GWEN STEFANI, RITA ORA & MORE HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR WOOLSEY FIRE AT ‘ONE LOVE MALIBU FESTIVAL’ – (12/04/2018)
Three weeks after thousands were evacuated from Malibu and the surrounding areas by the devastating Woolsey Fire, some of the biggest names in music and entertainment came together to fundraise for victims at the One Love Malibu Festival at King Gillette Ranch Sunday in Malibu.
Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke were among the stars performed during the event.
Courteney Cox, Demi Moore, Nikki Reed and Johnny Galecki served as presenters while Linda Perry, Natasha Bedingfield, Alanis Morissette, Joe Walsh, Rita Wilson, Brandi Carlile, Taylor Hawkins, Macy Gray and Angel Haze also hit the stage for their own sets.
Speakers included Dick Van Dyke, Demi Moore and Whitney Cummings.
Profits from tickets sold to the festival went to the Malibu Foundation to support those who lost homes and belongings in the fire.
Money was also raised by both a live and silent auction – and Katy Perry outbid a fan at the auction for a date with her boyfriend Orlando Bloom.
Katy Perry said she participated in the benefit concert because one of her band members lost his house in the Woolsey fire. “This guy is my friend and we’ve been on tour for the last couple of years and he lost his house in the fires,” the star told the crowd. “He’s got the greatest attitude and perspective in life and he’s the coolest guy, so I’m really here for him and everyone else who has been affected by this horribleness. But we have an opportunity to grow together now.”
During his set, Thicke shared that his home burned down in the fire and thanked attendees for “lending your hearts and lending your wallets and your time to support the people who did lose things. God bless you all.” Walsh said two musicians in his band also lost their homes, and Morissette dedicated the line “the fire trucks are coming up around the bend” in her song “You Learn” to firefighters.
During the auction portion of the event, Katy got on stage to auction off a date with her boyfriend Orlando Bloom. The date included a motorcycle ride with the actor, as well as lunch.
“You’re holding him in a way that I am not excited about,” Katy told the crowd about the motorcycle ride. “You’re holding his pecs and his six-pack — and it’s so glorious! You get to hold on to Orlando for about 45 minutes… and then, you get to stare into his brown eyes!”
Then, when a fan bid $20,000, Katy decided she herself wanted to bid $50,000 for a date with her own boyfriend and she outbid the fan.
PETE DAVIDSON ADDRESSES CYBERBULLYING FOLLOWING SPLIT FROM ARIANA GRANDE – (12/04/2018)
Pete Davidson wants the negativity to stop. Since the Saturday Night Live star returned to Instagram last week following his split from Ariana Grande, he has not encountered a warm reception.
Fans of Grande’s have poured into his comments section, accusing him of ending the engagement. In a heartbreaking new post, Davidson shares his past—and current—struggles with mental health, saying he hopes his openness will raise awareness in general about the huge impact cyberbullying can have on victims.
“I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything,” the 25-year-old comedian writes. “I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference. Especially in today’s climate where everyone loves to be offended and upset it truly is mind-boggling.”
“I’ve been getting online bullied and in public by people for nine months,” he continues. “I’ve spoken about BPD and being suicidal publicly only in the hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don’t want to be on this earth. I just want you guys to know. No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset I even have to say this. To all those holding me down and seeing this for what it is — I see you and I love you.”
Sympathy poured in from fans, with one writing “please stay strong,” and another saying, “You are amazing!”
FAST FACTS:
- The post comes three days after Grande released her breakup anthem, “Thank U, Next,” in which she names Davidson and implies she was the one to call off their split.
- Her manager, Scooter Braun, urged fans to stop harassing Davidson, saying there is no bad blood between the pair. Braun said: “No one has hate for this guy and he is a stand up guy. Show respect because trust me, everyone on this side knows he deserves it and wishes him well.”
