JUSTIN BIEBER’S DEFAMATION SUIT MOVES FORWARD WITH TWITTER SUBPOENA: Justin Bieber won a small victory Thursday in his defamation suit against two social media users who accused him of sexual assault. A judge granted a motion by Justin’s lawyers to subpoena Twitter for information on the identities of the two women, who are known only as Danielle and Kadi online. “We just want to uncover who is behind these two accounts and it may be the same person,” Bieber’s lawyer, Evan N. Spiegel, told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Green. Justin filed a $20 million defamation lawsuit against the accusers last month, claiming their allegations of assault in 2014 and 2015 can be disproved by “indisputable documentary evidence” – including eyewitness accounts and paparazzi photos showing where Justin really was on the days in question.

HAILEY BIEBER APOLOGIZES AFTER GETTING CALLED OUT FOR ‘NOT NICE’ BEHAVIOR – (07/17/2020)

Hailey Bieber is saying she’s “sorry” after she got publicly called out by hostess Julia Carolan on TikTok. She participated in a series calling out celebrities participants had previously met and rating them on their behavior.

Carolan said she worked as a hostess “in a fancy Manhattan restaurant,” and encountered multiple celebs. She rated her interactions with Gigi and Bella Hadid as 10/10, saying they were “so nice” and were “super polite and friendly with staff,” which as Carolan noted “is rare for celebrities.”

Then she shared her encounter with Bieber. She said: “This is gonna be controversial. I’ve met her a handful of times and every time she was not nice. I really wanna like her but I have to give her like a 3.5 out of 10. Sorry!”

“Just came across this video, and wanted to say so sorry if I’ve ever given you bad vibes or a bad attitude,” Bieber wrote in the comments of Carolan’s video. “That’s not ever my intention!”

She added: “Hate hearing that was your experience with me but glad u called me out so I can do better!! Hopefully we meet again so I can apologize in person.”

After seeing Beiber’s comments, Carolan replied, “Hi Hailey! We love an accountability queen [crown emoji] thanks sm for taking the time to apologize – I hope we can meet again one day and start over. x.”

The clip has been seen and liked more than 2.6 million times.

NICK CANNON IS TAKING TIME OFF FROM HIS RADIO SHOW – (07/17/2020)

Nick Cannon has announced that he is taking time off from his nationally syndicated radio show following the fall out from his recent “anti-semitic” comments. Cannon announced via Twitter yesterday (July 16th), “I have decided to take some time away from my radio show so I can commit myself to deeper, more thorough reflection and education. I continue to express my gratitude to the Rabbis, community leaders and institutions who have reached out to me to help enlighten me.”

He continued, “Their input and friendship will help me as I further commit myself to more profound learning and towards strengthening the bond between the Black and Jewish cultures every day going forward.”

Skyview Networks, the syndicator for Nick’s show, said in a statement to ET that “Nick Cannon has begun a period of self-reflection to address the pain he caused. While we recognize his apology, this time is needed to establish an action plan towards real change and advocacy,” the statement continued. “During this period, production of the Nick Cannon Radio show will pause. Skyview Networks values all communities and faiths and we expect all programs and personalities we syndicate to adhere to these principles.”

Meanwhile, Rabbi Abraham Cooper — who had a conversation with Nick earlier this week and explained to him why Jewish people may be offended by his statements, told TMZ that Nick is seeking enlightenment. Cooper said that he spoke to Nick on the phone and said that he was apologetic upfront but more importantly, he listened when Cooper explained how his comments were hateful and harmful. Cooper said that Nick admitted that he was wrong and requested another discussion in order to gain more knowledge. The two met last night (July 16th). 

CHRIS EVANS GIFTING CAPTAIN AMERICA SHIELD TO REAL HERO: Chris Evans is so moved by the now-viral story of Bridger Walker saving his sister from a dog attack, and suffering a horrific injury in the process, he’s gifting his Captain America shield to him. “Pal, you’re a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless — your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you,” Evans said in a video message that the family shared Wednesday. “Keep being the man you are, we need people like you. Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think there’s much that can slow you down.”

DID KANYE WEST DROP OUT OF THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL RACE? – (07/16/2020)

It looks like Kanye West may not have dropped out of the 2020 presidential race. According to TMZ, an individual named Andre Bodiford filed Form 1 “Statement of Organization” with the Federal Election Commission on yesterday (July 15th), which established “a principal campaign committee” for West. 

The document listed the music and fashion as the BDY (Birthday) Party candidate for November’s election, and named Bodiford as the campaign Custodian of Records and Treasurer. Later, the Oklahoma State Election board confirmed that West had secured a spot on the state’s general election ballot. 

A rep for West told People that he had submitted a “Statement of Candidacy” and paid the $35,000 filing fee to run as an independent candidate. 

KANYE’S TWITTER ACCOUNT HACKED

In other news, Kanye’s Twitter account was hacked yesterday afternoon (July 15th) in what appears to be a cryptocurrency scam. Other hgh profile Twitter users like Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama and Elon Musk‘s Twitter accounts were hacked as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the accounts all tweeted similar messages offering to “give back to the community” in what appeared to be a cryptocurrency scam. They later shared a Bitcoin wallet address and told Twitter users that they would double any amount sent in.

Twitter Support later posted that it was aware of the security incident, saying, “We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.”

SHAWN MENDES PARTNERS WITH GLOBAL CITIZEN FOR $250,000 SCHOLARSHIP FUND – (07/16/2020)

Shawn Mendes has teamed up with Global Citizen to launch a pioneering program aimed specifically at teaching leadership skills to high school graduates worldwide.

Called the Global Citizen Academy, grads across the globe will be granted access to the Minerva Project – a virtual platform specializing in educational and innovative programs. The Academy will also offer virtual lesson plans aimed at bolstering future leaders to help them build “powerful and practical skills for a lifetime of social impact.”

The course, which includes lectures from global leaders, runs from early September to mid-December. The deadline to apply is July 30th.

The singer launched the Shawn Mendes Foundation Scholarship, which will offer up to $250,000 in grants to allow those who would otherwise find the tuition cost-prohibitive.

Halsey will deliver an exclusive acoustic performance on her YouTube page today.

The singer teamed up with Magnum Ice Cream for a #TrueToPleasure performance to benefit GLSEN, an organization that provides judgment-free LGBTQ-inclusive education.

The mini-concert will encourage donations to GLSEN, to which Magnum Ice Cream has already pledged $50,000.

Halsey announced last week that she was partnering with Magnum for their #TrueToPleasure campaign, which encourages people to embrace their individuality.

“I’ll be sharing my biggest pleasure with you all, playing music,” she shared to her followers. “This performance will only be available for 30mins, so don’t miss it!”

BEYONCE TEAMS UP WITH NAACP: Beyonce’s BeyGOOD’s Black Business Impact Fund is partnering with the NAACP to assist Black-owned businesses impact by COVID-19. Grants of $10,000 will be offered. “Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the Black community and across the country has been felt in every imaginable area of our lives, including in how our local businesses continue to operate,” an official statement reads, in part. “The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs.” (ET)

KANYE WEST DROPS OUT OF 2020 PRESIDENTIAL RACE – (07/15/2020)

It is being reported that Kanye West has dropped out of the 2020 presidential race. According to Intelligencer, multiple campaign professionals have claimed that Kanye started the process of having his name included on the ballots for Florida and other states as a third-party candidate, in opposition to Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

A source said that they had been contacted by Kanye’s team about going to Florida to get the necessary signatures to that he could make it on the state’s ballot by the July 15th deadline.  In order to meet the ballot requirements, 132,781 Florida voters would have to sign the petition in less than a week.

Since Kanye entered the presidential race late in the game, his name is unable to appear on many state ballots. This will make it difficult for him to earn enough votes to be elected.

Steve Kramer, a “get out the vote” specialist who was hired by Kanye’s team to help out in Florida, confirmed that Kanye was “out” of the race.

KANYE WEST WAS ALLEGEDLY PULLING 2% OF VOTES IN PRESIDENTIAL POLL

Prior to it being reported that Ye dropped out of the race, a consulting firm that does polling and market reasearch has found that the music and fashion icon allegedly only pulled 2% of votes in the presidential poll. According to TMZ, Redfield & Wilton Strategies released results from a poll it did last week and Kanye only clocked in at 2% out of 2,000 people polled. 

Meanwhile, third party candidates from the Libertarian and Green Parties aren’t polling much higher than Kanye — both also hit the 2% and 1% each, respectively.

The poll also showed that Kanye getting into the race actually hurt Donald Trump. Trump went from 40% to 39% with Kanye in the race and Biden is at the lead with 48%.

MAROON 5’S MICKEY MADDEN TAKING LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM BAND; NEW TOUR DATES REVEALED – (07/15/2020)

Maroon 5 has announced their brand new 2021 tour dates after postponing their 2020 tour due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The band released the dates, cities, and venues they plan on hitting up next summer. The trek, which was supposed to kick off in May, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will now launch July 15, 2021 in Chula Vista, California. The 41-date run will wrap October 2nd in Los Angeles.

Leon Bridges and Meghan Trainor were set to open for Maroon 5 on their tour this year, though it’s unclear at the moment if they’re still scheduled to provide support next year.

It was also revealed that Maroon 5 member Mickey Madden has decided to take a leave of absence from the band after he was arrested for a domestic violence allegation.

“I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” he told said in a statement. “During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”

Madden was arrested on a felony charge in Los Angeles last month and was released on $50,000 bond. It’s unclear if Madden’s leave of absence is temporary or permanent.

Maroon 5 released their most recent studio album, Red Pill Blues, in 2017.

VIACOM ENDS RELATIONSHIP WITH NICK CANNON OVER ‘ANTI-SEMITIC’ COMMENTS – (07/15/2020)

ViacomCBS has ended its decades long relationship with Nick Cannon after he made comments deemed anti-Semitic on his “Cannon’s Class” podcast. According to TMZ, the company said in a statement, “While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism, and we are terminating our relationship with him.” 

The statement continued, “We are committed to doing better in our response to incidents of anti-Semitism, racism, and bigotry. ViacomCBS will have further announcements on our efforts to combat hate of all kinds.”

During the June 30th episode, Cannon interviewed Professor Griff of the iconic rap group Public Enemy. Weeks later, Nick started trending after a clip of him referring to white and Jewish people as “the true savages” started circulating on social media. He was discussing the power White and Jewish people have and the ways they’ve treated “melanated” people. 

He explained, “Our melanin is so power[ful] and it connects us in a way that the reason why [White people] fear us is because of the lack that they have of it. When you have a person that has the lack of pigment, the lack of melanin, they know that they will be annihilated. So, therefore, however they got the power, they have the lack of compassion. Melanin comes with compassion, melanin comes with soul.”

He continued, “The people that don’t have [melanin] are a little less… They may not have the compassion when they were sent to the mountains of Caucasus when they didn’t have the power of the Sun. The Sun then started to deteriorate them so then, they’re acting out of fear, they’re acting out of low self-esteem, they’re acting out of a deficiency. So, therefore, the only way that they can act is evil. They have to rob, steal, rape, kill in order to survive. So then, these people that didn’t have what we have—and when I say we, I speak of the melanated people—they had to be savages.”

NICK CLARIFIES HIS STATEMENT

After receiving mixed reactions to his comments, Cannon released a statement via his Facebook page, saying that he condemns hate speech. He said, “Anyone who knows me knows that I have no hate in my heart nor malice intentions. I do not condone hate speech nor the spread of hateful rhetoric. We are living in a time when it is more important than ever to promote unity and understanding. The Black and Jewish communities have both faced enormous hatred, oppression persecution and prejudice for thousands of years and in many ways have and will continue to work together to overcome these obstacles.”

When some challenged him, saying that he didn’t apologize, he told Fast Company that apologies are empty and discussions and healing are needed. He said, “Are you forcing me to say the words ‘I’m sorry’? Are you making me bow down, ’cause then again, that would be perpetuating that same rhetoric that we’re trying to get away from. What we need is healing. What we need is discussion. Correct me. I don’t tell my children to say, ‘I’m sorry.’ I want them to understand where they need to be corrected. And then that’s how we grow.”

NEW CLUE MAY HAVE LED TO NAYA RIVERA’S BODY – (07/14/2020)

UPDATE: A body found Monday in southern California’s Lake Piru is Glee actor Naya Rivera, Ventura County Sheriff’s officials confirmed.

A new clue turned up in the search for Glee star Naya Rivera over the weekend that may have helped the investigation. The 33-year-old disappeared after taking her 4-year-old son Josey on a boating trip in Lake Piru in California. On Monday, searchers reportedly recovered her body. 

Robert Inglis of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team told Us Weekly that Rivera sent a photo of them to a relative shortly before she vanished. Josey was found on the lake 90 minutes to two hours after the photo was taken near a cove. He was alone on the boat and told authorities that he and his mom had gone swimming together, but that she never made it back to the boat. (She shares Josey with her ex Ryan Dorsey).

Search crews combed the area around the cove. “We did send our dive members to those two locations and searched those extensively,” he told the outlet.

He added that in many cases, there are witnesses “who see someone jumping off a boat so we know which area to search and we can find the body more quickly.”

There were no witnesses in this case. He added: “In this case, it really could be the whole lake. There are a lot of coves that have to be searched.”

DIVING EXPERT
Meanwhile, Inglis, also a diving expert, told Us Weekly what he believes happened: “The best thing that we can say that contributes to a lot of the drownings is when people go swimming and they are not wearing their life vests. And they jumped off the boat. It doesn’t take much to get exhausted if you’re not in shape. Winds do kick up at that lake, and the boats start to get away and you are trying to go after that boat … you could get a leg cramp. If you are wearing a life vest, you could rest and someone can go back and pick you up, or call for help or something like that.”

He added that “people are muscular” have a harder time floating.  “They struggle because they are sinking. They can’t float. So depending on the body tone of a person, you could get that feeling that you are being sucked down because you really just can’t float.“

“If you’re not familiar with the boat and getting on and off the boat, you can get tired just climbing onto the boat. You can fall back in, people hit their heads, things like that,” he told Us. “There are some cases in lakes where one person is in the water, starts to drown, then someone else jumps in to try to save the other person. The person drowning is saved and gets back on the boat, but the other person who jumped in to save them didn’t make it back into the boat.”

At least eight people have drowned in the lake, the most recent being 2008. 

In Rivera’s 2016 Sorry Not Sorry, she called Josey her “greatest” success.

POST MALONE, HALSEY AND KHALID WIN BMI POP AWARDS – (07/14/2020)

Post Malone, Halsey and Khalid were big winners at this year’s BMI Pop Awards.

Honors for Songwriter of the Year were shared by Khalid and Post Malone, who each penned four of BMI’s top-performing songs of 2019. Khalid’s “Beautiful People,” “Better,” “Eastside” and “Talk” dominated the airways and the charts, alongside Post Malone’s “Goodbyes,” “Jackie Chan,” “Sunflower” and “Wow.”

Khalid and Malone enjoyed a successful year, accruing numerous accolades and media praise between them. The catchy hit single “Talk” earned over 186 million streams on Spotify, making Khalid the most listened to artist on the platform, and garnered a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year, his sixth nod to date.

Post Malone teamed up with fellow BMI songwriter Swae Lee for “Sunflower,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in the Top 10 for a total of 33 weeks. The smash single received two Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Post Malone was also named BMI’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year in 2019.

DEMI MOORE RESPONDS TO FEEDBACK ON BATHROOM DÉCOR – (07/14/2020)

Demi Moore’s unusual approach to bathroom décor went viral, and when she found it, she joined in on the fun. Last week, the 57-year-old shared a shot of her in-home office. 

“Excited to finally share what I’ve been working on!” she shared via Instagram, promoting her new six-episode podcast series, Dirty Diana. The photo shows Moore sitting on a Victorian-style patterned fainting couch in her bathroom, which was also covered in brown carpeting.

The reaction was immediate. Wrote one critic: “Starting a Slack channel for the sole purpose us discussing why Demi Moore has both carpet and a couch in her bathroom. Trying to put together the pieces before I pivot to Demi Moore interior design stan account full time.”

While many were less enthusiastic, another wrote: “Honestly??? Genius in the way that now it’s a shorter distance to lay on that couch in your towel for hours instead of walking all the way to your bed to do the same thing.”

When Demi discovered the thread, she wrote:  “This thread has our whole family howling!” Her daughters Rumer, 31, and Tallulah, 26, also got in on the “hilarious observations” about their mom’s decorating skills, with the former tweeting, “Thank you Alexis for this magic.”

JOHN TRAVOLTA’S WIFE KELLY PRESTON DEAD AT 57 – (07/13/2020)

Actress Kelly Preston has died after a two year battle with breast cancer. She was 57. According to TMZ, a family rep confirmed that she passed yesterday (July 12th). The rep also revealed that she chose to keep her cancer battle private, saying, “Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends.” The rep added, “She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.”

John Travolta — who was married to Kelly for 28 years, said in a statement on Instagram, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”

He continued, “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”

He added, “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”

Kelly is best known for her role as ‘Avery Bishop” in “Jerry Maguire.” She also starred in “For Love of the Game” and had roles in “The Cat in the Hat,” “Battlefield Earth” and “What a Girl Wants.”

Kelly’s last film was “Gotti” in 2018.

Kelly met John in 1987. They wed in 1991. They had three kids: Jett, Ella Bleu and Benjamin. Jett, who was autistic, passed away in 2009 after suffering a seizure.

AUTHORITIES REVEAL UNDERWATER FOOTAGE FROM NAYA RIVERA SEARCH, FAMILY VISITS LAKE – (07/13/2020)

The search for Glee star Naya Rivera at Lake Piru in California continued over the weekend. She disappeared on Thursday during a boating trip with her 4-year-old son Josey. He was found napping on the boat, and is doing fine. 

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released video footage from their deployment of a remotely operated vehicle 30 feet under the lake’s surface. The ROV was sent down to investigate a dark shape, but it turned out to be a tree branch. 

TMZ reports that authorities are also planning to search the cabins around the lake to dispel theories that Rivera made her way to one.

RECOVERING RIVERA 

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Captain Eric Buschow said the situation is “difficult” because  “we don’t know if she’s going to be found five minutes from now or five days from now.”

Buschow is confident that Rivera’s body will be found. Rivera shared Josey with her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey. He reportedly told authorities that they went swimming together in the lake, but that she never jumped back into the boat. 

A spokesperson, Sergeant Kevin Donoghue, didn’t sound as sure as Buschow at an earlier press conference. “In this particular lake, in that area, there’s a lot of trees and plants and such that are under the water that can cause entanglements. It makes it unsafe for the divers and it makes it a more complicated search,” Donoghue explained. “If the body is entangled in something beneath the water, it may never come back up. We don’t know.”

An eyewitness told ET of seeing Rivera and Josey set off: “It was a beautiful day. It was comfortable weather and there were other pontoon boats in the water and even a water skier. She looked like any other mother with her son going out to enjoy the day.”

While Josey was wearing a life vest, Rivera was not. 

FAMILY VISIT 

Amid the search, Rivera’s family members visited Lake Piru on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office tells ET. The lake is about 1,200 acres in size, with depths of 130 feet.

Her father George, mother Yolanda and brother Mychal reportedly broke down in tears at the lake, with Yolanda falling to her knees with her arms stretched toward the water, TMZ reports. 

Dorsey also visited the lake, and waded in the waters fully clothed with her father. The pair were seen embracing. Dorsey and Rivera divorced in 2018 after four years of marriage.

AUTHORITIES: LET POLICE HANDLE NAYA RIVERA SEARCH: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office asked would-be sleuths to stay away from Lake Piru as they continue to search for Naya Rivera, who is presumed to have drowned during a boating trip with her son Josey. They warned, “We don’t want to have to rescue you,” adding that the temperature was in the 90s and that the terrain around the lake was “very steep and rugged.” (Page Six) 

DONALD TRUMP RESPONDS TO KANYE WEST’S PRESIDENTIAL BID – (07/13/2020)

Donald Trump has responded to Kanye West announcing that he is running for President in 2020. In an interview with Fox News‘ Sean Hannity, he said, “Well, I like his voice being heard, but he’s always going to be for us, and his wife is going to be for us.” 

Despite Kanye telling Forbes that he no longer supports Trump, Trump has nothing negative to say about Kanye. He added, “He’s a very good guy. He is a person that I get along with very well,” said Trump. “At the end I think he would support us over anyone else. FANS DRAG AUTHORITIES FOR CALLING OFF NAYA RIVERA SEARCH AS CELEBS ASK FOR PRAYERS – (07/10/2020)

While the search for the missing Glee star Naya Rivera has resumed, fans dragged authorities for suspending their search overnight. Rivera vanished while boating with her 4-year-old son on a California lake. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said that divers are searching for the 33-year-old in Lake Piru, about 56 miles north of downtown L.A. 

“The lake will be closed to the public while search operations continue,” the sheriff’s office wrote Thursday on Twitter.

Fans were furious that the search was called off and spoke out on Twitter, alleging that if Rivera (who is Puerto Rican, Black and German) were white, they wouldn’t have done that. 

Wrote one: “it’s actually infuriating. what if it was lea? or any other white actor? they wouldn’t be stopping their search. it doesn’t (and will never) matter if you’re gorgeous, rich, famous. naya is a latinx woman, with tan skin. FLASHLIGHTS, PEOPLE. ITS 2020.”

Rivera is presumed dead after she took out a boat around 1 p.m. Wednesday with her son Josey. He was discovered three hours later alone and sleeping, and Rivera could not be located. Josey is reportedly in good condition.

Meanwhile, Rivera’s co-stars and other Hollywood pals, including Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr. and Demi Lovato, are praying for her safe return. “Please pray for Naya Rivera to be found safe and sound,” Lovato wrote. Her former fiancé Big Sean is also showing his support on social media.

KATY PERRY ANNOUNCES FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM, ‘SMILE’ – (07/10/2020)

Katy Perry has unveiled the title and artwork for her forthcoming fifth studio album, Smile.

“Step right up! Step right up! 🎪 KP5 is called 🙂 #SMILE 🙂,” she wrote on social media. “I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile. This whole album is my journey towards the light – with stories of resilience, hope, and love. Listen to the song at midnight local time Friday, July 10 and pre-order the album at the link in bio. ♥️,” she continued.

The title track is out now and the album will be released on August 14th.

In March, Perry released a video for her single “Never Worn White,” in which she revealed her pregnancy.

HARRY STYLES’ ‘DREAM WITH ME’ SLEEP STORY IS OUT NOW ON THE CALM APP – (07/10/2020)

Harry Styles teamed up with the Calm app for a sleep and meditation story titled Dream With Me, out now.

“Sleep and meditation are a huge part of my routine, whether I’m at home, in the studio, or out on the road,” Harry said in a statement. “Rest and recovery is as important as doing the work. Finding a balance has been endlessly beneficial to both my physical and mental health. It’s changed my life. I’m so happy to be collaborating with Calm at a time when the world needs all the healing it can get. Treat people with kindness.”

The 30-minute sleep story is narrated by Styles. As late as Wednesday afternoon, however, the Calm app appeared to be having some technical difficulties, and many were unable to access Styles’ recording. When trying to refresh the Sleep Stories feature, an error message popped up explaining that the app was “temporarily unavailable.”

“We are actively working on a fix,” a spokeswoman for Calm said. “Keep an eye on our social channels for updates. All of our users will be able to #DreamWithHarry soon. We appreciate your patience!”

Calm cofounder and co-CEO Michael Acton Smith said in a statement that Styles’ “mellifluous voice is the perfect tonic to calm a racing mind.”

LADY A VERSUS LADY A CONTINUES – (07/10/2020)

It was reported yesterday that the trio of Lady Antebellum was suing Anita White over a dispute of the name Lady A. The band filed the suit only after Anita White had asked for a $10 million for the settlement.

The blues artist who also goes by the name Lady A made this statement: “I was quiet for two weeks because I was trying to believe that it was going to be okay and that they would realize that it would be easier to just change their name, or pay me for my name. She continued: “But here we go again with another white person trying to take something from a black person, even though they say they’re trying to help.”

The trio Lady A officially changed their name from Lady Antebellum to the shorter nickname, dropping the slavery-tied “Antebellum” on June 11 amid national conversations about racism and inequality in the United States. Lady A is a nickname fans have used for the band — and one they have used themselves — for years.

In the band’s law suit, they do not ask for money from Anita White; rather, they want a declaration from the court that they are using their name lawfully, and that they are not infringing on White’s rights by continuing to use it.

TWITTER RESPONDS AS J.K. ROWLING JOINS 150 PUBLIC FIGURES SLAMMING ‘CANCEL CULTURE’ – (07/09/2020)

J.K. Rowling has joined 150 authors and academics in an open-letter that denounces “cancel culture,” a reference to the online flogging of people who say or do something that social media users find unacceptable.

The letter welcomed the “needed reckoning” on racial and social justice but argued that it has “intensified a new set of moral attitudes and political commitments that tend to weaken our norms of open debate.”

It continued: “The free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted. While we have come to expect this on the radical right, censoriousness is also spreading more widely in our culture: an intolerance of opposing views, a vogue for public shaming and ostracism, and the tendency to dissolve complex policy issues in a blinding moral certainty.”

The Harry Potter scribe has come under fire in recent weeks for what many consider to be transphobic comments. Their letter was published by Harper’s Magazine, and the response online was predictably outraged. 

Twitter, for the most part, just wasn’t having it. Wrote one: “ ‘Cancel culture’ is an essential part of free speech. If celebrities say things we find repugnant, it is our right to cease consuming their content. What she means is, ‘I should be able to say whatever awful shit comes into my head without losing sales.’”

Another tweeted: “There are limits to everything but ‘cancel culture’ is a part of free speech. If people & institutions want to ‘cancel’ (ie. not work with or give money to) David Starkey because of his comments on ‘damn blacks’ that’s their right in a free society.”

DEMI LOVATO REVEALS WHY SHE LEFT DISNEY CHANNEL – (07/09/2020)

Devi Lovato has opened up about her childhood as a Disney Channel star and the battles with eating disorders that she says were enabled by her management team and upheld by the television industry.

In a new interview with Bustle, Lovato revealed the real reason why she decided not to return to star in the Disney series Sonny With a Chance after a 2010 altercation with a backup dancer spurred her to leave the show and undergo her first stint in rehab.

“I kind of looked around and had a moment where I was like, ‘Wow. This is so terrifyingly normalized,” Lovato said of the television industry, detailing that she used to be given “watermelon with fat-free whipped cream” in place of a birthday cake each year.

“When I went to treatment in 2010, I came out of the experience with the choice of talking about my struggles or my journey with the possibility of helping people, or keeping my mouth shut and going back to Disney Channel,” she continued. “And I was like that doesn’t feel authentic to me. So I chose to tell my story.”

Lovato’s eating disorder persisted, fueling her opioid addiction and eventual overdose in 2018, which resulted in the her returning to rehab. This time, she has emerged in a much healthier place, ready to reinvent herself and dictate her own future, she explained.

“I want a career that has nothing to do with my body. I want it to be about my music and my lyrics and my message. And I want a long-lasting career that I don’t have to change myself for,” Lovato said. “Music brought me so much joy when I was younger, and I lost that joy throughout the hustle and bustle of the music industry. I got miserable. And I don’t ever want it to be like that again.”

It was so intense, it caused you so much pain!” Shocked, Billie replied: “You did?! Oh that’s embarrassing.”

ACTRESS NAYA RIVERA MISSING AFTER SWIMMING IN LAKE PIRU WITH 4-YEAR-OLD SON: Authorities were searching for Glee actress Naya Rivera last night after her 4-year-old son was found floating alone on a rented boat in Lake Piru in California. According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Rivera rented the boat at about 1 p.m. About three hours later, another boater found the child in the boat by himself. The boaters notified officials who immediately began a search for Rivera with the use of helicopters, drones and dive teams. The child was said to be unharmed and told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother never got back into the boat. Authorities believe Rivera to be “presumed drowned” and the search will continue at daybreak. Authorities were working to reunite the child with family members.
