ED SHEERAN DISCUSSES HIS ‘NO.6 COLLABORATIONS PROJECT’ WITH CHARLAMAGNE THA GOD – (05/29/2019)
Ed Sheeran recently sat down with Charlamagne Tha God to discuss his forthcoming No.6 Collaborations Project.
Their conversation is streaming exclusively on Ed’s YouTube channel now. During the convo, Ed explained the project’s origin. “Before I was signed [to a label], I made lots of EPs, and I made an eight-track EP called No. 5 Collaborations Project with a load of UK rappers that I was a big fan of at the time,” Sheeran explained in the exclusive interview. Since then, he said, he’d been featured on other musicians’ work but hadn’t brought on collaborators or guest features on his own albums.
“It was when I [worked with] Beyoncé and Andrea Bocelli, and I had them both on the ‘Perfect’ single, that I started a thing on my laptop, ‘No. 6 Collaborations,’” said Sheeran. “And just throughout the year while I was on tour, any time I met anyone that I’d been a fan of, it was the first time I’d been able to be like, ‘Let’s get in the studio’.” He added:
[“With this record, I kind of want to put it out, and then run from it. I don’t see it as the next stage of my career, it’s just something I made and I want to put out. For me, this is a compilation album of artists that I’m a fan of.”]
When CTG poked fun at Sheeran by saying that if a particular artist didn’t make the cut on the project, then he wasn’t really a fan of them, Ed responded:
“It was all very, very natural. The last thing I wanted to do was kind of have the label be like, ‘You need to work with this person.’ My rule for it was if I have it and I play it in my car, I’m working with them. There’s lots of artists that are huge and I could’ve worked with, which would’ve made no sense to me.”]
Ed drew on an unlikely source of inspiration in Christina Aguilera’s girl power “Lady Marmalade” collab that led to him working with Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars:
[“This project actually started with one idea I had. You remember ‘Lady Marmalade?’ I had an idea of doing that. I was like, ‘Oh, you can get Bruno, Bieber, and me on a record. How fun would that be?’ The first person I rung was Bruno. He was just like, ‘Let’s just do a song. Just us’.”]
No. 6 Collaborations Project will feature “I Don’t Care,” with Justin Bieber, as well as Sheeran’s latest single “Cross Me” with Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock. Sheeran has released the tracklist for the compilation, but has kept the other collaborators a secret. No.6 Collaborations Project comes out July 12th.

KANYE WEST OPENS UP ABOUT HOSPITALIZATION WITH DAVID LETTERMAN – (05/29/2019)
Kanye West has spoken candidly about his hospitalization during an appearance on Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman. Kanye reveals that he now sees psychiatrists in his home. He also describe when he became “hyper-paranoid” a few years ago and ended up in the hospital.
Ye explained, “You feel everyone wants to kill you, you pretty much don’t trust everyone, and they have this moment where they handcuff you, they drug you, they put you on the bed, and they separate you from everyone you know.”
West went on to say, “That’s something that I’m so happy I experienced myself so I can start by changing that moment. When you are in that state, you have to have someone you trust. It is cruel and primitive to do that.”
Kanye also said that he wants to end the discrimination against those suffering with mental health issues and compared it to having a “sprained ankle.” He continued, “If someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not gonna push on him more. With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse. They do everything possible. They got us to that point, and then they do everything to make it worse.”
He later revealed that he has not taken his medication in eight months, and that he believes he is in a much more creative space. The rapper added, “You know, if you guys want these crazy ideas, these crazy stages, this crazy music, and this crazy way of thinking, there’s a chance it might come from a crazy person.”
Kanye’s appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman is set to air on May 31st.
