ELLEN DEGENERES MULLS LEAVING HER SHOW – (12/13/2018)
Ellen DeGeneres has been a reliable entrée on America’s TV diet for decades, most recently with her long-runing The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
But in an interview published in The New York Times Wednesday, the 60-year-old confesses that the can’t go on forever; while she did extend her contract through 2020, she says she seriously considered quitting.
So why did she continue? She says her brother Vance DeGeneres told her that “in the age of Trump, the country needs her positive, unifying voice on television every day.”
But her wife Portia de Rossi wants her to quit, DeGeneres reveals.
“I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and stand-up that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,” admits de Rossi. “There are other things she could tackle.”
Another surprising motivation for her possible exit is the nonstop burden of being nice, which everyone expects: “There’s been times someone wants a picture, and while I’m doing a selfie, they’re like: ‘You’re not dancing!’ Of course I’m not dancing. I’m walking down the street.”
