‘FROZEN 2’ HEATS UP THE B.O. FOR RECORD-BREAKING THANKSGIVING – (12/02/2019)
Black Friday ticket sales were up 101% over Thanksgiving, Deadline reports. Disney’s Frozen 2 is perched on top of the heap, bringing in $126.3 million over five days, with a running cume of $290.1 million.
Lionsgate/Media Rights Capital’s Knives Out, meanwhile, brought in $42.4 million over five days. The Rian Johnson film is packed with stars, including 007’s Daniel Craig, Avengers and Captain America’s Chris Evans, plus Halloween and Scream Queens Jamie Lee Curtis.
Reports RelishMix: “The curiosity around Knives Out for the audience is, which is it – more serious, or comedic? And that’s part of the fun. The movie has achieved social engagement leaning heavily positive based on its campaign’s core messaging, ‘When was the last time you had fun at the movies?’ The cast really helped this mystery film gain traction and build the fun toward opening weekend. For example, Evans drove plenty of moviegoers to see the trailers and other fun clips for Knives, which speaks to the after-effect of the Avengers series. Craig and Curtis, the latter hot off of Halloween last year, were instrumental in this film’s reach and engagement achievements, as convo confirms. There is also the usual references to the songs, the moments, and the hunt for those ‘Easter eggs,’ particularly in the fun materials put out by a thriller/mystery like Knives.”
Also at the B.O. is Fox/Disney’s Ford v. Ferrari, with $19.8 million over five days, and Sony’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, with $18.3 million.

ELLIE GOULDING’S HALFTIME HAT COMPARED TO A LAMPSHADE – (12/02/2019)
Ellie Goulding performed the halftime show of the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day and the one thing people can’t stop talking about is her hat – which people are saying resembles a lampshade.
The special concert took place on Thursday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Ellie was joined on stage by the Cowboys’ cheerleaders for the performance. Ellie almost didn’t perform the halftime show after finding out that the Salvation Army, an organization being supported by the halftime show, is not considered an LGBTQ-friendly charity.
But the show went on as planned, and fans had thoughts, mostly about the singer’s headgear. Goulding topped a black and white ensemble with a hat that social media users declared resembled lampshade. The white hat seemed to be modeled in a cowboy style, and had an edge rimmed with what appeared to be diamonds or rhinestones in a dripping fashion, covering her eyes.
“Ellie Goulding coming out for the halftime show like….” wrote one user, attaching a photo of Patrick Star, from the TV series SpongeBob SquarePants, with a lampshade on his head.
“Why is Ellie Goulding doing the half time show in Dallas and why is she doing Sia cosplay,” said someone else, referencing Sia’s iconic black-and-white wig. And the jokes just went on.
The Thanksgiving halftime show is a Cowboys tradition, kicking off the Salvation Army’’s Red Kettle Campaign.
