2019 EMMY NOMINATIONS: BIGGEST SNUBS AND SURPRISES – (07/17/2019)

The Good Place star D’Arcy Carden and Masked Singer judge Ken Jeong unveiled the nominees for the 71st Emmy Awards Tuesday. This year, the nominations divvied up more than their usual share of snubs and surprises.

FINALLY

On a positive note, Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek earned some Emmy love in its sixth and final season. The show earned a nom in the Outstanding Comedy category, while Eugene Levy was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, and Catherine O’Hara was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress.

GOT TAKES 32!

Despite receiving blowback from fans, HBO’s Game of Thrones snagged an amazing 32 nominations, putting HBO in the lead for network with the most nods. Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke both earned nods for Outstanding Leads.

This is the most nominations any show has received in a single year. NYPD Blue held the previous record, with 26 noms in 1994. HBO snagged 137, with Netflix earning 117 for a distant second place. They were the only networks to break triple digits.

MORE GOOD NEWS

Next up, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has 20 nominations, followed by HBO’s Chernobyl with 19, NBC’s Saturday Night Live with 18, and HBO’s Barry and FX’s Fosse/Verdon are tied with 17 apiece.

Other shows that faired well include The Handmaid’s Tale with 11, HBO’s Veep and NBC’s This Is Us with nine each, CNN’s Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Netflix’s Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé with six apiece, and NBC’s The Good Place with five.

Several stars landed first-timin nominations, including Amy Adams(Sharp Objects), Hugh Grant (A Very English Scandal), Mandy Moore (This Is Us), Billy Porter (Pose), Sam Rockwell (Fosse/Verdon), Sophie Turner(Game of Thrones) and Michelle Williams (Fosse/Verdon).

SNUBBED

While NBC’s The Good Place snagged five noms, Outstanding Comedy, Ted Danson for Outstanding Lead and Maya Rudolph for Outstanding Guest, leading star Kristen Bell was overlooked again, as was D’Arcy Carden, who announced the noms.

The widely admired Penn Badgley was passed over for his role as killer Joe in Netflix’s You

Another massive snub was CBS All AccessGood Wife spinoff.

Julia Roberts, who was overlooked for her hit Amazon series Homecoming, addressed the oversight on Instagram. “Well, I’m in exceptional company at least,” she wrote. She linked to a USA Today alert that read  “Biggest Emmy nomination snubs: Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Emma Stone are among the A-listers shut out.”

Clooney was expected to be nominated for his role on Hulu’s Catch-22, and Stone was considered a contender for Netflix’s Maniac

The 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 22 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, airing at 8pm ET on Fox

LIL NAS X, ARIANA GRANDE, CARDI B, BTS MAKE TIME’S LIST OF 25 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET – (07/17/2019)

Ariana Grande, Lil Nas X, Cardi B, BTS and JoJo Siwa have all made TIME’s list of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet.

Ari made the list for cleverly promoting her thank u, next album by dropping clues and song lyrics on Twitter and creating “music videos designed for (and steeped in) internet culture.” She’s also the most-followed musician on Instagram.

Cardi B got her start on Instagram and she’s continued her uncensored approach to the app now that she has 47 million followers. Her political opinions tend to make headlines: In January, her post about President Trump shutting down the government led two senators to publicly debate on Twitter whether or not they should retweet it.

Lil Nas X became known online for Twitter memes even before “Old Town Road” took off on the video-sharing app TikTok. After being kicked off the country chart, the song has now been No. 1 on the Hot 100 for 15 weeks. The rapper also spurred engagement when he came out as gay last month.

BTS makes the list thanks to their massive online fan base, nicknamed the ARMY, who’ve made them Billboard’s top Social Artist for more than two years and sent three of their albums to No. 1 in a single year.

16-year-old JoJo Siwa sings, dances, and vlogs on YouTube and TikTok. She has parlayed her online fame into a real-world music career; as part of a larger creative collaboration with Nickelodeon, she has embarked on tour to perform songs like “Boomerang” that has 700 million views on YouTube. She regularly clears 2 million YouTube views a day.

Others on TIME’s list include President Trump, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chris Godfrey, whose image of an egg set the record back in January for the most-liked Instagram post.

Additionally, Time highlights the influence of the Hong Kong protesters and school strikers aimed at tackling climate change and lowering carbon emissions.

ED SHEERAN CONFIRMS HE’S MARRIED ON NEW ALBUM, TALKS SOCIAL ANXIETY & MORE ED NEWS – (07/15/2019)

Following months of speculation, Ed Sheeran has finally confirmed he tied the knot with Cherry Seaborn. He dropped the news on his new album No.6 Collaborations Project, which was released Friday.

In his song “Remember the Name” featuring Eminem and 50 Cent, Sheeran sings, “Watch how the lyrics in this song might get twisted/ My wife wears red but looks better without the lipstick.”

Sheeran got personal with Charlamagne Tha God for what will reportedly be the singer-songwriter’s only interview for his No.6 Collaborations Project album. In the interview, Sheeran talked about being yourself, marriage and his latest collaborations with artists including Cardi B and Travis Scott.

“The fact is, I’ve already achieved more than I thought I could. So now I’m at a point where I’m just having fun,” Sheeran said.

Sheeran’s collaborations album also features the singles “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber and “Cross Me” featuring Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock.

After recording his verse on “Remember the Name” Sheeran planned to include Em and 50 on the record, which Sheeran said he “wished into existence.” Before playing a gig with Eminem in London, Sheeran suggested the collaboration in a chance encounter with the pair of hip-hop superstars.

[“I walked in to Eminem’s dressing room, and it’s him and 50 Cent in there. I was like, this has to be meant to be!”]

Sheeran also touched on his personal connection to Eminem.:

[“I really relate to him, even more so now. As a kid I related to him just because I felt like a bit of an outcast, but even now like the way that we’ve both stuck in our hometowns, we both live here, we both got to a level where you’re so famous you cannot go outside.”]

Sheeran also confirmed his marriage to longtime partner, Cherry Seaborn, which was subtly revealed in the “Remember the Name” lyric.

[“It was actually before me and Cherry got married. and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out.” Sheeran added, “‘Cause someone’s gonna hear that and be like, ‘Oh, they’re married!’”]

Sheeran also referenced the nuptials when discussing the lead single from the record, “I Don’t Care” featuring Justin Bieber. “Bieber just got married. I’d just got married,” he explained. “That song is about being at an industry event with the woman you love, or the person you love, and kind of being like, ‘F*ck this, let’s just have fun ourselves’.” He added, “It was actually Cherry’s idea, because she was like, ‘Oh, why don’t you get Bieber? Like, he’d be perfect for this … it just fits.’“

In other Ed News, “South of the Border,” Ed Sheeran’s new collaboration with Camila Cabello and Cardi B, has gotten the lyric video treatment. “South of the Border” is another one of the 15 collaborative tracks on Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project.

And Sheeran and Travis Scott’s whimsical new music video for “Antisocial,” is also out now. Directed by Dave Meyers, it features lots of different sets, costume changes, and wigs. The video pays tribute to various classic films, including possible references to Edward Scissorhands, The Mask, The Birds, The Martian, and Pulp Fiction.

Ed shared some of the silly behind-the-scenes moments from the making of “Antisocial.” In one clip, Sheeran is seen getting fitted for a frizzy ginger wig and cracking a joke about meeting a small dog that’s featured in the video. Another shows him getting cozy on the couch in a white robe sporting another long-haired hairpiece.

Also, during his interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Ed opened up about his mental health struggles and reveals he often feels “claustrophobic” and like “a zoo animal.” He also admits that he only trusts a handful of friends. The 28-year-old singer admitted: “I get anxiety every day.” Ed explained how he deals with it:

[“I’ve been working on it for eight years. Whether it’s getting rid of your phone or only looking at emails twice a day. Or cutting down my friendship group to the bare minimum just so I can trust everyone.”]
