the 44-year-old Theron to reprise her role.

Twitter was split. Many were thrilled with Taylor-Joy as the titular characters, others were concerned she couldn’t pull off a Theron-worthy performance. Wrote one critic: “I love Anya and Yahya Abdul so I will be definitely watching this but with low expectation due to the lack of Charlize, she really made Mad Max Fury Road even though the rest of the actors were good too it wouldn’t have worked without her.”

Others thought she could do it. Wrote one booster: “Okay I’m still skeptical we need a Furiosa prequel but Anya Taylor-Joy as young Furiosa is… very good”.

DID NATALIE PORTMAN DROP MAJOR MARVEL PLOT DEETS? – (10/09/2020)

Stars of superhero films are as famous for being tight-lipped about plot points as they are for their brave stunts. But Natalie Portman must not have gotten the secrecy memo, because she spilled some major tea about Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

Portman stars in the Marvel film as Dr. Jane Foster, a reprisal of her role in the first two Thor films, where Chris Hemsworth took the lead. Now it’s her turn to weild a magical hammer.

Until her interview with Fatherly, it was unclear how that transition from human scientist to Norse goddess would take place. But in the interview, she confided that Jane is “going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side.”

In the comic, Jane discovers she has cancer after her husband and child die in a car accident.

In February, when asked by Variety if Jane would have cancer, Waititi said: “We don’t know. That comics run was a big inspiration, and was an influence on the first few drafts. But at Marvel, we always change everything.”

He added, “I could say one thing right now, and in two years, it will be the complete opposite—or that thing won’t exist. We continue writing even in post-production.”

The D.A. also alleges Tory inflicted great bodily injury. If convicted, the rapper/singer faces up to 22 years and 8 months in prison.

Back in July, after the incident, Tory was arrested but only charged with possession of a firearm.

Reports say that Tory will more than likely say that it was an accidental shooting.
