TAYLOR SWIFT WINS BIG AT MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS 2019 – (08/27/2019)

Taylor Swift took over the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards last night.

MTV went live from New Jersey last night for the show, hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco. The event included performances from Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Miley Cyrus and Lil Nas X, while Missy Elliott was presented with the Video Vanguard Award.

Swift called out the White House after she won the top prize – Video of the Year – for her LGBTQ pride anthem, “You Need To Calm Down.” She opened the show at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with a performance of the hit song. Swift was flanked by colorful dancers, and then brought it back to her roots by bringing out her guitar to sing the title track of her new album Lover.

The words “Equality Act” were shown over the 29-year-old singer’s performance, a reference to her support of the Equality Act legislation that would prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. After winning the top prize Taylor and a number of cast members from the video appeared onstage to accept the honor.

The video for “You Need to Calm Down” — which also won the Video For Good Honor — finishes with the words: “Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.”

Swift was tied with Ariana Grande as the most nominated artist of the night, up for 10 awards. Taylor ended up with three, snagging Video of the Year and Video For Good for “You Need To Calm Down,” and Best Visual Effects for her “ME!” hit featuring Brendon Urie. Ariana took home Artist of the Year, Best Direction for “thank you, next,” Best Art Direction for “7 Rings,” and Song of Summer for “Boyfriend,” her hit with Social House.

Other Highlights:
Host Sebastian Maniscalco’s VMAs monologue was savaged on twitter. Maniscalco started off ok, praising Jersey legend Bruce Springsteen, however, he didn’t mention the Jonas Brothers, who are also from Jersey and in the middle of a triumphant comeback. But things got cringey. Maniscalco joked about iPhones and influencers – in an arena full of influencers. Then he directly mocked millennials’ perceived “sensitivity” and the idea of “trigger warnings.”

Rapper French Montana took a moment to address his thoughts on immigration before presenting the award for Best Latin. “I am so proud to pronounce this award because as an immigrant, I feel like we are the people that make this country and I feel like I wanna be the voice,” he told the audience. Montana, who is from Morocco, went on to describe the nominees as immigrants and urged the audience to “check them out.” The award went to Rosalía and J Balvin for “Con Altura.”

While presenting the Video of the Year award with Queen Latifah, John Travolta said, “I shouldn’t do this because I’ll just mispronounce s**t and f**k it up,” before handing the envelope to her. Travolta famously mispronounced Tony Award-winning actress/singer Idina Menzel on the Oscars stage as “Adele Dazeem.” And while he didn’t mispronounce Taylor Swift’s name when she won the VMA, the internet still thinks he flubbed it by attempting to give the award to Jade Jolie, Taylor’s drag queen double, instead of the singer herself.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello made their first public appearance as a couple and the pair performed their hit “Señorita” together for the first time. During the performance, there was romantic lights, arm stroking, dancing and almost kissing – but even though they didn’t deliver an onstage smooch, they were seen cuddling in the audience and getting cozy during the show.

Miley Cyrus performed her new breakup ballad “Slide Away” for the first time last night. During her performance Cyrus showed off her new tattoo – an emotional lyric from the Pixies’ song “The Thing” inked on her bicep – that was seemingly inspired by her split from Liam Hemsworth. The tattoo reads: “My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free.”

The show closed down with an energetic, all-star tribute to the Garden State’s native hip-hop legends. Newark native Ice-T took the stage to set it up and gave a quick verse of his 1986 gangsta rap classic “6 ‘n the Mornin’.” Then Naughty by Nature’s Vin Rock amped the crowd up with a chorus of “jump, jump” as Treach and a hype man in a bear costume gave the crowd a taste of “O.P.P.” before Lords of the Underground’s DoItAll set up Redman for a verse of “Da Rockwilder.” The action moved over to Fetty Wap, who busted out some “Trap Queen.” Wyclef Jean strummed a guitar for a verse of his solo single “Gone Til November” and a nod to Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry,” with a slight tweak of the lryics to move the government yard from Trenchtown to Jersey. The state’s unofficial royalty, Queen Latifah, drove up to the stage on a motorcycle before rocking out to “U.N.I.T.Y.” The number ended with a group jam of “Hip Hop Hooray.”

CHRISTINA AGUILERA BECOMES A DISNEY LEGEND – (08/26/2019)

Christina Aguilera was honored as a Disney Legend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, on Friday and she surprised the audience by performing “Reflection” from 1998’s Mulan.

“This is way cooler than a Grammy, I just have to say!” she told the cheering crowd during her acceptance speech. “Thank you, [Disney CEO] Bob Iger. This is tremendous. You don’t understand. I may be the ultimate Disney fan.” She added, “Thank you so much for this amazing honor. I love this. This is so special, I’m like shaking… I’ve been holding back tears all day.”

Christina talked about how she started her career on the Mickey Mouse Club with the likes of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and discussed recording “Reflection,” which coincided with her first record deal.

About “Reflections,” which was released in 1998 to coincide with the release of “Mulan,” she said she has carried the message of the song throughout her entire career.  “It’s an important message that promotes to live your truth,” she said. “It’s all in the lyrics. To live your truth, to show who you are, to be brave, to be a fighter. And now these are messages that I can pass on to my own son and daughter, who are fans of the movie. The messages still hold true and they’re timeless. It’s not your gender or anything outside yourself that defines you. What defines you is who you are inside.”

Now, she says she shares the world of Disney with her children.

“To snuggle with my kids on the couch and just be under blankets and be captivated by these amazing worlds that Disney creates is so incredible,” Christina said. “The world of Disney has made me feel like anything was possible at that young of an age. If I could imagine it, I could do it.”

Christina is busy touring now and performing at her residency in Las Vegas. “There are more shows coming up in September,” she teased. “Gonna be so much fun, and now I have more stories to tell whenever I sing ‘Reflection.’”

Also inducted as Disney Legends were Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Ming-Na Wen.

TAYLOR SWIFT PERFORMS ‘YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN’ ON ‘GMA’; TALKS IN HER ‘LOVER’S LOUNGE’ – (08/23/2019)

Taylor Swift performed live on Good Morning America Thursday, giving fans a high-energy concert that took place at Central Park in New York City.

The stage was filled with pink and white flowers. Swift kicked things off by performing “You Need To Calm Down” from her new album Lover. Swift then launched into “ME!,” also from Lover, followed by an older song, “Shake It Off” from her 2014 album 1989.

Swift sat down with GMA’s Robin Roberts before the concert to discuss Lover and her plans to re-record her older albums in 2020 so that she can own the recordings. She said:

[“I think that artists deserve to own their own work. I just feel very passionately about that.”]

Roberts also mentioned that Lover is already close to reaching one million copies sold through pre-sales. Lover arrives today and the music video for the album’s title song dropped yesterday. Some of the clothing featured in Taylor’s video is from her new collaboration with Stella McCartney.

In a YouTube live stream right before the video premiered, Taylor revealed that the inspiration behind the video’s concept was a lyric from her song “You Are in Love,” from her 1989 album. On that song, she sings, “And so it goes, you two are dancing in a snow globe ‘round and ‘round.”

The clip features Taylor and her love interest, played by one of her tour dancers, Christian Owens, acting out different scenes in color-coordinated rooms of what looks like a dollhouse. Like the lyric, the entire video takes place within a snow globe.

Also during the live feed, called “Lover’s Lounge,” Taylor Swift sat on a couch surrounded by her band while performing her song “The Archer” live for the first time.

Meanwhile, Taylor also announced that she will be opening the 2019 MTV VMAs next Monday live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This is the first time Taylor will be returning to the VMAs stage since her 2015 performance of “Bad Blood.” Taylor Swift is up for 10 awards – including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Video For Good for her songs “ME!” and “You Need to Calm Down.”

Taylor has teamed with Apple for “Music Lab: Remix Taylor Swift,” a new initiative that will teach fans how to remix “You Need to Calm Down” using the iPhone app GarageBand. Starting today, fans can sign up to attend a Music Lab session at select Apple Stores worldwide, where they will “receive firsthand encouragement and inspiration” from Taylor via video and then learn how to deconstruct and create their own unique versions of the song.

MILEY CYRUS SLAMS ALLEGATIONS THAT SHE CHEATED ON LIAM HEMSWORTH IN EPIC TWITTER RANT – (08/23/2019)

After Liam Hemsworth filed for divorce from Miley Cyrus Wednesday, Miley took to Twitter to defend herself against rumors that her infidelity was the reason for their split.

Cyrus posted a lengthy statement admitting to many things in her past including using drugs and partying, but she wants to make one thing clear – she did not cheat on Hemsworth and cheating did not break up her marriage.

“But the truth is, once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it, & I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP,” Miley wrote in a portion of her statement on Twitter. “I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”

“BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking , foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar,” she continued.

One of the things Miley ‘fessed up to includes revealing that she was let go from voice-starring in the Sony animated title Hotel Transylvania after photos surfaced online of her posing with a penis-shaped birthday cake that she purchased for Hemsworth, who was her boyfriend at the time.

“I lost a massive Walmart deal at 17 for ripping a bong. I got kicked off Hotel Transylvania for buying Liam a penis cake for his birthday and licking it. I swung on a wrecking ball naked. There are probably more nudes of me on the internet than maybe any woman in history,” she tweeted.

EMMA WATSON AND TOM FELTON FUEL DATING RUMORS – (08/20/2019)

Emma Watson and Tom Felton have been friends since childhood, but many think that after playing booksmart heroine Hermione Granger and villain Draco Malfoy, their Harry Potter-spawned relationship blossomed into something more.

Felton, 31, recently shared a shot of himself and Watson, 29, in South Africa playing guitar while wearing PJs.

“Quick learner x,” Felton captioned the shot.

Fans took in the news with glee. “Just so you know, the little fangirl part in me just hyperventilated thanks to you guys,” one commenter wrote.

“My dramione wishes has been granted,” another added with the pair’s ship name, while another commenter suggested, “Hell yeah FELTSON.”

The pair have stoked romance rumors before on Instagram. Adding fuel to the fire, she admitted in a 2012 interview to being obsessed with him.

She said: “Between the ages of 10 and 12 I had a really terrible crush on Tom Felton. We love a bad guy, and he was a few years older and he had a skateboard and that just did it really,” Watson gushed at the time. “He used to do tricks on it. He was so cool. TAYLOR SWIFT SINGS ‘YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN’ A CAPPELLA IN NEW COMMERCIAL – (08/20/2019)

You can now hear Taylor Swift singing with no musical background at all.

In a new commercial for Amazon Music, an animation of Taylor’s disembodied lips flutters through a garden of blooming flowers, plants, butterflies, a snake and a cat statue, while singing an a cappella version of “You Need to Calm Down.” As they sing, the lips change from red, to purple, to rainbow, to sprinkle-covered, to glitter.

“Alexa, play the new Taylor Swift on Amazon Music,” says a voiceover, followed by the regular version of the song.

“A voice is all you need,” reads the tagline. Taylor captioned the video, “@amazonmusic: what color lips would you like for this commercial? Me: yes.”

Sharp-eyed fans notice yet another Easter egg in the ad. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the ad, one butterfly’s wings spell out “Cruel Summer,” which is a track on Swift’s new album, Lover, which arrives Friday.

The “Cruel Summer” butterfly is black and white in a video that is full of color, leading to further suspicions: will the song reference the theme or time period of Swift’s Reputation album – as one fan on Twitter pointed out: “Why does the Cruel Summer butterfly look like it’s still living in the rep era?”

“Cruel Summer” was also an Easter egg in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video – Ellen DeGeneres is seen getting tattooed with the phrase.

No details have been confirmed about “Cruel Summer,” other than it being the second song on Lover’s tracklist, but its appearance in the clip has left many speculating that it could be an upcoming single.

Taylor will perform on ABC’s Good Morning America Thursday.

HARRY STYLES PASSES ON PLAYING PRINCE ERIC IN ‘LITTLE MERMAID’ – (08/14/2019)

Harry Styles won’t be playing the role of Prince Eric in the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid after all.

Styles had been in talks to play the part for about a month, but People said Tuesday he is no longer in negotiations with Disney. “While he is a fan of the project, he has respectfully declined the offer,” a rep told People.

On Tuesday, both AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas inaccurately tweeted that Styles had been cast in the role. Both theater chains later deleted the tweets.

Halle Bailey is set to play the titular heroine in the movie musical, which re-imagines the 1989 cartoon classic. Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina will co-star. ABC is also planning a separate live-action TV event of The Little Mermaid featuring Auli’i Cravalho, Queen Latifah and Shaggy.

JAY-Z PARTNERS UP WITH THE NFL – (08/14/2019)

JAY-Z and the NFL have inked a new partnership. According to The Washington Post, Hov and Roc Nation will select the musical acts for the Super Bowl. The mogul will also assist in the NFL’s social justice endeavors.

The agreement will make JAY’s Roc Nation a co-producer of the Super Bowl halftime show, however, it does not suggest if the rapper will be performing himself.

NFL commissioner, Roger Goddell said, “He was very quick to say that he does not want this to be about him performing, that it was broader than that. It quickly went beyond that. Do I hope he’ll perform in the Super Bowl sometime in the next several years? Yes. But I think we’ll all know if that time comes. He’ll know in particular.”

Roc Nation will also choose who will perform throughout the NFL season.

JAY-Z expressed to the ‘Post’ that he believes the NFL will allow him and Roc Nation to have the freedom to produce the type of entertainment that they want. He said on the new partnership, “I think we have autonomy. I anticipate that there will be a lot of — with any big organization, in this building right here we have internal problems. Anything that’s new is going to go through its growing pains. We put what we want to do on the table. The NFL agreed to it. So we’re gonna proceed with that as if we have a partnership.”

As for the community activism portion of JAY-Z and the NFL’s partnership, that will be intertwined with the organization’s existing “Inspire Change” program with its players, which according to The New York Times, “donates money to groups fighting for criminal justice reform, opportunities in economically challenged areas and better relations between the police and local communities.”

It’s worth noting that JAY has been very vocal in his stance for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. He recently said in an interview with the ’Times,’ “The N.F.L. has a great big platform, and it has to be all-inclusive. They were willing to do some things, to make some changes, that we can do some good.”

Commissioner Goodell added that the new alliance with JAY-Z will allow room for changes to be implemented within the league. He said in an interview, “We don’t want people to come in and necessarily agree with us; we want people to come in and tell us what we can do better. I think that’s a core element of our relationship between the two organizations, and with Jay and I personally.”

The “long-term partnership,” according to ESPN, will officially be announced on Wednesday (Aug. 14).
