JOE JONAS & SOPHIE TURNER WELCOME DAUGHTER WILLA – (07/28/2020)

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas welcomed their first child – a baby girl named Willa – last week.

The 24-year-old actress starred as Sansa Stark for all 8 seasons of the HBO drama Game of Thrones and was a fan favorite on the show.

Willa is the name of two very minor Game of Thrones characters. One of the characters named Willa appeared on two episodes of the show back in Season 5 and was a wildling character. The second appearance of Willa in the series is in Season 8 as a servant at Winterfell.

Turner and Jonas first wed in an intimate, secret ceremony in May 2019, immediately after the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. The pair exchanged candy Ring Pop wedding bands. In a larger ceremony almost two months later, the husband and wife said “I do” again in France.

ELON MUSK SAYS HE URGED KANYE WEST TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020 – (07/28/2020)

Elon Musk has revealed that he urged Kanye West to run for president in 2024. He told The New York Times, “I’ve done my best to convince him that 2024 would be better than 2020.” However, after Kanye went on a Twitter rant last week, inciting the trend,  #prayforye, Musk said that he reached out to the music and fashion icon. 

He said, “When he was about a third of the way through the tweet rampage, just to see if he was doing okay, I sent him a text saying, ‘You know, just checking on you, a lot of people are worried, just wondering if you’re okay.’” 

He continued, “And he called me back and he actually seemed fine.  He FaceTimed me and he was in Wyoming with a bunch of friends.  He seemed fine on the call.  But it sounds like things are, you know, not fine.  There seem to be a lot of issues.”

Meanwhile, according to TMZ, the rep for the Secretary of State in Missouri says that Kanye submitted signatures to get on the ballot before the 5pm deadline yesterday (June 27th). Kanye will need 10,000 signatures from registered voters in the state.

In other news, Kim Kardashian was spotted with Kanye in Cody, Wyoming yesterday (July 27th). 

KIM KARDASHIAN WEST HAS EMOTIONAL VISIT WITH KANYE WEST: Kim Kardashian West reunited with her seemingly troubled husband Kanye West at their ranch in Wyoming. This is the first time the pair have been together since his controversial rally in South Carolina and since-deleted Tweet-storm in which he railed against her and her mother Kris Jenner. A source tells ET, “Kim flew to Wyoming Monday to see Kanye after weeks of trying to get ahold of him and having him agree to see her. The meeting was extremely emotional as the couple has a lot to work through now and most importantly making sure Kanye is healthy. Kim is still very upset with Kanye but she knows she needs to focus on him getting better. Kim plans to do whatever she can to help Kanye get the help he needs.” (ET)

THE CHAINSMOKERS FACE BACKLASH FOR PACKED ‘DRIVE-IN’ CHARITY CONCERT – (07/28/2020)

The Chainsmokers are under fire for performing at a packed charity concert in the Hamptons over the weekend as coronavirus cases continue to surge in the U.S.

The duo, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, performed for thousands of people in Water Mill, New York, during a fundraiser event Saturday that was billed as a “Safe & Sound” gathering that “follows all social distancing guidelines,” according to the event website.

Event organizers sold tickets for 600 vehicles and accompanying guests to enjoy the “tailgate experience” safely from the confines of a designated 20-foot area. “Guests may not leave there (sic)… area for GA unless using a restroom (mask required),” the website added.

However, a video from the group’s manager, Adam Alpert, that has circulated online showed a massive crowd of people gathered in front of the stage within six feet of one another, despite the event claiming to “meet all local health and safety standards, as well as state regulations.”

The group was labeled “straight up irresponsible” by some fans. On Monday, New York Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said he was “greatly disturbed” by the event and announced the New York State Department of Health is opening an investigation.

“I am at a loss as to how the Town of Southampton could have issued a permit for such an event, how they believed it was legal and not an obvious public health threat,” Zucker wrote to Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman in a letter obtained by USA Today. The state of New York has banned gatherings of 50-plus people since it was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak a few months ago.

Ticket packages ranged from $850 to an uber-VIP option for $25,000 that accommodated RVs.

All funds raised from the “drive-in” were donated to No Kid Hungry and Southampton Fresh Air Home and Children’s Medical Fund of New York, the statement added.

Meanwhile, Drew Taggart and model Chantel Jeffries have confirmed their relationship. The two made their first official appearance as a couple at a Hamptons Magazine dinner on Saturday at The Barn at Nova’s Ark in Watermill, New York, just hours before The Chainsmokers’ controversial concert.

Chantel posted a photo of her and Drew kissing on her Instagram account. She simply captioned it with this emoji: “🥺.”

folklore sold over 1.3 million copies around the world within the first 24 hours of its release. The album also broke records on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. folklore created a new record for first day album streams on Spotify by a female artist, with 80.6 million streams. Similarly, the record has also become the most-streamed album on Apple Music in 24 hours, achieving 35.47 million streams in a single day.

folklore also created a new benchmark on Amazon Music, setting an indie/alternative streaming record in the US and worldwide.

After making the surprise announcement Thursday morning, Swift officially released her eighth studio album, along with a music video for her new single “Cardigan.”

Meanwhile, Taylor gifted the late Kobe Bryant’s 17-year-old daughter Natalia Bryant with a cardigan sweater in honor of the release of “Folklore.” The wardrobe staple is a replica of the one Swift wears in the video for “Cardigan.”

The teen told Swift she was “obsessed” with the new album, which Swift has promoted by sending sweaters to the likes of stars like Jonathan Van Ness and Jennifer Hudson.

Embroidered with light gray stars on the elbows and featuring title patches on the front, the piece is for sale along with the digital album on Swift’s personal website for $49.

DOJA CAT REVEALS SHE TESTED POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS: Doja Cat has spoken out about being diagnosed with COVID-19. The rapper says she is feeling better now, but experienced four days of coronavirus symptoms. “I got COVID,” she said on Friday while being interviewed over video with the U.K.’s Capital XTRA. “Honestly, I don’t know how this happens but I guess I ordered something off of Postmates, and I don’t know how I got it but I got it.” “I’m OK now. It was a four-day symptom freak-out but I’m fine now,” she added. The artist, who lives in LA, faced criticism for downplaying the virus during an Instagram Live session in March. “I’m gonna get corona and then I’m gonna get a Corona,” Doja Cat previously said to her Instagram followers. “You just take some Mucinex and drink water and tea and sleep – that’s all you gotta do.”

MEL GIBSON HOSPITALIZED FOR CORONAVIRUS IN APRIL – (07/27/2020)

Mel Gibson landed in the hospital for a week in April after testing positive for COVID-19, his rep tells People. The 64-year-old “ tested positive in April and spent a week in the hospital. He was treated with the drug Remdesivir, while in the hospital, and has tested negative numerous times since then as well as positive for the antibodies.”

He was hospitalized in L.A. He was spotted out at a grocery store in California with his girlfriend Rosalind Ross in March. The pair welcomed their first child together in 2017, which was Gibson’s ninth and Ross’ first. 

Gibson kept his battle private. He became sick just a few weeks after Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson went public with their coronavirus. 

Several other stars have also shared their COVID diagnoses, including Tony Shalhoub, George Stephanopoulos, Lesley Stahl, Pink, Prince Charles, Chris Cuomo, Daniel Dae Kim, Debi Mazar, Andy Cohen, Idris Elba and Harvey Weinstein. Others have died, including Roy Horn and John Prine.

Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse are still going strong while quarantining together in London, People reports. The new couple was first linked in July of 2018. Since then, the pair have bonded during lockdown. 

The insider said: “They are very loved-up. They haven’t been together that long. But everything seems on the fast track. They are always laughing and smiling at each other.”

This is Pattinson’s first relationship since ending his engagement with F.K.A. Twigs in 2017. Waterhouse was previously linked to Darren Aronofsky and Bradley Cooper.

TAYLOR SWIFT TO RELEASE A NEW ALBUM – (07/23/2020)

Taylor Swift has announced the surprise release of her eighth album, Folklore. The Grammy-winning songwriter produced and co-wrote much of the album alongside Aaron Dessner of the National. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon also appears on the record, alongside Taylor Swift’s regular collaborator, Jack Antonoff. It will premiere at midnight EST on 23 July.

Writing on Instagram, Swift said: “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen.” She wrote and recorded the music in isolation, collaborating with “some musical heroes” remotely.

Swift wrote: “Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

Folklore follows Swift’s 2019 album, Lover. She was due to headline Glastonbury 2020 before it was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

SELENA GOMEZ’S RARE BEAUTY MAKEUP LINE TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH – (07/23/2020)

Selena Gomez’s makeup company Rare Beauty launched the Rare Impact Fund on her 28th birthday yesterday, which plans to raise $100 million to provide mental health services to underserved communities.

The goal of the Rare Impact Fund is to raise $100 million over the next 10 years to help provide mental health services for underserved communities. One percent of all sales will go to the fund, in hopes of helping to increase access to mental health resources.

Mental illness impacts one in five adults in the U.S. each year, according to Rare Beauty.

The Fund is also partnering with corporations, other charities and non-profits to help reach its $100 million goal – one of the largest philanthropic efforts in the world to be focused on mental health.

Along with the Fund, Rare Beauty has also set up the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council, made up of expert advisors who will guide Rare Beauty’s strategy.

Gomez founded Rare Beauty in February with the self-affirming mission that “being rare is about being comfortable with yourself.” The title of the makeup line nods to her third studio album Rare she released at the beginning of the year, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 at the end of January.

UKRAINE HOSTAGES RELEASED AFTER PRESIDENT AGREES TO PROMOTE JOAQUIN PHOENIX MOVIE – (07/23/2020)

The news seems to be getting stranger every day. Thirteen hostages in Ukraine have been released unharmed after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy agreed to promote a Joaquin Phoenix film, per the hostage-taker’s demands. 

The kidnapper, identified as 44-year-old Maksym Kryvosh, was armed with guns and a grenade, and he took over a bus. Police held a tense standoff with him for 12 hours.

Kryvosh is an animal rights activist with a criminal record. The film he wanted Zelenskiy to recommend a 2005 documentary Earthlings, which criticizes mankind’s use of animals as pets, food, clothing, entertainment and for scientific research.

Zelenskiy complied, in a six-second clip posted on Facebook. Once the hostages were released, the clip was deleted.

Kim Kardashian West is reportedly working frantically behind the scenes to get her husband Kanye West help. The presidential hopeful claimed that she and her momager Kris Jenner were trying to “lock” him up on Twitter Monday night, and now, sources tell People that the media mogul has been trying to get Kanye help for weeks.” The posts have since been deleted. 

“But what do you do when a person doesn’t want help?” the source asks, pointing out that West has been staying at the family’s compound in Cody, Wyoming. “Kanye is in Cody because he doesn’t want help. If he wanted help, he would come back to L.A.”

Kardashian West has, as the rapper hinted, consulted with doctors. The insider says: “Kim’s family is around to support her as always. And they love Kanye. They want him to be healthy. They are all trying to figure out how to help Kanye. They are in contact with medical professionals for guidance.”

In the now-deleted tweets, West wrote: “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughters life yesterday,” a reference to his comments about daughter North West during his first campaign rally over the weekend.

A source tells People that Kardashian West is “furious” that West brought up possibly aborting North during a campaign rally Sunday. The pair share North, 7, Saint, 4, Chicago, 2 and Psalm, 14 months. 

The pair’s relationship has reportedly “broken down significantly.” West announced his attention to run for president earlier this month, and his family is reportedly concerned for his mental health.

KANYE WEST THANKFUL FOR DAVE CHAPPELLE’S VISIT – (07/22/2020)

On Monday night, July 20th, Kanye West took to Twitter to accuse his wife, Kim Kardashian, of attempting to get him committed and he also took some shots at his mother-in-law Kris Jenner which caused many to worry that he may have been going through a bi-polar episode. On Tuesday, July 21st, comedian Dave Chappelle flew to West’s Jackson Hole, Wyoming ranch to check on the rapper.

  • West shared a video from the visit on Twitter where the two and a group of friends posed for a photo. West tweeted, “Thank you Dave for hopping on a jet to come see me doing well. Dave you are a god send and a true friend. All love.”

DRUGS

“I had four or five of them. I did not realize they were hash brownies. Mr. Naive here,” he quips. “The party was on a Friday night. The drugs knocked me out so much I spent the weekend laid out in their guest bedroom and didn’t leave their home until Monday morning.”

FAMILY VALUES 

Because Jeopardy! filmed two days a week, he had plenty of time with his kids and wife.

“It was always dinner at the same time every night,” Trebek writes. “I don’t think that was an intentional choice. I don’t think I was reacting to the way I was raised and consciously trying to do things differently. To be honest, I followed Jean‘s lead on parenting. She is the calming influence.”

JEOPARDY’S SUCCESS

Trebek believes the show has been on for almost 50 years for reasons of nostalgia and competition. 

“A lot of young kids at home and college students would watch the show on their lunch breaks. They grew up with it,” he writes. “So when we brought it back in 1984, they were nostalgic for it. And then they raised their own kids on the show… There’s something ritualistic about it.”

But also: “That competition exists within families too. Brothers and sisters. Children and parents. And grandparents — we have material that probably only grandparents, people of that generation, may know the correct response to…. There’s information regarding pop culture that the parents and grandparents don’t know. So there’s something for everybody.”

THE FUTURE

He also reveals how his family reacted when he said that we wouldn’t continue treatment for his stage 4 pancreatic cancer if the current round fails. 

“I sat down with [Emily], Matt and Jeanie, and told them I had made my decision,” he writes. “I’m going to stick with this current protocol, then that’s it. If it doesn’t work I’ll probably stop treatment. It wasn’t an easy conversation, and it isn’t any easier writing these words. Quality of life was an important consideration.”

He continues: “I’m not afraid of dying. One thing they’re not going to say at my funeral as part of the eulogy is, ‘He was taken from us too soon.’ I’m about to turn 80. I’ve lived a good, full life, and I’m nearing the end of it. I know that. The only thing that might bother me is if I pass on before I get to have grandchildren. (Hint, hint.)”

As for how he’d like to be thought of after his death, Trebek writes, “I’d like to be remembered first of all as a good and loving husband and father, and also as a decent man who did his best to help people perform at their best.”

DRAKE’S ‘ONLY YOU FREESTYLE’ CAUSES TWITTER TO ERUPT – (07/22/2020)

Recently Drake released a new song, “Only You Freestyle” featuring Headie One. On the song, Drake raps in Arabic and takes some veiled shots at Pusha T and Kanye West. The rapper opens the song with the verse,  “Arabic ting told me that I look like Youssef/Look like Hamza.” Later he actually raps in Arabic and the translation of his verse is “My Love please/I’m certain you and I look better together.”

  • In addition to trying his hand in Arabic, Drake drops a few lines that could be aimed as Pusha T and Kanye West who the rapper has been on the outs with since last year.

GREY’S TO TACKLE COVID: Grey’s Anatomy will tackle COVID-19 in season 17. Exec producer Krista Vernoff told Entertainment Weekly: “We’re going to address this pandemic for sure. There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes.” Shooting has not commenced, but she said that writers are hard at work.

On Monday, July 20th, rapper Nicki Minaj made it official when she announced via Instagram that she is pregnant.  The rapper simply posted a photo of her belly bump with the caption, “#Preggers.”  She then posted a second full body photo with no caption.

  • The announcement ends months of speculation as Minaj’s appearance was causing some to speculate. The rapper announced back in September that she was retiring from music to focus on her family.
  • Minaj married her child friend Kenneth Perry in October and immediately started to refer to herself as Mrs. Petty.
  • Minaj did appear on 6ix9ine’s comeback song, “Trollz,” earlier this year.

Rapper Kanye West’s presidential bid is off to a slow start as the rapper failed to make the ballot in South Carolina.  The rapper hosted a campaign rally on Sunday, July 19th, but it wasn’t enough to generate the 10,000 signatures necessary to make the November ballot.

  • Chris Whitmore, Director of Public Information for the South Carolina State Election Commission, told TMZ.com that West had a hard deadline of noon on Monday, July 20th, to get the 10,000 signatures needed as a petition candidate. According to Whitmore, the deadline came and went without any communication from West’s team.
  • Unfortunately for West, write in candidates are not allowed in South Carolina. His only other chance to get on the ballot would be to earn the nomination of an existing political party which is unlikely.
  • In related news, West was able to submit his paperwork and $35,000 filing fee to make the Oklahoma ballot.

EXHIBITORS & STUDIOS FACE ‘CATASTROPHE’ AMID FURTHER TENTPOLE DELAYS – (07/21/2020)

Global exhibitors and studios are facing financial disaster as movie theaters remained shuttered, and blockbusters face continued delays amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

In mid-June, Europe’s theaters began reopening, and Hollywood hoped that big U.S. movies would be able to prop up flagging sales. But several delays have sunk those plans, and U.S. cinemas, which hoped to reopen this month, are shuttered in California and New York, the nation’s largest markets.  

“It will be a catastrophe if Mulan and Tenet are further delayed. We’ve been sticking to it against [all odds] because we don’t want people to forget about us, but we don’t know how long we can hold up like this,” Jocelyn Bouyssy, managing director of CGR Cinemas, France’s second biggest multiplex chain, told Variety.

Christopher Nolan’s $200 million Tenet was delayed again on Monday due to the pandemic. First, the release was set for July 17th, then July 31st, then August 12th. Now? TBD. 

“Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen,” Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement. “We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world.” Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki. 

“We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that,” Emmerich continued.

He added that The Conjuring 3, set for September 11th, is being pushed to June 4th, 2021.  Wonder Woman 1984remains scheduled for Oct. 2, and Dune appears set for Dec. 18.

Disney’s Mulan is currently set for August 21. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the industry is facing a $20B+ hit from COVID.

KANYE WEST SAYS HARRIET TUBMAN NEVER ‘FREED THE SLAVES’ – (07/20/2020)

Kanye West held his first presidential rally in South Carolina yesterday (July 19th) and he made some remarks about Harriet Tubman that people were shocked about.  According to Rap-Up, during the rally, Kanye said that Tubman didn’t really free slaves. 

He told the crowd, “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves. She just had the slaves go work for other white people.” Some people actually gasped in disbelief and walked out after he made those remarks. 

KANYE SPEAKS ON ABORTION

Meanwhile, Ye got emotional when he started talking about his stance on abortion. He teared up and said, “My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would’ve been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy.” He added, “I almost killed my daughter.”

Kanye continued, “In the Bible it says, ‘Thou shall not kill.’ I remember my girlfriend [now wife, Kim Kardashian] called me screaming and crying … she said, ‘I’m pregnant’ … She said she was a pregnant and for one month, and two months, and three months we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand.”

He said that he and Kim were “in the [Paris] apartment where my wife was actually robbed” when “the screen went black and white and God said, ‘If you f— with my vision, I’m gonna f— with yours. And I called my wife, and she said, ‘We’re gonna have this baby.’ I said, ‘We’re gonna have this child.’”

He added, “Even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world.”

After the rally, people on social media showed some concern for Kanye’s mental health.

NICK CANNON’S DAYTIME TALK SHOW PUSHED BACK TO 2021 – (07/20/2020)

Amid his recent “anti-semitic” remarks,  Nick Cannon‘s daytime talk show that was originally scheduled to premiere in October is now being pushed back to Fall 2021. Shortly after the news was announced on Friday (July 17th), Nick took to Twitter with some alarming tweets, saying, “I hurt an entire community and it pained me to my core, I thought it couldn’t get any worse. Then I watched my own community turn on me and call me a sell-out for apologizing. Goodnight. Enjoy Earth.” He later added, “Y’all can have this planet. I’m out!” 

In other news, on Sunday (July 19th), Nick Cannon announced that his close friend and artist, rapper Ryan Bowers had committed suicide. He wrote, “Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse… 2020 is definitely the most f*cked up year I’ve ever witnessed! After waking up & barely rising from my own dark contemplation of continuing my physical existence on this planet, this powerful warrior actually had the balls to do it. I’ve said it once and I will say it again, this was the strongest dude I’ve ever met!”

Nick then went on to explain how Ryan was shot by a San Diego Police officers and was in a coma fort months. He came out of a coma within months and wa back to work on his album. 

Nick continued, ” Once again my brother you have put this world in perspective for me. You would do that quite often because I never understood how someone who was experiencing sooo much pain could still laugh and smile through it all. We almost made it little bro! But I guess even flying Super Heros have to land eventually. But I am certain that your energy will never die and your Spirit is eternal, so I ask you still to forgive me for letting you down Warrior. I can’t help but think if I wasnt so engulfed in my own bullsh*t I could’ve been there for you when you finally took your life after several attempts… F*ck this place!! #CantWin #ForLosing🙏

TOXIC ELLEN? One current and 10 former employees are claiming that Ellen DeGeneres creates a “toxic” environment on her eponymous show. They told BuzzFeed that her “be kind” message “only happens when the cameras are on.” Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassnerresponded to the allegations in a joint statement to the website, saying, “Over the course of nearly two decades, 3,000 episodes and employing over 1,000 staff members, we have strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment. We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It’s not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us. For the record, the day-to-day responsibility of the Ellen show is completely on us. We take all of this very seriously and we realize, as many in the world are learning, that we need to do better, are committed to do better and we will do better.”
