BTS edged out Taylor Swift to become the best-selling global artist of 2020.

The K-Pop group is the first act whose songs are not predominantly sung in English to claim the top spot on IFPI’s list.

The rest of the top-ten included Drake, Billie Eilish, Eminem, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Juice Wrld and Justin Bieber.

Global sales, downloads and streams are all taken into account when the IFPI calculates the winner, covering the entirety of each artist’s back catalogue.

MILEY CYRUS SIGNS WITH RCA – (03/05/2021)

Miley Cyrus has a new record label. 

The “Prisoner” singer has signed with Columbia Records after seven years and four albums on Sony Music sister label RCA. 

She shared a photo of herself holding up the new contract on her Instagram story Thursday (March 4th) with the caption “When I’m not running game. I’m running my MF Business. Letsssss ride.”

Columbia is home to artists such as Adele, Bruce Springsteen and Harry Styles, among others. Cyrus’s sister Noah is signed with Columbia-distributed RECORDS label.

MATHEW KNOWLES IS NOT HERE FOR BEYONCE AND CHLOE BAILEY COMPARISONS – (03/05/2021)

Mathew Knowles was insulted during an interview after being asked about Beyonce and Chloe Bailey comparisons.  During the Instagram Live interview, journalist Leah A. Henry asked how he felt about the comparisons with Beyonce and Chloe Bailey.

He responded, “You’ve got to be kidding me right? You’re asking me that question. Are you actually serious? That you’re comparing that young lady to Beyoncé? Talent wise? Are you telling me talent wise somebody is idiot enough to compare her to Beyoncé talent wise?”

Leah responded, “They say she’s a young Beyoncé in the making.”

Mathew said, “I’m asking you a yes or no question.  Are you telling me someone is idiot enough to compare her to Beyoncé talent wise? It’s a yes or no. Are there people saying her talent is equal to Beyonce? They’re an idiot, period. That’s actually insulting to Beyoncé.”

He added, “If you wanted to call out Barbara Streisand or some people like that…like come on, man.”

Leah said, “Chloe is talented though. That’s why Beyoncé picked her.” Mathewe responded, “I want to get off this topic. I don’t even want to talk about.” Moments later, Knowles left the interview after people started commented that what he said was mean and unnecessary.

BEBE REXHA WANTS TO GET FLASHER BANNED FROM INSTAGRAM – (03/05/2021)

Bebe Rexha is asking fans to help her identify the man who flashed her during an Instagram Live. 

The singer apologized to fans who were offended and addressed the flasher directly saying, “How could you come on my livechat when there’s kids and people…?”

She added that she wanted to report him to Instagram so that he could never do that again.

Rexha continued, “Plus you should be ashamed of yourself because you have a small thingy.”

CHRIS HARRISON WANTS TO RETURN TO ‘THE BACHELOR’ – (03/05/2021)

Chris Harrison is speaking out in a TV interview on Good Morning America for the first time after stepping down as host of The Bachelor following controversial remarks. It appears he mnay have a ways to go in the battle to win over critics. GMA’s co-host Michael Strahan dubbed his response just a “surface” apology. 

Harrison discussed defending contestant Rachael Kirkconnell‘s resurfaced antebellum plantation-themed photos with Strahan. He made the remarks during a discussion with Rachel Lindsay. 

Harrison said: [“I am an imperfect man I made a mistake and I own that. I believe that mistake doesn’t reflect who I am or what I stand for. I am committed to the progress not just for myself also for the franchise.”] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . .for the franchise.)

He added: “I’m sorry to Rachel Lindsay and the black community.” And:  “Antebellum parties are not OK. Past, present, future, knowing what that represents is unacceptable.”

Harrison wants to return as host. He said: “I want to be back but this interview is not the finish line.”

After the interview, Strahan described his conversation with Harrison as a “surface response.”

OLIVIA RODRIGO GOT A SPECIAL GIFT FROM TAYLOR SWIFT – (03/04/2021)

Olivia Rodrigo received a special gift from Taylor Swift.  

The 18-year-old singer told SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up that Swift sent a ring just like the one she wore when she wrote her 2012 album Red.  According to Rodrigo, it came with a handwritten note and “all of this amazing stuff.”

The “Drivers License” singer added, “I truly don’t understand where she finds the time, first of all. But, like also, I feel so lucky that I just was born at the right time to be able to look up to somebody like her. I think she’s incredible. All of her support and like genuine, like compassion and excitement for me is just been so, so surreal.”

ADAM LEVINE SAYS THERE ARE NO BANDS ANYMORE – (03/04/2021)

Adam Levine is sad that there are no bands anymore. 

In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the Maroon 5 singer said, “It’s funny, when the first Maroon 5 album came out there were still other bands. I feel like there aren’t any bands anymore, you know?” 

He continued, “There’s no bands anymore, and I feel like they’re a dying breed. And so I kind of, in a weird way, as far as … I mean, there still are plenty of bands, and maybe they’re not in the limelight quite as much, or in the pop limelight, but I wish there could be more of those around.”

Levine also revealed that he’s been playing old Avril Lavigne records for his daughter, saying, “Like, dude, ‘I’m With You’ is like — it’s, yeah, that gives you tears. It’s crazy, because you don’t remember it in the same way, because you took it for granted, because it was like when you were growing up, and it was just part of what you had on the radio. But there’s some really great songs that I didn’t understand how good they were back then.”

KIM KARDASHIAN TO GET $60M MANSE IN SPLIT? – (03/04/2021)

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are prioritizing their kids amid their split. TMZ reports that Kim and North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 1, will remain in the 15,000 square foot Southern California mansion they purchased and rebuilt. 

West designed the home in what turned into a multi-year passion project. It got the cover story treatment in Architectural Digest, and was hailed for its minimalism. It is reportedly worth $60 million. 

But since then, it has been the kids and Kardashian who have spent the most time there. She also has family ties to the region, with her mom and siblings living close by. But West has essentially moved to Wyoming, where he has his 9,000 acre ranch and has moved his Yeezy brand.  

Their split is reportedly amicable and they plan to share legal and physical custody.

SOFIA VERGARA WINS EMBRYO BATTLE: Sofia Vergara has scored another legal victory in her battle over frozen embryos with ex-fiance Nick Loeb. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled that he will not be allowed to bring the embryos to term without her written consent. The pair split in 2014. 

MARIAH CAREY’S BROTHER SUES HER FOR DEFAMATION FOR A TELL-ALL MEMOIR – (03/04/2021)

Mariah Carey‘s brother Morgan Carey has filed a defamation suit against his famous sister over her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey. According to Page Six, Carey said that his sister falsely portrayed him as violent when they were growing up. 

Carey’s Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit alleged, “Many passages about [Morgan] in the book are false and defamatory, personally invasive and painful, and have caused serious damage to his reputation and to his personal and business affairs.”

Carey has claimed that he lost out on a film project that he was in negotiations with because of his sister’s claims. 

Morgan is suing for unspecified damages.

SWIFTIES ATTACK JOHN MAYER ON TIKTOK – (03/03/2021)

TikTok users are still not over John Mayer and Taylor Swift’s rumored relationship from over a decade ago. 

Mayer only joined the social media app on Monday (March 1st) and Swifties have already started bombarding the comments section. 

Swift’s fans, who believe the singer’s 2010 single “Dear John” is a scathing criticism of the pair’s time together left comments like, “we will never forget what you did to our girl taylor.” And another user wrote, “this was not the right app to join, john … #dearjohn.”

The “Your Body Is A Wonderland” singer addressed the fans in his second post, nodding along and agreeing politely while the words, “POV: You’re berating me and I’m hearing you out” showed on screen. 

HALSEY SAYS HER PREGNANCY WAS 100% PLANNED – (03/03/2021)

Halsey has had enough with people speculating about her pregnancy, writing in a recent Instagram Story that it “100% planned.”

The 26-hear-old singer announced in January that she and screenwriter Alev Aydin are expecting their first child together. 

However, Halsey took to social media on Monday to squash any negative talk, writing, “Why is it ok to speculate and pass judgement about fertility and conception? My pregnancy was 100% planned, and I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just a happy even if it were another way.”

This is not Halsey’s first pregnancy.  She revealed to Rolling Stone that she had a miscarriage while on tour in 2015.

ALEC AND HILARIA BALDWIN RELEASE (SOME) INFO ON NEW BABY, SHUT DOWN SPECULATION – (03/03/2021)

Fans were taken by surprise Monday when Alec and Hilaria Baldwin shared the news that they had welcomed their sixth child together. (It’s Alec’s seventh; he shares Ireland Baldwin, 25, with Kim Basinger). 

It came just five months after they welcomed Eduardo. On Tuesday, Hilaria posted a shot of their daughter, writing: “We are so in love with our daughter, Lucia. Just like your brothers and sisters, you are a dream come true.”

The short window between the babies prompted speculation, with most observers agreeing that their daughter must have been welcomed via surrogacy or adoption. But Alec, 62, didn’t appreciate the tone of some of the comments. “You should shut the f–k up and mind your own business,” he responded when a fan asked, “Who’s the mother? She wasn’t pregnant. She gave birth six months ago. If it was a surrogate just say that. If the baby was adopted just say that. If the baby was the product of an affair and you’ve decided to raise it with your wife just say that.”

Page Six points to “evidence” that Lucia was welcomed via surrogate, noting that she follows a surrogacy agency with offices in NYC. The company, Alcea Surrogacy, congratulated one of their “IPs,” ie intended parents, on the birth of their daughter, just days before the Baldwins shared the pics. 

Hilaria suffered two miscarriages in 2019, and was open about her grief before welcoming Eduardo.

Taylor Swift is not happy about the “lazy, deeply sexist joke” that one of Netflix’s newest shows has made at her expense. 

During an episode of Ginny and Georgia, teenager Ginny Miller lashes out at her mother for inquiring about her dating life, saying, “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.” 

The singer posted the closed captioning for the scene to her Twitter account and wrote, “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse sh*t as FuNnY.

“Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you Happy Women’s History Month I guess.”

Miss Americana is the documentary film directed by Lana Wilson that followed Swift’s life and career for several years.  It debuted on Netflix in January 2020. 

GOLDEN GLOBES RATINGS CRATER – (03/02/2021)

Ratings for the virtual Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, held this Sunday tanked. Early numbers show that just 5.42 million viewers tuned in, down more than 60% from last year’s numbers of 14.76 million. The early numbers don’t include viewership of the show from the West coast. 

The last time numbers were this low was in 2008 when a writers strike cancelled the usual star-studded ceremony. A televised press conference featuring the winners’ list still drew 6 million+ viewers.

Awards shows are trending sharply down. In the past six months, viewership for the CMA Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards and American Music Awards have dropped by 30%+.

DID TIGER WOODS FALL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL? – (03/02/2021)

Did Tiger Woods fall asleep behind the wheel just moments before his horrific crash last week? According to Page Six, a report citing forensic car experts said that the golf legend appeared to not be paying attention right before he crashed his 2021 Genesis GV80. 

Jonathan Cherney, a consultant who serves as an expert witness in court cases told USA Today, “To me, this is like a classic case of falling asleep behind the wheel, because the road curves and his vehicle goes straight.”

He continued, “It’s a drift off the road, almost like he was either unconscious, suffering from a medical episode or fell asleep and didn’t wake up until he was off the road and that’s where the brake application came in.”

Accident Reconstruction Expert Felix Lee said, “My feeling is that speed wasn’t that much of an issue. It was just some kind of inattention that caused the curb strike.”

LADY GAGA’S DOG WALKER SHARES HIS STORY ON INSTAGRAM – (03/02/2021)

Lady Gaga’s dog walker gave a detailed account of the shooting that landed him in the hospital and resulted in the kidnapping of Gaga’s French Bulldogs, Koji and Gustav. 

Ryan Fisher, 39, wrote on Instagram Monday (March 1st) that the singer’s other dog Asia was his “angel” and laid with him while he waited for help to arrive. 

He captioned a photo of himself in a hospital bed with, “I am still in recovery from a very close call with death and have kept myself (for the most part, I mean I am human) from the growing media story. I will write and say more later, but the gratitude for all the love I feel from around this planet is immense and intense.”

Fisher also praised his friend and employer, writing, “@ladygaga: your babies are back and the family is whole… we did it! You have shown so much support throughout this whole crisis to both me and my family. But your support as a friend, despite your own traumatic loss from your kids, was unwavering. I love you and thank you.”

For now, he says she has a lot of healing to do but he is looking forward to the future and the moment when he gets “bombarded with kisses and licks (and maybe even an excitement pee?) from Asia, Koji, and Gustav.”

YEP, SHE’S PREGNANT: Gal Gadot confirmed that she is pregnant with her third child after fans speculated following her appearance at the 2021 Golden Globes Sunday. “Here we go again,” she tweeted alongside a sweet family snap with her husband, Yaron Varsano, and their two daughters, Maya and Alma, cradling her baby bump.

TIGER WOODS WON’T FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES FOR CAR CRASH – (02/25/2021)

During a Facebook Live chat, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that Tiger Woods won’t be facing any charges for the crash that happened on Tuesday (February 23rd).

According to The NY Post, he said, “This remains an accident. An accident is not a crime. They do happen, unfortunately.” Villanueva said Woods could eventually be cited for inattentive driving, but that would be an infraction, not a misdemeanor.

As previously reported, Woods was driving on Hawthorne Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle. 

On Tuesday night (February 23rd), it was reported that Tiger was “awake and responsive” after undergoing emergency surgery on his legs. Tiger released an official statement to his Twitter account, saying that he suffered “comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula” in the accident. His ankle was shattered as well.

BEHIND KIM & KANYE’S SPLIT, HER NIGHT ON THE TOWN – (02/25/2021)

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are breaking up after almost seven years of marriage and four kids for a depressingly familiar reason: they’ve grown apart.

An insider tells People that the pair are in agreement on joint and physical custody, and because they have a prenup agreement that neither is contesting, they are close to an agreement. 

A source tells People of their split: “They have a different vision of the world and how their kids should be raised. Kim will always support Kanye and his causes and encourage him with their kids, but her future with work, family and life in general are strictly up to her. She makes it happen. Kim will continue with her projects and so will Kanye. What they want in life and for their kids doesn’t always match.” 

SINGLE

Kim appears to be embracing her single status. She was spotted out at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills with her sister and girlfriends, a source tells Us. The insider says: “She was with Kourtney [Kardashian], her old assistant Stephanie [Shepherd] and a few other girlfriends. She was wearing a seafoam green skintight dress with a diamond cross on. No camera crew or anything, but security was nearby.”

No wedding ring, the source adds.

TAYLOR SWIFT COUNTERSUES UTAH THEME PARK – (02/25/2021)

Taylor Swift is countersuing a Utah-based theme park that accused her of trademark infringement. 

According to court documents viewed by Pitchfork, the countersuit filed by TAS Rights Management claims that Evermore Park routinely played Swift’s music on its grounds “without authorization or license agreement.”

TAS’ suit claims that starting in 2019, BMI repeatedly tried to reach out to Evermore Park via phone calls, emails, and letters but the park only responded only after they learned that TAS’ countersuit was imminent.

Swift’s management company is seeking a court order for Evermore Park to pay enhanced statutory damages for each infringed upon work and performance.

In early February, Evermore Park filed filed a lawsuit claiming they own the rights to the name “evermore” and Swift violated those rights when she started selling merchandise with that branding to promote her album by the same name.  They are seeking millions in damages.

‘SPIDER-MAN’ SEQUEL DETAILS REVEALED AFTER EXTENSIVE TROLLING – (02/25/2021)

The third Spider-Man film between Sony and Disney’s Marvel on board will be called Spider-Man: No Way Home. This comes courtesy of star Tom Holland, who has been teasing fans along with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon for days. Previously, Zendaya joked that it would be titled Spider-Man: Home Slice, while Holland and Batalon claimed it would be Phone Home and Home Wrecker, respectively. 

“Name one thing I’ve actually spoiled,” a frustrated Holland — who has earned a reputation over the years for spilling the beans — says in a tongue-in-cheek clip released by Sony.

“The last movie title,” Zendaya replies, before the camera zooms in on a white board bearing the actual name of the latest installment.

No Way Home will drop December 17th.

TIGER WOODS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN CAR CRASH IN LOS ANGELES – (02/24/2021)

Tiger Woods was hospitalized yesterday (February 23rd) following  a serious car accident in L.A. County. According to TMZ, original reports said that the accident was so bad that officials used the jaws of life to free him from the vehicle, but they later said those reports weren’t true.  

Officials said in a statement, “On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes.  The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage. The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.”

Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg confirmed that the golf icon sustained multiple leg injuries and went into surgery.

In a news conference, Deputy Carlos Gonzalez — who was the first person to arrive at the crash scene, said that Tiger is lucky to be alive. He was wearing a seatbelt during the crash and officials believed that it saved his life.

Gonzalez also said that Tiger was lucid and could speak at the crash scene and did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or any other substance.

The 45-year-old was in the area for his annual Genesis Invitational golf tournament at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades.

TAYLOR SWIFT TOPS ‘BILLBOARD’ ARTIST 100 – (02/24/2021)

Taylor Swift has jumped from No. 5 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 on the strength of “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)”. The remake debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

“Love Story” is the first single to be released from the rerecording of Swift’s 2008 album, Fearless. 

JOHN MAYER NEARLY CRIED WATCHING BRITNEY SPEARS DOCUMENTARY – (02/24/2021)

John Mayer told Andy Cohen on Tuesday (February 23rd) that he almost cried five times while watching the documentary, Framing Britney Spears.

The 43-year-old singer said, “I was on the edge of tears five times. Because if you understand what this business, slash industry, slash lifestyle does to a person…To go through this and come out the other side OK, is to have infinite grace for those who struggle with it.”

Mayer has been linked romantically to several high-profile women in the music industry such as Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift.

CHRIS HARRISON REPLACEMENT: Bachelor Nation is seeking new blood. Chris Harrison has stepped down after multiple scandals and missteps, and TMZ reports that his replacement will likely be someone without any ties to the troubled series. TAYLOR SWIFT RE-RECORDED ‘FEARLESS’ – (02/12/2021)

Taylor Swift has made good on her promise to re-record her first six albums.  She announced on Good Morning America yesterday (February 11th) that she remade her 2008 album Fearless. 

Fearless: Taylor’s Version will feature twice as many songs as the original, including six never before released songs.   

On her social media accounts today, Swift further explained her reasons for the Fearless re-recording, writing, “I’ve spoken a lot about why I’m remaking my first six albums, but the way I’ve chosen to do this will hopefully illuminate where I’m coming from. Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really knows that body of work. For example, only I know which songs I wrote that almost made the ‘Fearless’ album. Songs I absolutely adored, but were held back for different reasons (don’t want too many breakup songs, don’t want too many down tempo songs, can’t fit that many songs on a physical CD).

“Those reasons seem unnecessary now. I’ve decided I want you to have the whole story, see the entire vivid picture, and let you into the entire dreamscape that is my ‘Fearless’ album. That’s why I’ve chosen to include 6 never before released songs on my version of this album, written when I was between the ages of 16 and 18. These were the ones it killed me to leave behind.”

The lead single, “Love Story” is available now. 

OLIVIA RODRIGO cannnot contain her excitement for Taylor Swift’s re-recordings. The “Drivers License” singer shared Swift’s announcement with the caption “I AM NOT OKAY” and later expressed her particular excitment for the new recording of “White Horse.” She also gathered a group of friends to perform “You Belong With Me” on her Instagram Story. 

SHIA LABEOUF IS PUSHING BACK HARD – (02/12/2021)

Shia LaBeouf is not only shutting down “each and every” claim of abuse FKA Twigs leveled against her ex in a lawsuit, he is claiming “self-defense” in physical altercations, according to docs obtained by Page Six.

The court filings were made February 5th. He now denies that the 32-year-old “sustained any injury or loss by reason of any act or omission” because of him. These claims conflict with his previous statements to The New York Times, in which he admitted to being “abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.”

He is currently seeking long-term inpatient treatment. 

Other exes, including Sia, have backed Twigs’ stories, claiming that they were also abused by LaBeouf. 

Her lawyer, Bryan Freedman, told Page Six on Thursday in response, “Upon being confronted with Ms. Barnett’s lawsuit, Mr. LaBeouf admitted his reprehensible conduct and then checked himself into some type of inpatient treatment. To the extent his 5 week treatment has been focused on denials and gaslighting, he may want to revisit the type of help he is receiving. Mr. LaBeouf’s legal tact and recovery plan, while not surprising, are poorly misguided self help strategies.”

SCORE! MEGHAN MARKLE WINS BATTLE AGAINS THE BLOIDS – (02/12/2021)

The Duchess of Sussex won a privacy lawsuit she filed against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday. Meghan Markle sued after they published parts of a letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, following her wedding to Prince Harry. 

Judge Mark Warby wrote that Meghan “had a reasonable expectation that the contents of the letter would remain private,” and the articles had “interfered with that reasonable expectation.”

“Taken as a whole the disclosures were manifestly excessive and hence unlawful,” he wrote. “There is no prospect that a different judgment would be reached after a trial.”

The battle is won, but the war isn’t over. The issues of copyright will have to settled at trial. 

Meghan said in a statement after the ruling that she was “grateful to the courts for holding Associated Newspapers and The Mail on Sunday to account for their illegal and dehumanizing practices.”

“For these outlets, it’s a game,” she added. “For me and so many others, it’s real life, real relationships, and very real sadness. The damage they have done and continue to do runs deep.”

A spokesperson for the Associated Newspapers said they were “disappointed at being denied the chance to have all the evidence heard and tested in open court at a full trial.”

The spokesperson added: “We are carefully considering the judgment’s contents and will decide in due course whether to lodge an appeal.”

SELENA GOMEZ called out Mark Zuckerburg and Sheryl Sandberg for allowing misinformation to spread on Facebook.  The singer retweeted a post from the Center for Countering Digital Hate criticizing the social network for allowing Children’s Health Defense and ICAN to remain on the platform. Gomez wrote, “There is so much misinformation connected to Covid on @Facebook. This is going to lead to even more deaths.  Mark Zuckerberg and @SherylSandberg – how does this continue to happen??”
