‘EMMYS 2018’: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM TV’S BIGGEST NIGHT – (09/17/2018)
The 70thPrimetime Emmy Awards are upon us! Here’s what to expect.
WHAT:
The Emmys honor the best in U.S. primetime television programming from June 1, 2017-May 31, 2018, as selected by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
WHEN:
The ceremony will take place on Monday September 17th, 2018, at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. NBC will broadcast. This is the first time in four years the Emmys will be broadcast on Monday, in a move to avoid conflict with Sunday Night Football. The show starts at 8 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. PT.
WHO:
Michael Che and Colin Jost (of Saturday Night Live Weekend Update fame) are hosting. Their boss, Lorne Michaels, is exec producing. Plus, there are plenty of bold-faced presenters, including Patricia Arquette, Alec Baldwin, Eric Bana, Angela Bassett, Samantha Bee, Connie Britton, Rachel Brosnahan, Millie Bobby Brown, RuPaul, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Douglas, Tina Fey, Claire Foy, Hannah Gadsby, Ilana Glazer, Kit Harington, Taraji P. Henson, Abbi Jacobson, Jimmy Kimmel, Kate McKinnon, Tracy Morgan, Elisabeth Moss, Bob Odenkirk, Sandra Oh, Sarah Paulson, Issa Rae, Andy Samberg, Matt Smith, Ben Stiller, Constance Wu and the cast of Queer Eye.
NOMINATIONS:
HBO’s Game of Thrones scored big this year, raking in 22 nominations, after missing the eligibility window last year. Westworld, another HBO drama, landed 21 nods, as did NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale was hot on their heels with 20, and FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story nabbing 18 and FX’s Atlanta earning 16.
AND:
…. So will it be about TV, or will it be about politics? It’s the eternal question, and it seems even Che and Jost aren’t sure how they’ll play it.
Jost told the AP: “We don’t even know what’s necessarily going to happen during the weekend politically. There might be something, there might not.”
But Che said: “There’s gonna be political jokes and we’re gonna come out on the wrong side of history, for sure. We’re aiming toward it.”
JUSTIN BIEBER & HAILEY BALDWIN MARRIED? – (09/17/2018)
Despite reports to the contrary, Hailey Baldwin wants to inform everyone that, no, she hasn’t already married Justin Bieber.
Baldwin issued a statement to politely deny the nuptial claims. “I understand where the speculation is coming from,” she explained, “but I’m not married yet!” However, her tweet was deleted later.
The duo visited a New York City courtroom last week to apply for a license in the Marriage Bureau, with sources saying during the visit they discussed an imminent trip to Canada.
People magazine claimed sources said that the two were legally married at the courthouse on Thursday, just two months after getting engaged.
“They went ahead and did it without listening to anyone,” a source close to the couple tells the mag.
A religious source adds that the two will be having a religious ceremony and celebration with family and friends soon. “They’re going to have a big blowout, in front of God and everyone they love,” the insider says.
In a new report, People still maintains that legally, Baldwin and Bieber did get married civilly – but Baldwin just doesn’t see herself as fully married until she has a religious ceremony. A friend close to the couple told the outlet that Baldwin just “feels a civil ceremony and their ‘real’ wedding are two separate things.”
Meanwhile, Bieber has lived in the United States since he was 13, and has reportedly applied for dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship.
MEL B CONFIRMS SPICE GIRLS REUNION TOUR ON ‘LATE LATE SHOW’ – (09/17/2018)
Mel B has once again claimed the Spice Girls are getting back together for a reunion tour.
The America’s Got Talent judge confirmed the rumors on Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show when host James Corden asked about the oft-speculated reunion. “100 percent it’s happening,” was her reply.
Corden wanted to know if every group member was on board, and so he ran down the list of all the Spice Girls as Mel confirmed or denied. The singer revealed that Baby Spice (Emma Bunton), Sporty Spice (Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm) and Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell) are all “for sure” joining the tour.
However, when it comes to Posh Spice, a.k.a. Victoria Beckham, things are little more up in the air. “Well, we’ll see about that one,” she said, before adding that “she may join us for a few” shows.
Another idea tossed around during the interview was having celebrity guests fill in for Posh. Corden tasked fellow guest Olivia Munn to do a Posh impression, which was pretty good. Mel applauded Munn for her imitation and then said, “Katy Perry would be good, wouldn’t she?”
Mel also said that she still has all her original Spice Girls outfits and confessed to creating a “shrine” of Spice Girls memorabilia in her bedroom.
THE CHAINSMOKERS & HALSEY CELEBRATE DIAMOND CERTIFICATION OF ‘CLOSER’ – (09/17/2018)
The Chainsmokers and Halsey are celebrating the Diamond certification of their chart-topping collabo, “Closer.” The song has been certified for sales of 10 million copies.
On Instagram, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall posted a photo of themselves with Jimmy Kimmel and their Diamond plaques, along with a lengthy caption thanking Kimmel for surprising them with the plaques, and their co-writers, Halsey and their fans for make “Closer” a hit.
“CLOSER is officially DIAMOND in the U.S. !! we could have never imagined having one of our songs going 10x platinum. we wrote this song with @freddykennett and @shaunfrank in the back of our tour bus 3 years ago thinking it would be fun a record for our friends to jam to, nothing more, congrats boys!” reads the caption.
“Thank you @iamhalsey for adding your magic and making this song reach its full potential!” they continued. “And a sincere thank you to everyone who has shared and made memories to this song over the past couple years…love you all!”
The duo has teased that a new collabo with country star Kelsea Ballerini is coming this Tuesday.
Halsey posted a photo of her plaque wrapped in bubble wrap and wrote, “Been on tour for a hundred years so I haven’t even gotten home yet to unwrap this baby. CLOSER IS CERTIFIED DIAMOND! 10 times platinum! TEN MILLION! In just 2 years.”
“Thank you to every single beautiful little heart that sang this song at the top of their lungs,” she added. “Thank you to everyone to whom this song represents a moment a summer a year in your life. Thank you for letting us soundtrack a piece of your journey.”
She added, “WOW! (I WENT DIAMOND BEFORE MY 24th BIRTHDAY!!!!!) THIS IS NUTS!”
