PETER MAYHEW, CHEWBACCA IN ‘STAR WARS’ FILMS, DIES AT 74 – (05/03/2019)

Peter Mayhew, who became known to fans worldwide as the lovable Wookiee Chewbacca in the Star Wars galaxy of films, has died. He was 74. Mayhew’s death comes just days before Star Wars Day on May 4th.

The actor died Tuesday in his North Texas home with his family by his side. His official Twitter account shared the news Thursday.

Mayhew had undergone spinal surgery in July in an effort to improve his mobility. The London native played Chewbacca in Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), Revenge of the Sith (2005) and The Force Awakens (2015).

Mayhew had done some minor acting – he played a minotaur in the Ray Harryhausen fantasy “Sinbad” and the “Eye of the Tiger” (1977) – and was working as a hospital orderly when he tried out for the part of Chewbacca. He got the role based on his physique; writer-director George Lucas was in desperate need of someone who would be able to play taller than Darth Vader. In his prime, Mayhew stood 7-foot-3. After wrapping the first Star Wars, he went back to work as an orderly and did not leave the job for good until the release of Return of the Jedi, after which he made a living off of Chewbacca, becoming a favorite on the fan convention circuit.

Mayhew acted as a key mentor to Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo, who appeared in a few Force Awakens scenes as the furry hero. Suotamo took over the Chewie mantle permanently in 2017’s The Last Jedi.

A private memorial for Mayhew will take place June 29th, and there will be a gathering for fans at EmpireConLA in December. Mayhew is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children.

KELLY CLARKSON OK AFTER HAVING APPENDIX REMOVED – (05/03/2019)

Kelly Clarkson did an amazing job hosting the 2019 Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night and she showed no signs of being in distress – even though she was rushed home after the show to prep for surgery.

The 37-year-old singer had her appendix removed the morning after hosting the show. She reportedly had been suffering from a “painful bout of appendicitis all week.” Kelly flew home to Los Angeles moments after the show ended in Las Vegas and was in surgery by Thursday morning.

Kelly was on stage all night long and even gave two performances. She sang her new UglyDolls song “Broken & Beautiful” and also performed a medley of the year’s chart-topping hits.

Kelly posted the confirmation in response to a tweet from a fan about her then-rumored surgery, one of many concerned social media posts about Kelly.

“Not gonna lie…. I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain,” she tweeted. “BUT thanks 2 all the amazing people @ Cedars-Sinai I flew home directly after the event, nailed the surgery early this morning, & feeling awesome now! Bye bye appendix #TheShowMustGoOn.”

JOE JONAS, SOPHIE TURNER OFFICIALLY TIE THE KNOT – (05/03/2019)

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have obtained their marriage license and are officially husband and wife.

Entertainment Tonight confirmed the union between Jonas and Turner by obtaining a copy of the couple’s marriage license, which they received on Wednesday.

People magazine also confirmed the news, citing online records that the singer and Game of Thrones star applied for a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada.

Jonas and Turner announced their engagement in October 2017 after almost a year of dating. They were both present at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday and appeared to get married during a surprise Las Vegas ceremony that took place after the show – led by an Elvis impersonator.

The ceremony was documented on DJ and producer Diplo’s Instagram story, which included video of Turner walking down the aisle as country duo Dan + Shay performed their song “Speechless.”

Jonas’ brothers Nick and Kevin were also featured in the video, serving as groomsmen.

Jonas had previously teased a summer wedding, which was to be held in France. Turner had also said her Game of Thrones co-star Maisie Williams would be her maid of honor.

Instead of rings, E! reports Jonas and Turner exchanged Ring Pops at the ceremony.

TWITTER HAS MELTDOWN FOLLOWING SURPRISE SOPHIE TURNER & JOE JONAS WEDDING – (05/03/2019)

Two brothers, two completely different weddings. Following Nick Jonas’ epic world-spanning wedding event to Priyanka Chopra last summer, Joe Jonas opted for the casual route. According to TMZ, the chapel was booked by the DNCE frontman and the GOT star a week ago. And according to People, the pair are still planning on having a more lavish ceremony in France.

He and Sophie Turner tied the knot in a Las Vegas chapel with a few pals following the Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night. All of the brothers were in attendance, as were their wives, Danielle and Priyanka. The wedding was livestreamed on Instagram by Diplo, and was officiated by an Elvis impersonator. The rings were large, and made with candy.

Twitter, predictably, freaked out, seeing as fans were banking on the pair tying the knot this summer after Game of Thrones ended. (Panic not! Looks like it will still happen!)

DRAKE RULES 2019 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS – (05/02/2019)

The 2019 Billboard Music Awards were handed out at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas last night.

With Kelly Clarkson hosting and Cardi B leading the nominees with 21 noms in 18 categories, it was Drake who was history-making: He became the most-awarded artist in BBMAs history, nabbing 12 awards to bring his all-time total up to 27. Highlights included:

Taylor Swift opened the show with a hyper-colorful performance of her new single “ME!” She was joined on stage by duet partner Brendon Urie for a high-energy performance of the hit.

Immediately after Taylor’s performance, host Kelly Clarkson kicked things off with a rapid-fire, note-perfect medley of hits by some of the night’s performers.

Mariah Carey was honored with the prestigious Icon Award. She took the stage to perform a medley of hits – including “A No No,” “Always Be My Baby,” “Emotions,” “We Belong Together” and “Hero” – before Jennifer Hudson presented her with her award. In her emotional acceptance speech, Carey thanked her fans, as well as her kids, 8-year-old twins Moroccon and Monroe, wishing them a happy birthday. Carey is only the eighth artist to ever receive the icon award at the Billboard Music Awards, following: Neil Diamond (2011), Stevie Wonder (2012), Prince (2013), Jennifer Lopez (2014), Céline Dion (2016), Cher (2017) and Janet Jackson (2018). “Icon? I really don’t think of myself that way. I started making music out of a necessity to survive,” she said in her speech. “I still feel like that lost interracial child who felt lost,” she continued.

Drake dropped a surprise Game of Thrones shout-out into one of his speeches. Taking the stage to accept the Billboard Top 200 Album award, Drake thanked family, friends and those who helped work on his album Scorpion – then proved he’s a big GoT fan by saying: “And shout-out to Ayra Stark for putting in that work last week.”

Madonna performed a high-tech performance wards that’s rumored to have cost her $5 million. The singer, 60, performed her new single “Medellin” with Colombian singer Maluma, 25 – and a quartet of hologram Madonnas, each representing a different character she inhabits on her upcoming concept album, Madame X.

The newly-reunited Jonas Brothers gave fans a taste of solo hits “Jealous” and “Cake By The Ocean” before performing their No. 1 comeback smash “Sucker.”

Paula Abdul closed the show with a medley of her late ‘80s / early ‘90s hits that came complete with one eyebrow-raising moment. Dancing through the crowd, Paula flung off her hat in one smooth Michael Jackson-esque move – and whipped it straight into Julianne Hough’s throat.

SOPHIE TURNER AND JOE JONAS GET MARRIED! Shortly after the Billboard Music Awards ceremony, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas got married in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony. Diplo documented the ceremony on his live Instagram feed; an Elvis impersonator performed the ceremony, which took place at Chapel L’Amour inside A Little White Wedding Chapel. Khalid, Joe’s brothers Nick and Kevin, also reportedly attended and Dan + Shay performed “Speechless.”

ED SHEERAN AND JUSTIN BIEBER COLLABORATING – (05/01/2019)

Justin Bieber appears to be teasing an upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran.

Bieber, who is currently still on hiatus from music, posted images of himself and Sheeran standing in front of a green screen backdrop. He captioned the snaps simply with the number “10,” which could point towards a single release 10 days from now.

Scooter Braun, Bieber’s manager, also shared an edit of the photos.

Bieber released his last album, Purpose, back in 2015. In January, Scooter Braun teased that its follow-up would arrive in 2019.

Despite announcing he was taking a break to “repair some deep rooted issues” last month, Bieber surprised fans recently by taking to the stage with Ariana Grande at Coachella.

Meanwhile, Sheeran – who released his last album ÷ (Divide) in 2017 – has also been in the studio with Tokyo band One OK Rock. The band described their time recording with the star as “amazing.”

Ed and Justin both recently lent their voices to Lil Dicky’s new charity single and music video, “Earth.”

Justin and Ed are longtime friends, and have teamed up before to co-write the hits “Love Yourself” and “Cold Water.”

In the behind-the-scenes clip, you can see the moment Taylor first met Benjamin, and it was love at first sight. Once Taylor found out that the kitten was actually available to adopt, the rest was history.

“I know kittens are cute, but that kitten’s special,” she says. She and Brendon couldn’t stop talking about the kitten throughout shooting, either. “I love that you got him, too,” Brendon says. “It’s the sweetest thing.”

Taylor revealed the new addition to her family, which also includes cats Meredith and Olivia, last Friday – the same day she released the new song and video.

HALLE BERRY REVEALS ICONIC SANDRA BULLOCK ROLE SHE ALMOST GOT: Halle Berry dishes that one of Sandra Bullock’s most iconic roles almost went to her. “I don’t know if you know this, but I was offered Speed before Sandra Bullock,” Berry told ET. “I stupidly said no. But in my defense, when I read the script the bus didn’t leave the parking lot.”

PETE DAVIDSON BAILS ON PERFORMANCE BECAUSE CLUB OWNER BRINGS UP ARIANA AND KATE – (05/01/2019)

Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive.

Pete Davidson has had a crazy year, between breaking off an engagement with Ariana Grande and recently splitting from Kate Beckinsale. After Vinnie Brand, the owner of the Stress Factory Comedy Club in Bridgeport, Connecticut about the SNL star’s exes, he left before performing as scheduled.

Page Six reports that Davidson was miffed because he asked Brand to not go onstage, but that he did anyway, and then made a sarcastic request that no one in the audience ask Davidson about Grande and Davidson.

Davidson took to Instagram stories to apologize. “I’m sorry that we had to leave the show before I got to go on. The owner, Vinnie Brand, disrespected me, and did something that I told him not to do,” Davidson said, “and I can’t perform under those circumstances.”

He is reportedly planning to perform a free show for ticket-holders.

Fans on social media seemed to support Davidson. “Yo the owner of the Stress Factory CT was wild, uncalled for and disrespectful to Pete so I don’t blame him for bouncing, I would’ve too,” tweeted one fan.

But TMZ reports that the owner played his IG video on the club’s screen, and viewers were angry. One yelled, “F**k you, Pete!!!”
