TERRY CREWS SAYS ‘BROOKLYN NINE-NINE HAD TO START OVER AFTER GEORGE FLOYD’S DEATH – (06/25/2020)

Following George Floyd’s death at the hands of police, cops shows have been under the microscope. Cops itself was canceled, and many wondered how NBC’s hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine would address the Black Lives Movement.

Fans got an idea, when star Terry Crews revealed that several scripts had to be completely tossed and season 8 essentially restarted. He said that showrunner Dan Goor “had four [new] episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.”

Crews added that the cast has had “a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity here, and we plan to use it in the best way possible.”

He dubbed  the death of George Floyd “Black America’s #MeToo movement.”

“We always knew this was happening,” he said, “but now, white people are understanding.”

The Golden Globe-winning show also stars Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Andre Braugher and Melissa Fumero.

JENNIFER ANISTON TALKS ESCAPING ‘FRIENDS’ CURSE – (06/25/2020)

STATIONS: Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive to your audience.

All actors want a hit, but according to Jennifer Aniston, there’s definitely such a thing as too much success. In a roundtable talk with The Hollywood Reporter, she opened up about breaking free from Rachel Green’s shadow. She said: “I could not get Rachel Green off of my back for the life of me. I could not escape Rachel from Friends, just Rachel from Friends, it’s on all the time and you’re just like, ‘Stop playing this f**king show.’ I completely just fought with myself and who I was in this industry forever because it was just constantly about trying to prove I was more than that.”

She said that 2002’s The Good Girl helped. “The Good Girl was the first time I got to really shed whatever the Rachel character was, and to be able to disappear into someone who wasn’t, that was such a relief to me,” she recalled. “But I remember the panic that set over me, thinking, ‘Oh God, I don’t know if I can do this. Maybe they’re right. Maybe everybody else is seeing something I’m not seeing, which is you are only that girl in the New York apartment with the purple walls.’ So, I was almost doing it for myself just to see if I could do something other than that. And it was terrifying because you’re doing it in front of the world.”

House of Representatives’ Justice in Policing Act of 2020. The letter, which was addressed to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy ends by asking that they vote “Yes” on the pending legislation.

It says, “The Justice in Policing Act is not about marginal change; it takes bold steps that will make a real, positive difference for law enforcement and the communities they serve. We applaud the provisions to ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants, to establish a national police misconduct registry, to collect data and improve investigations into police misconduct, to promote de-escalation practices, to establish comprehensive training programs, and to update and enhance standards and practices.”

Our communities and nation look to you to take a stand in this extraordinary moment and  we respectfully ask that you vote YES on the Justice in Policing Act of 2020.”

COLE SPROUSE AND LILI REINHART DENY SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS – (06/23/2020)

STATIONS: Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive to your audience.

Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are responding to allegations that they and two other members of the Riverdale cast are guilty of sexual assault or harassment.

Sprouse tweeted late Sunday: “Earlier today myself and three other cast mates were falsely accused of sexual offense by anonymous accounts on twitter. I take these accusations very seriously, and will be working with the right teams to get to the root of it.”

“False accusations do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault. Furthermore, I would never seek to silence anybody,” the Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum continued. “I encourage that people look into the accusations themselves, as the events detailed were factually untrue. This seems to be the latest claim in a series of incidents seeking to baselessly cancel my cast mates and me.”

Reinhart then quoted his tweet and added: “I have always taken sexual assault allegations seriously. But it was proven that this account was created specifically to create false stories about me and my cast. I can’t think of something more twisted than lying about sexual assault. It invalidates the men and women who are brave enough to come forward with the truth. This kind of lie can ruin lives and careers- and I can call it a lie because the person who made the allegations already admitted that the stories were fabricated.”

She continued: “We are looking into taking legal action. This kind of sick behavior only harms true survivors. This was incredibly triggering for me and scary because I’ve always supported survivors and believed them. I hope and pray that this does not discourage real survivors from speaking out about their experiences.”

The accusations were issued by an account with the handle @Victori66680029. Sprouse was accused of assault at a 2013 party, and similar allegations of misconduct were then issued against his costars Vanessa Morgan and KJ Apa on other anonymous Twitter accounts.

Reinhart’s accuser, @Tasha93948576 later tweeted: “Do you see how easy it is lie and you guys will believe it? Vanessa Morgan and Kj Apa didn’t do jack s—t. You will believe anything.” The account has since been deleted.

This comes after allegations of sexual assault against Ansel Elgort and Justin Bieber emerged on Twitter; both celebs denied the accusations.

BILLIE EILISH GETS RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST STALKER EXTENDED FOR THREE YEARS – (06/23/2020)

Billie Eilish and her family got a judge to extend a restraining order against a stalker for three more years.

The man, 24-year-old Prenell Rousseau, showed up repeatedly at the Eilish family’s Los Angeles home over two days in early May and displayed what was described as “erratic behavior.” He is now barred from attempting to contact or coming within 100 yards of Eilish or her parents, or from coming near Eilish’s workplaces.

Eilish, her attorney and her parents phoned in to last week’s hearing, held in a courtroom that was empty except for a reporter from the Associated Press and court staff because of coronavirus restrictions. All including the judge wore face masks. Eilish did not speak.

Neither Rousseau nor an attorney for him appeared at the hearing, and messages left by Billboard with possible relatives of the man were not returned.

Rousseau allegedly tried to gain access to the Eilish home, rang the doorbell, spoke to Eilish’s father and security guards, and even took a nap by an outer wall. He did not practice coronavirus-appropriate physical distancing, nor did he wear protective gear properly while speaking to staff. He also refused to leave when asked.

Tekashi took to Instagram to boast about his feat, saying, ““#1 ON @billboard YOU CANT STOP ME. Nicki responded to her fans, saying, “no words yet. All I can muster up is the ‘I love you’. Gimme a sec.”

She later told the barbs in a video, “Congratulations, Barbs. Y’all did this with no playlisting and no radio and it’s just not happening in 2020. All the records on the top of the chart right now are doing that with heavy playlisting and radio so for us to do that, debuting, that’s insane. So I love you guys so much. We just did the highest pure sales of the year of every song released. You can’t buy that. That’s fan love.”

Nicki added, “It’s a couple of things I want to get off my chest. There are certain things that have been going on in this industry for just way too long. I think it’s time for me to speak on it, a little bit. But in the meantime, and y’all know 6ix9ine going to be doing a lot this week. So, be prepared for that. I love you.” -Nicki Minaj’s Twitter

JUSTIN BIEBER DENIES SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS – (06/22/2020)

Justin Bieber denied sexually assaulting a fan in a lengthy Twitter thread.

The accuser, “Danielle,” tweeted from an anonymous account (that Twitter has since removed) on Saturday night (June 20th), claiming that Bieber took advantage of her six years ago.  According to her tweets, she joined him in his room at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, TX on March 9, 2014. She writes that he two made out consensually, before the singer sexually assaulted her.

Bieber tweeted a lengthy denial to the accusations posted by “Danielle” on Sunday (June 21st). He wrote, “I want to be clear. There is no truth to this story. In fact as I will soon show I was never present at that location.”

The thread that followed documented his stay in Austin on March 9th, 2014.  He posted photos of receipts showing that he stayed in an Airbnb on March 9th and at the Westin on March 10th.  His tweets also showed various photos of him hanging out with his assistant and his girlfriend at the time, Selena Gomez.

He summed it all up by writing, “Every claim of sexual abuse should be taken very seriously and this is why my response was needed. However this story is factually impossible and that is why I will be working with Twitter and authorities to take legal action.”

ANSEL ELGORT BREAKS SILENCE ON SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS – (06/22/2020)

Ansel Elgort has spoken out on social media, after being accused of sexual assault. A Twitter user who goes by the name of Gabby wrote to her followers that the 26-year-old actor “sexually assaulted me when I was 17. I had DMed him on when it was two days before my 17th birthday and I got his private Snapchat. I didn’t think he’d ever see my DM. I was just a kid and was a fan of him.”

Her profile has been set to private now.

According to reports, she added: “So when it happened, instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and I didn’t want to do it, the only words that came out of his mouth were ‘we need to break you in.’ I WASN’T there in that moment mentally. I disassociated myself and just felt like my mind was gone. I was in shock. I couldn’t leave. I was only 5’2 and 98 pounds. He made me think this is how sex was supposed to be. I WAS SO YOUNG AND HE KNEW THAT.”

She also claimed that Elgort, known for roles in Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, “asked to have a threesome with me and one of my ‘dance friends. They were as well underage and I didn’t tell anyone because he said it could ‘ruin his career.’ I sat there for months wondering what I did wrong. Wondering why I felt so used,” she alleged. “Years later, I have PTSD, I have panic attacks, I go to therapy. Finally I’m ready to talk about it and finally heal.”

On Saturday, Elgort wrote on Instagram: “I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours. I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her depiction of events is simply not what happened,” he explained. “I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well.”

Elgort added that he “stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone” and that he knows “this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.”

“As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”

CELEBRITIES CALL FOR JUNETEENTH TO BE DECLARED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY – (06/22/2020)

The time has come! Celebrities are demanding that Juneteenth be declared a National Holiday. The holiday, marking June 19, 1865, as many know, is an annual day celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S.

Amid Black Lives Matter, many in Hollywood and beyond are demanding that Juneteenth be declared a federal holiday. There is a movement afoot in D.C. to make it so. On Thursday, Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) announced that they are introducing legislation to make Juneteenth on official holiday.

Chris Evans retweeted the news, writing, “As it should be.”

George Clooney issued a statement:  “Thank you President Trump for ‘making Juneteenth famous.’ Much like when Bull Connor made ‘Civil Rights’ famous. My family will be donating [$500,000] to the Equal Justice Initiative in honor of your heroic efforts.”

Lupita Nyong’o wrote: “Public holidays indicate the moments in history that are important to a nation and the values they hold dear. Recognizing #Juneteenth nationally would be one more way to acknowledge the intrinsic value of Black people and their history to the wealth and prosperity of the USA.”

Jason Alexander tweeted: “A black man inspired me to be an actor. Another black man changed the course of my career. A black woman raised me when my mother was too ill. Another black woman cared for my mother 17 years, holding her hand at her death. There is no me without them.”

Superstar singers like Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Usher and Ludacris were among those also among those championing the caue. Usher wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post Friday. He wrote: “Recognizing Juneteenth as a national holiday would be a small gesture compared with the greater social needs of black people in America. But it can remind us of our journey toward freedom, and the work America still has to do.”

Viola Davis spoke out:  “#HappyJuneteenth I’ll tell you what this ‘Juneteenth’, ‘Liberation’, ‘Freedom’ Day means to me. It means to truly and actually be set free from imprisonment and oppression in ALL aspects of this country. To break the micro and macroagressions of mindsets, ignorance, apathy, policies, and political ideologies steeped in systemic racism. So….this day is a ‘Woke’ marker…But…if there is anything to celebrate it’s my ancestors, African Americans who survived the atrocity and stain of slavery. They survived with grace, love and strength. I honor them today with a promise that I will continue to fight for your unexplored dreams and hopes…I will fight for your God given right to live as a human being. In the name of #BreonnaTaylor, #SandraBland, #GeorgeFloyd, #RayshardBrooks, #EmmettTill, #MedgerEvers…and MILLIONS MORE…..AMEN!!!!!”

Kim Kardashian wrote: “Today on #JuneTeenth we reflect, educate and commemorate the end of slavery in the US. We celebrate our black family members, friends and colleagues and the members of our community. We recommit ourselves to fight alongside then for their equal rights and equal justice.”

Sarah Hyland opined: “If you don’t know what #juneteenth is, google it. #makejuneteenthanationalholiday.”

Tom Hanks tweeted: “A Day to celebrate. Nationally. Working towards Liberty and Justice. For All. Hanx.”

After photos were published of the singer handing over her leather jacket to a woman at a Malibu market, the woman, Shannon McKee, explained the story behind the exchange to Today. “I walked in and I was like, ‘Hey, that’s a really bada** jacket you got on,’” McKee said. “And she said, ‘Thank you.’ I kind of recognized the voice, but I’m not one to really go up to celebrities.”

VANESSA BRYANT INTRODUCES KOBE AND GIANNA BRYANT HELICOPTER SAFETY ACT – (06/19/2020)

Vanessa Bryant has introduced the Kobe and Gianna Bryant Helicopter Safety act — a bill outlining safety measures that she hopes will “save many lives.” According to TMZ, the bill was formally introduced by lawmakers yesterday (June 18th) and would require choppers that carry six or more people to contain important safety equipment including a Terrain Awareness and Warning System, a flight data recorder and a cockpit voice recorder.

Bryant said in a statement, “I strongly urge that the United States Congress pass a federal law that would improve the safety of helicopters operating in this country.” She continued, “I believe there is a chance that Kobe and Gianna would still be alive today if their helicopter had been equipped with the safety equipment required by this pending federal legislation.  I believe that these safety measures will save many lives.”

She added, “As passengers traveling on aircrafts we assume that proper safety measures are in order to prevent accidents from happening before we fly. It’s unfortunate that this is not the case and aircraft companies must do their part to protect lives.”

Kobe, Gianna and seven others died on January 26th when their helicopters crashed in Calabasas, CA.

It was reported this week that officials believe the pilot might’ve been disoriented by the thick fog in the area that day.

Meanwhile, Vanessa is also pushing for the helicopter industry to “consider renaming the black box to Mamba 8 Box in honor of the 3 young Mamba team players, the 2 Mamba coaches and the 3 Mamba parents onboard, equaling 8.”

LIL NAS REVEALS WHY HE DENIED BEING A BARB, NICKI MINAJ RESPONDS – (06/18/2020)

Lil Nas X has revealed why he initially hid that he was a barb aka a Nicki Minaj fan. The “Old Town Road” tweeted at Minaj, asking for a collaboration. When one fan called him out for denying he was ever a fan, he responded, “i didn’t want people to know i was gay tbh.”

When another fan pointed out that being a Nicki Minaj fan doesn’t mean your gay, Lil Nas X responded, “it don’t but people will assume if you had an entire fan page dedicated to nicki u are gay.  and the rap/music industry ain’t exactly built or accepting of gay men yet.”

Nicki actually responded, saying, “It was a bit of a sting when you denied being a barb, but I understand. 🎀 Congratulations on building up your confidence to speak your truth. @LilNasX.” Lil Nas X responded, ““the generous queen, i love u.  and i’m sorry i did that in a time where u were already getting so much bandwagon hate.  i felt so bad, hoping u wouldn’t see my denial.  i was just so afraid of people finding out about me and losing everything before i even got a chance.”

NICKI ASKS FANS FOR BRA ADVICE

KELLY CLARKSON’S MARRIAGE ISSUES ‘EXACERBATED’ IN QUARANTINE – (06/18/2020)

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s marriage problems were “exacerbated” in quarantine, sources say.

The 38-year-old singer filed for divorce from music manager Brandon, 43, earlier this month after seven years of marriage and the Covid-19 lockdown reportedly deepened the cracks in the relationship. A source close to the couple told People: “It was a stressful time. Quarantining exacerbated any issues.”

Another insider revealed that work had put a lot of strain on their relationship and the pair – who have children River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4, together – had “been like friends for a while.” The source explained: “Things had changed in their marriage and the split was a while coming. They both work so hard. It’s nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention.

Kelly and Brandon had been quarantining together in Montana with their kids and his children, Savannah, 17, and 13-year-old Seth from a previous relationship, and Kelly previously admitted it was an “emotional rollercoaster.”

Meanwhile, Clarkson has finally learned how her name made it into that iconic 40-Year-Old Virgin scene. In the memorable scene, Steve Carell’s character is getting his chest waxed, and as the peel comes away he shouts in agony, “Aah … Kelly Clarkson!”

Clarkson chatted with director Judd Apatow during a remote episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show and got to the bottom of her name being used. “I”m gonna blame that Seth Rogen,” explained Apatow. “There’s a picture I think you have with a piece of paper with all the curses that we gave Steve to scream when he gets waxed and in the middle the column says ‘clean words’ — right in the middle, it says ‘Kelly Clarkson’.” The show then revealed that list, with the real swears blurred out.

Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Common, Michael Ealy, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jim Gaffigan, Tony Gonzalez, Lil Rel Howery, Taran Killam, Ne-Yo, Shaquille O’Neal, Patton Oswalt, Scottie Pippen, Ahmad Rashad, Andy Roddick, Deion Sanders, Marlon Wayans, Stevie Wonder and Roy Wood, Jr., will also make appearances.

On a Zoom listening session for his Bigger Love album earlier this month, Legend said that the stirring 16-track project’s lyrics “feel different now, given the circumstances,” but views part of his duty as an artist to “lift people up.” “This album is more focused on joy, love, hope, and on optimism,” he adds. “I think my last album [2016’s Darkness and Light] was kind of an album about being worried about being concerned and I definitely feel both. I feel like the world needs some joy.”

Meanwhile, Legend and Alicia Keys will go face to face on Instagram Live for the Verzuz TV battle on June 19th. The two will battle with their most famous hits over the years.

KOBE BRYANT’S PILOT MAY HAVE BEEN DISORIENTED BY FOG PRIOR TO CRASH – (06/18/2020)

In new documents released yesterday (June 17th), NTSB officials said that Kobe Bryant‘s helicopter pilot Ara Zobayan was most likely severely disoriented by fog seconds before crashing into a hill back in January. According to TMZ, the officials also say they have evidence that show that Zobayan thought he was ascending when the chopper was actually going downward.

In the docs, investigators claim that just moments before the crash, Zobayan told air traffic control he was “climbing to four thousand,” and air traffic control asked him what he intended to do once he got to that altitude. The NTSB said that Zobayan never responded, he had crashed at that point.

Investigators added that they believe “the pilot could have misperceived both pitch and roll angles” due to the dense fog in the area.

Autopsy results showed that Zobayan was NOT high on alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash and in the new docs, investigators say that  Zobayan’s girlfriend told them he was in great shape before the accident.

A final NTSB report with the official conclusion on the cause of the crash is expected to be released at a later date.

HELICOPTER CO. IN KOBE BRYANT CRASH TOUTS CANCELLATIONS: The company being investigated by the NTSB in Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash says it has a good track record on celeb cancellations, having pulled the plug on flights with Kylie Jenner and Kawhi Leanard, The Blast reports. In an email grabbed by the site, the director touts its record:  “These weather decisions were made by Ramp Crew-members, Pilots and management and these decisions were never questioned. Management supported every one of these decisions and the company clearly lost revenue. Attached is a report of all canceled flights giving a lot of detail.” (The Blast)

JIMMY KIMMEL IS SET TO HOST 2020 EMMY AWARDS – (06/17/2020)

The 2020 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are moving ahead as scheduled on September 20th, with Jimmy Kimmel as host! It is unclear if the broadcast will include an in-person audience, or if the show will go virtual. Either way, this year is expected to be very different.

In a statement, Kimmel said: “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it.” The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host will also serve as an executive producer. He previously hosted the 64th and 68th Emmy ceremonies.

Additional details will be “announced soon.”

“We know Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, funny and moving Primetime Emmys show,” said Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment. “He’s a true master of ceremonies who reveres this industry and its people; and just as Jimmy has done with his own show over the past few months, he will tackle this momentous event with heart and humor, and bring some much-needed joy and optimism to our television colleagues and viewers at home.”

Awards season has been in flux this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, as shows and production have been shut down. On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 93rd Oscars would be rescheduled for the first time in 40 years due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Oscars will now take place on April 25, 2021.

The show is set to air at 8 pm EST on Sunday, September 20 on ABC. Last year, the Emmys experimented without a host, with mixed results. Instead, Fox invited Halsey to perform a tribute for the In Memoriam segment. In addition, Adam DeVeine and Thomas Lennon provided commentary as well.

GWEN STEFANI RETURNING TO ‘THE VOICE’ FOR SEASON 19 – (06/17/2020)

Gwen Stefani will be returning to The Voice for Season 19.

The 50-year-old singer will be taking back her seat at the judge’s panel for the upcoming season, alongside Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and boyfriend Blake Shelton.

Gwen will be replacing Nick Jonas, who joined the show in Season 18; He’ll be off filming a new movie while The Voice is shooting.

Jonas was recruited to fill Stefani’s seat in Season 18 when she departed the show for a Las Vegas residency. His first (and, for now, only) season proved to be an irregular one, with the series forced to complete its spring cycle virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. His finalist, Thunderstorm Artis, ultimately placed third, while Team Blake scored yet another win with artist Todd Tilghman.

The No Doubt singer last appeared as a full-time coach in Season 17 and has previously served as a coach in Seasons 7, 9 and 12. She popped in as a mentor in Seasons 8 and 10.

The Voice returns this fall on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
