JUSTIN BIEBER & HAILEY BALDWIN OFFICIALLY GET MARRIED AGAIN – (10/01/2019)

Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber have officially tied the knot for the second time.

The 25-year-old singer and the 22-year-old model got married in front of friends and family at the Montage Palmetto Bluff resort on Monday in Bluffton, South Carolina. Justin and Hailey said “I do” in front of 154 guests at the Somerset Chapel and then guests were escorted to a cocktail hour at the Wilson Ballroom.

Some of the celebs in attendance at the wedding included Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Camila Morrone, Justin’s manager Scooter Braun, and more. Performing at the wedding was Grammy-winning singer Daniel Caeser.

Unlike their first wedding ceremony – which took place in a New York City courthouse – this one was full of glitz, glamour, and romance.

Justin posted a photo of his new Audemars Piguet watch just before the ceremony. He captioned the below image, “Got myself a lil wedding gift.” An Audemars Piguet watch can fetch upwards of one million dollars.

Sources say the Biebers threw a star-studded rehearsal dinner at the luxurious Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina on Sunday. The guest list included manager Scooter Braun, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Justine Skye, and others.

Following the rehearsal dinner, TMZ reports that Baldwin and Bieber hosted a sleepover at the Montage, where multiple sources told the outlet that the couple had a screening of The Notebook there along with “fun and games.”

WHY ELSA WON’T HAVE A LOVE INTEREST IN ‘FROZEN 2,’ BUT MAY HAVE A GIRLFRIEND IN ‘3’ – (10/01/2019)

In Frozen 2, Elsa (Idina Menzel), Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) will seek out answers to their past. When the film drops November 22n, there will be magic, new characters and mystery … but what about love? 

Speculation about the choices Disney will make about Elsa’s love life has reached a feverish pitch, especially after the first Frozen was seen as throwing off many of the tired Disney “Princess” tropes that always saw a damsel being rescued by a handsome prince. It seems the filmmakers are trying to live up the the high standards they set the first time around. 

Filmmaker Jennifer Lee told ET point blank: “Elsa’s not going to have a romantic relationship in this.”

Lee added that the sequel will delve into each character’s backstory, and not their romantic status: “For this film, we spent a lot of time journaling and we said we took these pretty intense personality tests [for each character]. We found this is a woman who wasn’t ready for a relationship at all. She’s carrying a lot of pressure and the weight of her kingdom on her shoulders and struggling with this call for her powers. That’s where she was, so for us, it really hadn’t come up in terms of what fit with where the story was growing. And we knew the end we wanted for her. So it just didn’t fit with where she was in her life. I don’t know if it’ll fit in the future. We haven’t asked that question, and I’m not stretching past Frozen 2 about what happens to these characters in their lives! [Laughs] But it’s just not where she was now.”

Many in the LGBTQ community saw Elsa’s megahit, “Let it Go” as her coming out story.

And sources tell We Got This Covered that the big reveal will happen in the threequel.  “The intention is for Elsa to have a girlfriend in the threequel, confirming her sexuality in the process.”

STRANGER THINGS RENEWED, CREATORS SIGN NINE-FIGURE DEAL: Netflix has renewed Stranger Things for a fourth season and signed creators Matt and Ross Duffer to a multi-year film and TV deal that many say is around nine figures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Three months ago, the third season of the sci-fi hit returned after a year off-air. “The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “We can’t wait to see what the Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of the Upside Down.” While the mega-streamer keeps numbers under wraps, Stranger Things is thought to be their most successful original.

LIL NAS X ANNOUNCES HE’S TAKING ‘A LITTLE TIME OFF’ – (09/30/2019)

Lil Nas X is taking some time for himself after a very successful year.

The 20-year-old star announced via Twitter on Friday that he’d be stepping away from the spotlight for awhile, which means he’s canceling two music festival appearances.

“It’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off,” Lil Nas tweeted. “Sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, I will not be there. I love u guys and will make it up to you some way.”

His fans seem totally accepting of his need for some “me” time, tweeting messages such as, “take care of yourself baby,”  “all good come back stronger” and “No worries homie get that rest.”

It’s been a busy year for Lil Nas.

After “Old Town Road” was controversially removed from Billboard’s Hot Country chart in April, the rapper recruited country star Billy Ray Cyrus to make a remix, and the revamped version went viral on the internet.

The remix made history by becoming the longest-running No. 1 single to ever top the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and Lil Nas X released more remixes with BTS member RM, Young Thug and Mason Ramsey, and even an Area 51 raid version.

The rapper also dropped his first EP, 7, in June and performed at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. “Old Town Road” won Song of the Year at the awards ceremony, and Lil Nas X was also nominated in eight other categories including video of the year and song of summer.

In the middle of all that, Little Nas came out as gay.

BILLIE EILISH ANNOUNCES 2020 WORLD TOUR – (09/30/2019)

Billie Eilish will be embarking on a worldwide arena tour in 2020 in support of her chart-topping debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Billie is partnering with the non-profit organization Reverb for the tour to help foster an eco-conscious environment backstage – and for her fans. As part of the effort, she’ll be allowing fans to bring their own re-fillable water bottles to the show and no plastic straws will be permitted.

The Where Do We Go? tour will begin in North America on March 9th in Miami. Eilish will also be performing in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville, St. Louis, Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle, among other cities. She will close out the North American leg on April 11th in Vancouver.

The singer will then move onto South America starting with a show in Guadalajara, Mexico on May 25th. She will also be visiting Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago, Chile and then Bogota, Columbia on June 7th.

The European and U.K. tour dates begin on July 9th in Spain at an arena that will be announced at a later date. Eilish will also be holding concerts in Lisbon, Portugal, Amsterdam, Berlin, Cologne, Milano, Paris, Werchter, Belgium, Manchester and Birmingham, before she wraps things up with two shows at the O2 arena in London on July 26-27. Tickets go on sale for the general public starting on October 4th.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old singer made her Saturday Night Live debut on Saturday. Billie performed her Billboard Hot 100 smash hit “Bad Guy,” as well as her When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? album track “I Love You” during the show. During “Bad Guy,” Billie performed inside of a rotating room that provided the effect of her climbing the walls. Billie was accompanied by her brother Finneas during her performance of “I Love You.”

Ahead of her SNL debut, Billie Eilish dropped by The Tonight Show to discuss her upcoming tour and to play a game of “True Confessions” with Jimmy Fallon.

After naming some of her musical influences – artists that range from Frank Sinatra to Tyler, the Creator – Eilish talked about her personal goal during the recording of her 2019 LP When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

“With the album, the one thing I was trying to do was, there were 14 songs on the album, and one of the goals I had was I wanted to make an album that I could put 14 people into a room that each had fully different tastes… and if I played them my album, each person would like at least one song.”

Eilish also stuck around to play a game of “True Confessions” with Fallon and Colin Quinn, with the singer revealing “I once farted in my friend’s mouth while she was yawning and she threw up”:

EDDIE MURPHY HORRIFIED BY SOME OF HIS OLD STAND-UP – (09/30/2019)

Eddie Murphy is unafraid of cancel culture, but he would like to hit delete on some his older material, he tells The New York Times in a sprawling interview. 

Murphy, 58, admitted in the profile that his 1987 standup special Raw was tough to watch now: “I was a young guy processing a broken heart, you know, kind of an a–hole.”

Murphy’s early work featured offensive racial, gender and homosexual stereotypes, and included jokes that mocked the AIDS epidemic. He apologized for his AIDS jokes in 1996, saying: “I deeply regret any pain all this has caused. Just like the rest of the world, I am more educated about AIDS in 1996 than I was in 1981. I think it is unfair to take the words of a misinformed 21-year-old and apply them to an informed 35-year-old man. I know how serious an issue AIDS is the world over. I know that AIDS isn’t funny. It’s 1996 and I’m a lot smarter about AIDS now.”

He can next be seen in Dolemite Is My Name, on Netflix, out October 4th. He’s proud of his new work.

“I didn’t want to just pop back up,” he said. “I wanted a funny movie to remind them that they liked me. This movie turned out so strong that I figured this is a great way to come back.”

Murphy can also be seen on SNL when he hosts October 25th…. And, much to fans’ delight, he’s working on a sequel to the 1988 megahit Coming to America.

JENNIFER LOPEZ, SHAKIRA TO PLAY SUPER BOWL LIV HALFTIME SHOW – (09/27/2019)

Jennifer Lopez and Shakria will perform at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show February 2nd in Miami, Pepsi announced.

The Lopez/Shakira team-up will mark the first time two Latina artists have performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.

The Super Bowl performance will be a follow-up to Lopez’s It’s My Party tour which doubled as a birthday celebration.

Recent musicians performing at halftime include Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Bruce Springsteen and Justin Timberlake, who has performed at the Super Bowl twice.

Pepsi has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show since 2012 and is contracted with the NFL through 2022. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation co-produces the halftime show.

Shakira is releasing a concert film of her El Dorado concert. Lopez is currently in theaters starring in Hustlers.

Acts including Billie Eilish, Usher, Lizzo, Coldplay, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and many others will perform in a 10-hour, globally broadcast, multi-location concert on September 26, 2020, as part of a year-long initiative titled, “Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream.”

Created in partnership with advisory firm Teneo, the globally broadcasted event will span five continents, taking place in New York, Nigeria, and other countries to be announced in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy Osbourne, Cyndi Lauper, Eddie Vedder and Muse are also among the artists confirmed to perform at the 10-hour, “Live Aid”-style concert that will be produced by Global Citizen.

Some of the confirmed co-hosts include Hugh Jackman, Idris Elba, Jill Vedder, Katie Holmes, Rachel Brosnahan and Trevor Noah, with more to be unveiled.

The event will benefit United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which aims at ending extreme poverty and tackling climate change. Complete lineups of performers and hosts for each location, and the rest of the locations themselves, will be announced in early 2020. Next year marks the 10-year countdown to achieve the United Nations Global Goals, a roadmap to end extreme poverty and reduce inequality by 2030.

Hailey Baldwin was determined to suck up her last sips of freedom … from a penis cup at her Bachelorette party, TMZ reports. Baldwin, BFF Kendall Jenner and several other pals were spotted living it up in L.A. for Mrs. Justin Bieber’s Bachelorette festivities, dining at Ysabel, then hitting the Delilah nightclub, all the while working phallic sippy cups. 

Baldwin rocked a strapless white dress, complete with a veil and diamond necklace that reads “Bieber.”

In a few days, Baldwin and Bieber will walk down the aisle (they’re officially got hitched in an NYC courtroom last September) in front of friends and family in South Carolina. The ceremony will be religious, as Christianity is important to both of them.

KIRSTEN DUNST WANTS TO BRING IT ON: Kirsten Dunst is totally ready for another Bring It On, she informed viewers of The Kelly Clarkson Show Thursday. She said the notion first occurred to her when she starred in a Rodarte campaign with former co-star Gabrielle Union. “I had no idea that Gabrielle was in it too and then it became, like, this whole Bring It On thing,” she explained to Kelly Clarkson. “I was like, listen, if they wanted to make another movie, I would make another movie. JUSTIN BIEBER PICKS HIS WEDDING SINGER: Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Bieber will have a wedding celebration at the end of this month, and they’ve apparently chosen their wedding singer: Canadian R&B crooner Daniel Caesar. TMZ reports that at the September 30th ceremony in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina, Caesar will serenade the couple’s family and friends after they have the religious ceremony they skipped last year. Caesar’s 2017 debut album Freudian went gold and earned him a number of Grammy nods. A track from the album, the H.E.R.-assisted collabo “Best Part,” won the Best R&B Performance trophy at the Grammys earlier this year. “Best Part” also topped Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs chart. Caesar’s new album Case Study 01 came out in June. It features appearances from Brandy, Pharrell Williams and John Mayer.

WHY CHARLIE SHEEN PASSED ON DWTS: Charlie Sheen, 54, was set to compete on season 28 of Dancing With the Stars, but ultimately walked, Us Weekly reports. He told the magazine: “I was very flattered by ABC and their offer, but at the end of the day, I have two left feet and I just can’t dance.” The opportunity was linked a pilot opportunity as well, but when he passed on DWTS, the network pulled the pilot as well. 

LAURA DERN, SAM NEILL & JEFF GOLDBLUM ARE IN FOR JURASSIC WORLD 3: Universal Pictures is bringing back Jurassic Park O.G.s for the third installation. KYLIE JENNER LANDS IN HOSPITAL WITH FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS – (09/26/2019)

Kylie Jenner landed in the hospital with serious flu-like symptoms, The Blast reports. Sources say she got admitted to a hospital in L.A. after being down for the count for days. Kylie is skipping her highly anticipated Balmain launch in Paris as a result. Kylie and Balmain announced their makeup collab earlier in the week, and she was expected at luxe Paris house’s fashion show Friday.

She shared her regrets on social media: “Hi guys! So as you know, I was getting ready to go to Paris for the Balmain show at Paris Fashion Week for the launch of my makeup collab with Olivier. Unfortunately, I’m really sick and unable to travel. I’m heartbroken to be missing this show, but I know that my amazing team, and my friends who are in town for the event, will help me be there in spirit. Creating this collection with Oliver has been a dream.” 

Kylie also skipped the Emmys on Sunday, when was scheduled to present with sisters Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Though with the frosty reception they received (the audience laughed at them when they claimed Keeping Up With the Kardashians was “unfiltered and unedited”) it may be better that she stayed home.

Unfortunately for Kim, the trolling was confined to the broadcast. Now, fans are accusing her of photoshopping her pics on Instagram as they compare her profile shots to reporters’ snaps on the red carpet.

LADY GAGA SURPRISES FAN WITH A MAKEUP TUTORIAL – (09/26/2019)

Lady Gaga teamed up with her makeup artist Sarah Tanno and Allure to give a superfan a personal makeup tutorial.

The fan, Brandon Galaz, a cosmetology student, thought he was just meeting with Sarah to test out Gaga’s new beauty brand Haus Laboratories, unaware that Gaga was going to be there too. Not only did he get some makeup tips from the duo, but he also got to read a personal letter he wrote to Gaga.

The letter details how Gaga’s song “Born This Way” inspired him to come out to his family. While he was reading, Gaga came up behind him, giving Brandon the surprise of his life. The two shared a hug and he finished reading his message, which brings Gaga to tears.

“This is why I do what I do. Thank you for sharing that. That’s so vulnerable. It’s so honest, it’s so real. Thank you,” Gaga said.

The two chatted about what makeup means to them and Gaga imparted some encouraging words. “It’s not how we look that makes us beautiful, right?” she tells Brandon. “It’s what we’ve been through and how we survive.”

Jennifer Lawrence shared her bridal registry on Amazon, and it has created quite a stir on social media. 

While many are squealing with delight over the detailed list, many others are bashing her on social media for “selling out” with an “obviously sponsored” list. Wrote one furious critic: “Jennifer Lawrence sells out! She’s getting married so she’s “collaborating” with Amazon on a wedding registry. No, she doesn’t get the gifts you pick out, you do. She just gets part of the cash.”

Here’s how she introduced it: “Planning a wedding is so exciting, but it can be overwhelming. For anyone else needing a little inspiration, I thought it would be fun to collaborate with Amazon to share a few of my favorite registry wish-list items. It’s so easy, and you can find everything you need all in one place.”

Items include a Yeti cooler, pasta machine, yoga mat, wine glasses and marble cheese slicer.

Adam Levine has a radical new ‘do!

The musician was spotted out in Los Angeles, California, Tuesday morning with a vastly different look, featuring shaved sides and cornrows.

The cornrows run from the top center of his forehead down to the back of his neck, ending in a rat’s tail. The sides of his head have been shaved.

It’s not the first time Levine has shaved the sides of his head — he sported a similar shave while rocking a mohawk during Season 16 of The Voice.

The new look comes amid a new phase for the 40-year-old Maroon 5 rocker, who just left his coaching gig on The Voice after eight seasons.

JENNA DEWAN IS PREGNANT! – (09/25/2019)

Jenna Dewan is expecting her first child with Steve Kazee. She shares a 6-year-old daughter with Channing Tatum, named Everly.

The actress and dancer, 38, shared her happy news with People: “We are beyond overjoyed and couldn’t be happier to be expanding our family!”

This will be a first child for Kazee, 43. Kazee and Dewan were first linked in October of 2018, but they reportedly got together a few months before that.  

Dewan has been a busy bee of late: she recently starred in Fox’s medical drama The Resident, will next be seen on Netflix’s Soundtrack, and is publishing her wellness book Gracefully You on October 22nd. 

On Instagram she described the book thusly: “It’s all about learning to connect deeply and find happiness in every aspect of your life through all the ups and downs. It’ll be full of stories and photos from my life, as well as suggestions for home, health and relationships to help you live your best life.”

Lewis Capaldi is offering free concert tickets to fans who match him on Tinder.

Images of the Scottish singer’s Tinder profile have been posted on billboards across the U.K., and if you match with him, you’ll have a chance to win a trip to see him live in New York City – or win tickets to his upcoming U.K. tour.

The two singers are both up for awards for their collaborations with other Latin artists. MARIAH CAREY TO RELEASE ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF ‘MERRY CHRISTMAS’ ALBUM – (09/24/2019)

Mariah Carey announced that she will be releasing a 25th anniversary edition of her hit holiday album Merry Christmas on November 1st.

The anniversary edition will come with two CD’s and feature the original album, a bonus disc of remixes, unreleased live tracks from Carey’s 1994 performance at St. John the Divine, a new rendition of “Sugar Plum Fairy,” photos, a note from Carey and Christmas decorations.

Merry Christmas, released in 1994, features Carey’s hit song “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The track is the most downloaded holiday single of all time.

The 49-year-old made the announcement on Instagram with a video of herself talking about the release while writing on a mirror using lipstick.

In honor of Sunday’s 25th anniversary of the debut of Friends, The Jonas Brothers did an elaborate recreation of the opening segment, repurposing the video for their comeback single “Sucker.”

Nick, Joe and Kevin join wives Priyanka Chopra, Sophie Turner and Danielle Jonas for a fun run around a castle, all against the backdrop of Friends theme song “I’ll Be There For You.” Each Jonas Brother and their wives get a “Friends”-style credit on the screen.

The group posted the results on Instagram with the caption: “The One Where The Band Got Back Together. Happy 25th anniversary @FRIENDS! #Friends25.”

Meanwhile, Joe wasn’t able to accompany Sophie to the Emmy Awards on Sunday due to the group’s Happiness Begins tour, but he did pay tribute to her on his Instagram stories, writing, “I am so proud of you. You are nominated for an Emmy! You are incredible. I love you.”

Nick, meanwhile, wrote, “8 seasons of brilliant work. Congrats on your Emmy nomination…rooting for you tonight.”

Sophie was up for Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, but she lost to Ozark star Julie Garner.

HOW DID KIM KARDASHIAN AND KENDALL JENNER FEEL ABOUT BEING LAUGHED AT DURING EMMYS? – (09/24/2019)

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner presented an award during the 2019 Emmys, and honestly, it was pretty awkward for everyone involved. 

It seems that the people in the audience either thought Kim was joking, or thought her comments were so ridiculous they up and laughed in her face. Here’s what she said that got them guffawing: “Our family knows firsthand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves.”

Kendall, meanwhile, described what must be the most airbrushed and polished reality show of all time, “unfiltered and unscripted.” 

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars stood there stiffly as the laughter continued. A source tells Us Weekly that the pair weren’t “briefed” beforehand that the script was “a joke.” The insider admits: “it was definitely a bit awkward.”

JON HAAM DITCHED SEAT AT EMMYS AFTER OPENING: Jon Hamm skipped most of the Emmy Awards to hang backstage, Page Six reports. The Mad Men alum was seated next to Brad Falchuk and Gwyneth Paltrow, but after the opening, opted to chill in the Lindt Chocolate Lounge all night. He wasn’t alone; Empire star Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson and Gwendoline Christie were also spotted backstage, as was Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. (Page Six)  

MILEY CYRUS STALKER ARRESTED: A fan obsessed with Miley Cyrus was arrested in Las Vegas when he showed up at her iHeartRadio performance. David Rumsey was on her team’s watch list for previous threats, and when they noticed him in the audience and snagged him, he told her team, “It’s my life’s mission to impregnate Miley,” TMZ reports. He is still currently in custody. (TMZ)

‘FLEABAG’ AND ‘GAME OF THRONES’ WIN BIG AT 2019 EMMYS – (09/23/2019)

Fleabag and Game of Thrones won the Best Comedy and Best Drama at  the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 22nd.) The stars converged at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. for TV’s biggest night. The show went host-free, following Oscars’ lead, but there were still many Hollywood moments.

The party got started with a cartoon Homer Simpson literally doing a face-plant onstage, and Anthony Andersonrushing onto stage and declaring, “We will not let the Empire fall!” as he ran about mock-organizing the show backstage and dinging Game of Thrones with a Starbucks coffee reference. Then Bryan Cranstonc ame onstage to wax philosophical about the current state of TV, declaring “it’s never been better.”

Going in, HBO’s Game of Thrones led the pack, garnering 32 nominations. Next up was Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with 20 nominations. All told, HBO snagged an amazing 137 nominations. Netflix nipped at its heels with 117.

Ultimately,Fleabag won big time, snagging Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress for Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Outstanding Directing. Game of Thrones also brought home gold, landing Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage. Chernobyl triumphed with three awards, Outstanding Limited Series trophy as well as writing and directing awards.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Alex Borstein gave an inspiring acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, thanking the show’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, but also her mother and 102-year-old grandmother, a Holocaust survivor who dared to “step out of line” and escape death at her concentration camp. Before she walked onstage, the camera zoomed in on her doing a shot.

A clearly delighted Phoebe Waller-Bridge told the crowd that she was just excited that a “dirty, pervy” woman can win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing.

Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert joke that “this show sucks” without a host, but they seem to hit a nerve online.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in what many saw as a surprising upset for Julie Louis-Dreyfus, who was accepted to win for her final season of Veep.

The audience seemed to guffaw when Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner came onstage and pretended Keeping Up With the Kardashians is 100% “unscripted” and “unfiltered.” Said Kardashian: “Our family knows first-hand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves.”

Rupaul gave an upbeat speech thanking everyone for the Outstanding Competiton Program award, and seguing into a push for viewers to register to vote.

The cast of Game of Thrones reunited onstage to present the award for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie. Patricia Arquette graciously accepted the award, then addressed her sister Alexis Arquette’s death. “I just have to say I’m grateful to be working, I’m grateful at 50 to be getting the best parts of my life, and that’s great,” Arquette said. “But in my heart, I’m so sad. I lost my sister Alexis, and that trans people are still being persecuted, and I’m in mourning every day of my life.”

Jharrel Jerome got the audience as excited—on its feet and clapping excited—as he was with his from-the-heart speech, thanking his mother and When They See Us’ creator, Ava DuVernay for his win as lead actor. He also addressed the men the series was about, who DuVernay brought as her guests. “Most importantly, this is for the men that we know as the Exonerated Five. Thank you so much. It’s an honor; it’s a blessing,” Jerome concluded, as the audience rose to their feet and applauded.

Emmys commentator Thomas Lennon raised eyebrows online when he gave Felicity Huffman a shout-out. He didn’t name names, but referred to any ex-Emmy winning stars who may be watching from prison. He said: “Hopefully those two weeks are going to fly by.” Huffman, who won an Emmy in 2005 for Desperate Housewives, has been sentenced to two weeks in prison for her role in the college bribery scandal.

While accepting her award as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series, Michelle Williams thanked her bosses in Fosse/Verde for not only paying her equally, but also listening to her when she made expensive requests and not “presuming to know more” than she did about her own needs. “I see this as an acknowledgement of what is possible when a woman is trusted to discern her own needs, feels safe enough to voice them and respected enough that they’ll be heard,” she said.

John Oliver thanked his dog for “letting us give him belly rubs” and helping to produce “that piece on the Senate filibuster” when he accepted the award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.

Billy Porter gave a humble, emotional speech while accepting the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, thanking Pose’s creator Ryan Murphy and calling on all actors to change the “molecular structure” of the country through empathetic and thoughtful portrayals.

Jodie Comer won lead actress for Killing Eve, against Sandra Oh, who was considered a front-runner (and co-stars with her in the same show).

Phoebe Waller-Bridge seemed unable to believe her good fortune after winning Outstanding Comedy Series.

Game of Thrones gave a gracious adieu to the series and the Emmys after winning Outstanding Drama Series.

BEN STILLER AND CHRISTINE TAYLOR WALK RED CARPET TOGETHER: Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor walked the Emmys red carpet together Sunday night. Eyebrows were raised because the pair split in 2017 after 17 years of marriage. This isn’t the first time they’ve been spotted together in public post-split, but this is the first formal event they’ve attended together. (The Blast) 

TAYLOR SWIFT SCRAPS MELBOURNE CUP APPEARANCE – (09/23/2019)

Animal activists are taking credit for Taylor Swift’s last-minute Melbourne Cup scratching in Australia.

Swift had been slated to perform two songs from her latest album Lover at Flemington Racecourse on November 5th. But less than two weeks after the performance was announced, Swift pulled out, citing scheduling problems.

“Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here,” promoter Michael Gudinski said in a statement on Saturday.

The cancellation came after an intense backlash from animal activists, who call on social media for the star to say #NupToTheCup. “The pressure on Taylor Swift to cancel her performance was significant. Her fans did not want to see her supporting animal abuse,” Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses spokeswoman Kristin Leigh said, following Swift’s about-turn. “Whilst the reason being used by the racing industry is a scheduling mix up, it appears to us that she has responded to those calls. After Swift’s performance was announced, animal rights group Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses called on Swift to cancel as part of their #NupToTheCup campaign, pointing to the deaths of numerous horses during the race.

One group, the Coalition of the Protection of Racehorses, even shared a Change.org petition earlier this month urging Taylor to back out of her performance.

The Victoria Racing Club says the cancellation is disappointing and is offering refunds to people who purchased cup tickets after Swift’s performance was announced on September 12th.

Last year, Irish racehorse The Cliffsofmoher was euthanized on the racetrack after fracturing its shoulder, becoming the sixth horse to die at the event since 2013. The death sparked outrage online, and the #NupToTheCup hashtag subsequently on Twitter.

In the U.S., PETA issued a statement saying, “Taylor Swift dumped the Melbourne Cup, and PETA couldn’t be happier. The event is riddled with horse breakdowns and death…none of this cruelty is consistent with the kind person we know Taylor to be.”

While Taylor has not explicitly spoken out about any additional reasoning behind her cancellation, fans are praising her decision on social media and thanking the singer for pulling out of the event.
