LADY GAGA SAYS OSCAR NODS MAKE HER ‘HEART EXPLODE’ – (01/24/2019)

Lady Gaga received two Oscar nominations on Tuesday: Best Actress for A Star Is Born, and Best Original Song for “Shallow,” also from A Star Is Born. She’s the first person to be nominated in those two categories in the same year – and she is just a little emotional about it.

“I think sometimes people forget that even though this is a big movie, we’re all really artists that are like kids playing in a sandbox,” she tells The Los Angeles Times. “To be recognized at this level just makes the heart explode, because truly and deeply, I still very much feel like a child with big dreams.”

Gaga also commented on the fact that her co-star Bradley Cooper wasn’t nominated for Best Director, seen by many as a major snub by the Academy.

“At the end of the day, he knows that he’s the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast,” she explains. “I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition.”

Gaga was previously nominated for co-writing the song “Til It Happens to You” from the documentary The Hunting Ground.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has been announced as a presenter at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. She joins Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman, Bradley Cooper, Adam Driver, Sam Elliott, Henry Golding, Ben Hardy, Ken Jeong, Gwilym Lee, Rami Malek, Joe Mazzello, John David Washington, Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh, who are also set to take the stage during the ceremony.

Gaga, Cooper and Elliott are nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category for A Star Is Born.

ARIANA GRANDE REVEALS ‘THANK U, NEXT’ ALBUM COVER – (01/24/2019)

Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive.

After unveiling her thank u, next tracklist ahead of schedule Tuesday, Ariana Grande surprised fans by dropping the album cover early.

Ari took to her Twitter yesterday to share the brand new cover, which she says is her favorite yet. “this is my fav album cover i think. brian painted me. fredo shot me. made with tru, deep friendship and love. just like this music,” Ariana wrote.

She added, “she still upside-down. but this time she kinda ……… f*cks w it lol… OH AND i’m sleeping again. which means you’re gonna love it.”

The new album is set to feature 12 songs, including the already released “Imagine,” “Thank U, Next,” and “7 rings.”

Much like her Sweetener cover, this one also features an upside-down photo of Ari. In the pic, a seemingly topless Ari hugs herself while sporting a fierce cat eye and a vampy dark lip. The words “thank u, next” are painted across her neck and chest.

BRENDON URIE TEASES PANIC! AT THE DISCO ON BROADWAY – (01/24/2019)

A recent post on the Panic! At The Disco’s Instagram hints at a potential Broadway run for the band. The photo shows front man Brendon Urie holding a playbill based on Panic!’s most recent album, Pray For The Wicked.

According to Alt Press, Urie revealed that he has been discussing ideas for his own musicals with film directors. “I’ve been talking to a couple of movie directors about film music ideas and about doing musical theatre, Broadway maybe,” Urie says, “The ideal would be to write music for an idea somebody else has come up with.”

Urie has already made a successful debut as an actor in Broadway’s Kinky Boots. However, his current musical ideas are “about doing my origin story, growing up in Vegas, so we will see what happens.”

However, the posted Playbill is just a piece of fan art, a gift from Prudential Center, where the band played at on January 18th. The band received a book with messages from fans and fan art inside, including the “Playbill.”

BIGGEST SNUBS AND WINS FROM 2019 OSCAR NOMINATIONS – (01/23/2019)

While there were many celebrated films this year, there wasn’t an obvious front-runner for Best Picture, so the always eagerly-anticipated Academy Awards nominations were even more closely watched than usual Tuesday morning.

THE NOMINATIONS

Roma and The Favourite led the pack, with 10 nominations each. A Star Is Born and Vice followed with two apiece. Black Panther nabbed seven nods, and made history as the first comic book movie to be in contention for Best Picture.

Spike Lee’s BlackKklansman earned six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, both firsts for Lee.

SNUBS

There were the usual snubs as well. One of the biggest was Bradley Cooper, who got passed over in the directing category for A Star Is Born, which has raked in more than $400M worldwide. As Variety points out, the Academy often skips over successful actor-directors; he joins Barbra Streisand (Yentl), Ben Affleck (Argo) and Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) whose directing work didn’t get recognized.

For acting awards, Timothee Chalamet got skipped for his work in Beautiful Boy. Plus, no actors from Black Panther got nods. Many thought Ethan Hawke was a shoe-in for his critically acclaimed work in First Reformed, but nope. Emily Blunt also got skipped over for her work in Mary Poppins Returns and A Quiet Place.

Damien Chazelle’s First Man, starring Claire Foy and Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, got shut out completely from the main categories.

The ceremony, which is host-less after Kevin Hart stepped down, will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

JUSTIN & HAILEY BIEBER DELAY WEDDING AGAIN: Justin and Hailey Bieber just can’t find the perfect day to celebrate their union; TMZ reports that the 300 people who received their latest save the date card were told the party is being rescheduled. They learned that some of their closest friends couldn’t make the date (also Justin’s 25th birthday), so they’re looking for a better one. The pair are already married, this is just a celebratory formality, though they will reportedly have a second ceremony. (TMZ)

ARIANA GRANDE REVEALS TRACK LIST FOR UPCOMING ALBUM – (01/23/2019)

Ariana Grande is getting closer and closer to releasing her upcoming album, thank u, next, and she just revealed the tracklist.

The 25-year-old singer will have 12 songs on the album and there are no featured artists on any of the tracks. The track list was revealed on the Instagram account for her previous album Sweetener, which was released back in August 2018.

The new album’s release date will be revealed on Friday, when the cover artwork and presale link go live.

Theitle track “Thank U, Next” was released as the lead single November 3rd and Grande dropped an accompanying music video that referenced classic films like Mean Girls, 13 Going on 30 and Legally Blonde on November 30th. The album’s second single, “7 rings,” dropped January 18th along with a music video.

Grande is up for two Grammy awards at the 2019 ceremony, for Best Pop Solo Performance for “God Is A Woman” and best pop vocal album for Sweetener. She’s scheduled to headline Coachella in April, and it is rumored that she’s also been booked for Lollapalooza.

GLADYS KNIGHT TO SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT SUPER BOWL LIII – (01/18/2019)

Music legend Gladys Knight has signed on to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at next month’s Super Bowl in Atlanta.

“Atlanta, I’m coming home! #NFL #SBLIII,” Knight tweeted Thursday morning, along with a promotional poster for the February 3rd event. The NFL also announced Knight would help kick off the game.

Maroon 5 was confirmed last weekend as the headliner for the professional football game’s halftime show. Travis Scott and Big Boi are expected to be guest performers.

Following the announcement, Knight has shared a statement in response to Variety’s “question about her stance on the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick,” the former NFL quarterback and political activist who’s been blacklisted from the league due to his peaceful protests against police brutality.

“I understand that Mr. Kaepernick is protesting two things, and they are police violence and injustice,” Knight said in her statement to Variety. “It is unfortunate that our National Anthem has been dragged into this debate when the distinctive senses of the National Anthem and fighting for justice should each stand alone.”

She also tied in her longtime activism and called for unity: “I am here today and on Sunday, February 3rd to give the Anthem back its voice, to stand for that historic choice of words, the way it unites us when we hear it and to free it from the same prejudices and struggles I have fought long and hard for all my life, from walking back hallways, from marching with our social leaders, from using my voice for good – I have been in the forefront of this battle longer than most of those voicing their opinions to win the right to sing our country’s Anthem on a stage as large as the Super Bowl LIII.”

Several other music events are scheduled leading up to the Big Game. On Saturday, February 2nd, Rolling Stone hosts Rolling Stone Live: Atlanta at Goat Farm Arts Center, which features performances by Ludacris and Young Thug, as well as Gunna and Lil Keed. The event will also showcase DJ sets from the Roots’ Questlove. Meanwhile, Aerosmith, Bruno Mars and Cardi B are set to perform during the three-day Super Bowl Music Fest.

CAMILA CABELLO, CARDI B, SHAWN MENDES, POST MALONE AMONG FIRST GRAMMY PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED: The first round of performers for next month’s Grammy Awards has been announced. Nominees Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Dan + Shay, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe and country star Kacey Musgraves will all take the stage February 10th, as Alicia Keys hosts the ceremony live from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. ‘BIRD BOX’ UNDER FIRE FOR USING REAL FOOTAGE OF FATAL TRAIN DISASTER – (01/18/2019)

Netflix is being slammed over its use of footage from a real-life tragedy in the fictional hit Bird Box. The giant streamer says it has no plans to remove the footage, which appears early on in a movie.

The fatal accident occurred in Canada in 2013, and killed more than 40 people when a train carrying crude oil derailed in a town outside of Quebec. In addition to several dozen fatalities, dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed.

The mayor of Lac-Megantic, Julie Morin, told local reporters “we are looking for assurances from Netflix that. . . they are going to remove them. You can be sure we are going to follow up on this, and our citizens are on our side.”

Netflix is not the first outlet to use footage from the tragedy in a fictional depiction. The sci-fi drama Travelers used stock footage of the incident in a Season 3 episode.

KATHERINE SCHWARZENEGGER PREDICTED HER RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIS PRATT; ANNA FARIS REACTS – (01/16/2019)

Please Note: This story uses quotes from Anna Faris’ “Unqualified” podcast.

Katherine Schwarzenegger seemed to have a good feeling about current fiancé Chris Pratt, well before they first met. (To be fair, many women probably shared that feeling, but still…)

In an unearthed interview with Access from August 2017, a full 10 months before the pair were first linked by enterprising paparazzi, the 29-year-old Rock What You’ve Got author expressed a preference for Pratt among the famous Chris trio (the other options, of course, being Evans or Hemsworth), after a little hemming and hawing.

Chris Evans,” she said, but then changed her mind. “Actually, Chris Pratt,” she concluded. “Chris Pratt’s been looking good lately, so you never know.”

The pair were first photographed together in June of 2018 on a picnic in Santa Barbara. They got engaged over the weekend; he proposed with a stunning oval diamond that reportedly cost upwards of $400K.

“Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes!” Pratt, 39, captioned an Instagram picture of them Sunday, January 13. “I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”

ANNA FARIS

So how did he tell his ex-wife Anna Faris that he was moving on when they just signed their divorce papers in 2017?

On Tuesday’s Anna Faris Is Unqualified, she broke it down.

“Chris texted me this morning and he was like, you know, ‘I proposed to Katherine last night,'” she recalled. “I was like ‘Ah! That’s amazing.’

She then reminded him that’s she’s available to officiate.

“And I texted him back, ‘Just want to remind you, I’m an ordained minister,'” she said, joking she’s “not very good at it.”

Faris seems pretty chill about it, TBH.

“I knew that it was going to happen,” she said at one point. “I love her, and I love him, and I’m just so happy that they found each other.”

The pair co-parent Jack, 6.

RIHANNA SUING HER FATHER FOR EXPLOITING ‘FENTY’ NAME – (01/16/2019)

Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father, Ronald Fenty, and his company called, Fenty Entertainment, for exploiting her name for monetary gain. According to The Blast, a lawsuit was filed on Tuesday (January 15th) in California federal court. Rih claims that her father started a talent development company in 2017 called Fenty Entertainment to capitalize off of her Fenty trademark.

The singer, however, has already trademarked “Fenty” for use in her business ventures, including her Fenty Beauty line. She claims that her father and his business partner, Moses Jordan Perkins, falsely advertised themselves as her reps and booked a $15 million tour in Latin America, and two shows at the Staples Center in LA and the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas for $400,000 in December 2017, without her consent.

Rih says that she is not involved with Fenty Entertainment, and that “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.” She added that her father claimed to have gotten approval from her label, Roc Nation, before booking, but Rihanna argues that no one at the label knew about the tour.

Rihanna also said that her father unsuccessfully tried to file a trademark for “Fenty” to use in connection with resort boutique hotels.

The singer says that she sent numerous cease-and-desist letters to her father and his partner, but they have gone unanswered. Rih is seeking damages and has asked a judge to place an injunction on Fenty Entertainment.

In other news, is Rihanna dropping an accessories line? According to The Shade Room, Rih was spotted wearing a pair of “Fenty” sunglasses with the brand’s name written on the side. The site also reports that Fenty has trademarked “goods and services” including eyeglass frames, sunglasses, accessories for mobile phones, tablet computers and more. There were no additional details at the time of reporting.

PETITION WANTS TRAVIS SCOTT, BIG BOI AND MAROON 5 TO TAKE A KNEE DURING SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW – (01/16/2019)

It was previously reported that Travis Scott and Big Boi will be joining Maroon 5 on the Super Bowl halftime stage next month. According to Complex, a petition has since been launched urging Travis, Big Boi and Maroon 5 to take a knee during the performance.

On the Change.org petiton, a man named Vic Oyedeji said, “It appears these artists aren’t backing out at this point. So now what? There’s one way they can still redeem their reputation with their fans. Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and Big Boi: take a knee during your set. Show the hundreds of millions of people watching that you stand in solidarity with Kaepernick and all players who protest police brutality.” Oyedeji added, “Use this opportunity to force the NFL to change their policy.”

Oyedeji also spoke of Maroon 5 to Billboard and said, “I have nothing against the band, this isn’t about them and they just got caught in the crossfire. I’m saying the only way for them to preserve their reputation is to take a knee during their set to show the hundreds of millions of people watching their solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the players who are protesting police brutality.”

It was also previously reported that Scott agreed to perform at the event if the NFL agreed to join him in a joint donation to a charitable cause. In partnership with the league, Scott will make a $500,000 contribution to Dream Corps, a non-profit organization that champions social justice.

SELENA GOMEZ BREAKS SOCIAL MEDIA SILENCE – (01/15/2019)

Selena Gomez has written a message to fans to wish them a happy new year, breaking her social media silence that started back in September.

The 26-year-old singer told fans on September 23, 2018, that she would be taking a break from social media. She emerged before the holidays in photos with her friends.

“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” Selena wrote on Instagram. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

As for the “challenges” Gomez faced in 2018, she elaborated in her September Instagram post that explained why she was taking a “social media break.” She wrote at the time, “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember – negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings.”

The following month, news broke that Gomez was seeking treatment for her mental health after suffering an “emotional breakdown.” That news came after she was reportedly hospitalized twice due to low white blood cell count, a complication that can arise in kidney transplant patients.

KATY PERRY ONCE SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL FOR ‘MAKING SEXUAL MOTIONS’ AT A TREE – (01/15/2019)

Katy Perry was suspended from sixth grade years ago when she pretended a tree was Tom Cruise and “began making sexual motions” towards the tree.

The 34-year-old took a trip down memory lane and posted the suspension notice on her Instagram Story for all her followers to read.

“At the 2:00pm recess, Katy and four other students were in an ‘off-limits’ area (behind the backboards) practicing a skit. Katy pretended that a tree was Tom Cruise and began making sexual motions (‘pelvic thrusts’) to the tree,” the suspension notice read. “When Katy met with [her teachers] she was asked to describe or demonstrate what she had been seen doing in the playground in front of some other students. Katy chose to describe it. Her words were ‘it was inappropriate’ and ‘like making out’.” The suspension notice is dated November 14, 1996.

The report adds that Katy was recently spotted by teachers “doing the Macarena dance” outside of their classrooms and had been cited twice for wearing “crop tops” with her midriff showing.

Perry captioned the Instagram Story post, “WHEN I WAS SUSPENDED IN 6TH GRADE FOR HUMPING A TREE AND I GUESS OTHER STUFF.”

Gaga said she rushed out to say her goodbyes to Arabella, skipping any post-awards show parties.

“She is and was a beautiful horse,” she continued. “Our souls and spirits were one. When she was in pain, so was I. I will never forget the moments we shared. Long hikes together, galloping through the canyons. Feeding her cookies. She will forever be a part of me. I am so very sad.”

The 39-year-old Jurassic World star hit up Instagram Stories to explain his journey: “OK, hi, Chris Pratt here. Day three of the Daniel Fast, check it out, it’s 21 days of prayer and fasting. And it’s gonna coincide also coincidentally with the Lego Movie 2 junkets, so by the time you see me, I’ll probably be hallucinating. Stay tuned.”

A website devoted to the Fast explains: “The Daniel Fast is based on the fasting experiences of the Old Testament Prophet. It’s a partial fast where some foods are eaten while others are restricted. Most people use this method of fasting for 21 consecutive days.”

The guidelines are strict: water is the only beverage allowed and you can only eat foods from seed; whole grains and legumes are allowed, as are liquid oils. Nuts and seeds make the cut too.

On the banned list: all meat, animal and dairy products. Deep fried foods and sweeteners are also not allowed.

GIVING THANKS

In the caption, the 39-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star also thanked his brother specifically: “Today on National Law Enforcement day I want to give a shout to my brother Cully who’s been a cop for 15 years after serving in the Army for eight. Love you bro! Thank you! He and his brothers and sisters in blue put their lives on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated. On National Law Enforcement Day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service and offer a token of respect.”
