ARIANA GRANDE NO LONGER ATTENDING GRAMMYS 2019 AFTER DISAGREEMENT WITH PRODUCERS – (02/07/2019)
Ariana Grande will no longer be in attendance at the 2019 Grammys this Sunday after a disagreement with producers.
The 26-year-old singer – who was set to attend and perform – felt “insulted” after producers refused to let her perform “7 Rings” during the show, an insider told Variety. The source went on to say that Ariana and the producers reached a compromise where “7 Rings” would be part of a medley, before Ariana pulled out after producers insisted that the second song would be one that they chose.
Ariana is nominated for two Grammys – Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “God is a Woman” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener.
Meanwhile, Ariana gave her “7 Rings” music video director, Hannah Lux Davis, a Tiffany’s diamond ring of her very own. The special moment was captured in a new behind-the-scenes video from the music video’s set.
Ariana presented Davis with the little blue box and Davis opened it in shock. “No it’s not,” Davis said in disbelief. To which Ariana replied, “It’s 8 Rings now.”
The inspiration for the song “7 Rings” came from a trip that Ariana and her friends took to the Tiffany store in New York City on a particularly rough day. Ariana ended up buying all her friends matching diamond rings.
TAYLOR SWIFT WILL NOT ATTEND GRAMMYS: It doesn’t look like Taylor Swift will be at the 2019 Grammy Awards this weekend. It is being reported that the 29-year-old entertainer has decided to skip the awards show where her album reputation is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Variety reports. Rumor has it Taylor may be attending the 2019 BAFTA Awards in London – which is on the same day as the Grammys – to support boyfriend Joe Alwyn, but it has not been confirmed. Taylor has been in London the past few weeks filming the upcoming movie-musical Cats.
DUA LIPA, CHLOE X HALLE & MORE JOIN GRAMMYS 2019 LINEUP: The 2019 Grammy Awards just announced another round of performers that includes Dua Lipa, who is set to take the stage during the show alongside Grammy winner St. Vincent. Other announced artists include nominees Travis Scott and Chloe x Halle as well as previous Grammy winner Mark Ronson. Andra Day, Fantasia and Yolanda Adams are also set to take the stage for a touching tribute to Aretha Franklin. Lady Gaga and Ronson will presumably perform the Grammy-nominated A Star Is Born song they co-wrote together, “Shallow.” The song is up for Record and Song of the Year, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Pop Duo/Group Song. Gaga is also nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, for her piano version of the title track from her Joanne album. Previously announced performers include Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Miley Cyrus and more. The Grammys, hosted by Alicia Keys, air live on CBS Sunday.
BRADLEY COOPER TALKS OSCARS SNUB WITH OPRAH – (02/07/2019)
Bradley Cooper admits that he’s pretty embarrassed about getting passed over for a Best Director nomination for his directorial debut, A Star Is Born.
Beloved by critics and audiences alike, many were shocked when his name didn’t appear in the final nominations. But he wasn’t.
Cooper told Oprah Winfrey for her upcoming SuperSoul Conversations TV special: “I was not surprised, I’m never surprised about not getting nominated. The first thing I felt was embarrassment, actually. I felt embarrassed that I didn’t do my part…Like, ‘Oh gosh, I didn’t do my job.’”
Still, the film did get eight Oscar nominations, including Best Actor (Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga) and Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott).
RATINGS FOR DONALD TRUMP’S STATE OF THE UNION UP: Donald Trump’s 82-minute State of the Union address—almost as long as Bill Clinton’s record-breaking 2000 SOTU—touched on a lot of issues, including the economy, the wall and the state of the union. In metered markets, CBS had a 4.6/7, taking the number #1 spot among the broadcast networks away from usual top dog NBC, Deadline reports. NBC nabbed a 4.5/7, while ABC snagged a 4.1/7 and FOX managed a 3.1/5.

LADY GAGA WILL PERFORM ‘SHALLOW’ AT THE GRAMMYS – (02/06/2019)
After the Motion Picture Academy confirmed that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will perform their Oscar-nominated song “Shallow” at the Academy Awards February 24th, Deadline reports that Gaga will perform the song at the Grammys this weekend.
Billboard reported last week that Grammy organizers had invited Gaga to perform on the Sunday night telecast, where she’s up for four awards for “Shallow” – Record and Song of the Year, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Pop Duo/Group Song, the latter with duet partner Cooper. She’s also nominated for a fifth Grammy: Best Pop Solo Performance for her piano version of the title track from her Joanne album.
Cooper won’t join Gaga for the Grammy performance because he’ll be in London that same night at the BAFTAs representing A Star is Born, which has seven nominations. Cooper directed, co-starred, co-wrote and co-produced A Star is Born.
The Grammys take place Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will air live on CBS. Alicia Keys will host.
JENNIFER LOPEZ TO PERFORM MOTOWN TRIBUTE AT GRAMMYS – (02/06/2019)
Jennifer Lopez is set to perform a Motown tribute at the 2019 Grammy Awards this weekend.
The performance was announced in a commercial for the event, which aired on CBS. Motown will be celebrated once again two days later when the Recording Academy hosts its Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration concert at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. The event will be filmed and later televised in April. The Grammys will air on CBS this Sunday. Alicia Keys is set to host.
However, many people have expressed confusion over JLo’s involvement in the Motown tribute.
Motown has long been seen as a symbol of Black excellence, elevating the careers of iconic artists like The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, and Marvin Gaye.
Lopez is Latina, and her parents are from Puerto Rico.
Some fans thought that it would be more appropriate for a Black artist to perform the tribute instead. Many of Motown’s most famous artists still perform. And some saw Lopez taking on this number during Black History Month as particularly problematic.

PANIC! AT THE DISCO’S BRENDON URIE WANTS FANS TO STOP KISSING HIM – (02/06/2019)
Panic! At The Disco road manager Zack Hall revealed last week that the group may take action to have certain fans removed during singer Brendon Urie‘s traditional “death walk” if some particular behavior continues, with Urie himself weighing in on the reason why.
It seems that during Panic’s shows, when Urie makes his way into the audience for the song “Death of a Bachelor,” there have been fans that have attempted to either kiss or, even worse, lick the singer. Hall wrote on Twitter, “I’m done with this crap of kissing Brendon during the ‘death walk.’ If I see it, you will be kicked out of the show right away.”
Urie discussed it during a recent livestream chat, explaining, “I went in for a hug and a girl like, kissed my neck . . . yikes dude, the neck kiss is so intimate too, which is an extra ‘f**k you’ to me, you know what I mean?” He added, “Please stop kissing me on the death walk.”
Panic! At The Disco is currently in the midst of a North American tour that next stops in Memphis on Wednesday (February 6th), wrapping up on February 20th in Sacramento, California.

SUPER BOWL RATINGS HIT HISTORIC LOW: The New England Patriots conquered the Los Angeles Rams Sunday night, 13-3, but viewers didn’t seem that engaged. Overall, it was the worst ratings since 2009, when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals. CBS broadcast the show this year for the first time since 2016.
ADAM LEVINE BREAKS SILENCE AFTER MAROON 5’S SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW – (02/05/2019)
Adam Levine spoke out after Maroon 5 played a tame Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday.
The singer took to Instagram, where he wrote a long missive alongside an image of the “One Love” light display featured during their performance.
“When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote,” Levine, 39, captioned the photo. “Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love.”
He continued, “And the list of words is… Forgive, Laugh, Cry, Smile, Share, Live, Endure, Embrace, Remember, Enlighten, Preserve, Inspire, Sweat, Fight, Express, Give, Receive, Elevate, Climb, Unify, Fortify, Soften, Dance, Scream, Dream, Educate, Provide, Inhale, Exhale, Persevere, Stand, Kneel, Overcome, Love, Listen.”
Maroon 5 was plagued with backlash leading up to the Super Bowl Halftime Show, largely due to artists protesting the NFL over its treatment of Colin Kaepernick.
Levine addressed the controversy with Entertainment Tonight Thursday, saying, “It’s what it is. We expected it. We’d like to move on from it and… speak through the music.”
Levine added that he consulted many people before making the decision to perform amid the controversy over the NFL’s handling of players like Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the national anthem. “I silenced all the noise and listened to myself,” Levine said, “and made my decision based upon how I felt.”
MAROON 5 SEES MAJOR SALES BOOST THANKS TO SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW: The consensus may be that Maroon 5 delivered a lackluster Super Bowl halftime show, but the gig still earned the band a major sales boost. According to Billboard, initial reports from Nielsen Music say Maroon 5’s catalog scored a 488% sales gain on the day of the big game. It climbed from 4,000 in download sales on Saturday to 24,000 on Sunday. The six songs the band performed during the halftime show had an even bigger sales boost: 587%. Combined sales of “Harder to Breathe,” “This Love,” “Girls Like You,” “She Will Be Loved,” “Sugar” and “Moves Like Jagger” rose from nearly 3,000 sold on Saturday to 18,000 sold on Sunday. Maroon 5’s special guests for the halftime show, Travis Scott and Big Boi, also saw a bump in sales. Travis’ “Sicko Mode” jumped by 80%, while OutKast’s “The Way You Move” – performed by the duo’s Big Boi – had a massive 3,408% gain.
MILLIONS ATTEND MARSHMELLO ‘FORTNITE’ CONCERT – (02/05/2019)
This past weekend millions of Fortnite players logged in to the game to watch the EDM star Marshmello perform a 10-minute concert.
Players gathered at the virtual Pleasant Park in Fortnite to watch the performance and could dance along to the music with other players in the game. More than 10 million players logged in to the game on Saturday to watch the virtual concert.
On the day of the concert, Fortnite released a special mode that prevented players from shooting each other while they were in the concert area.
After the show, several players told Marshmello that his performance was their first concert. Dozens of players and parents shared videos of themselves dancing and having fun during the short set and Marshmello returned for an encore run of the performance later in the day. An extended version of the mix was uploaded to Apple Music, with a 29-minute running time.
Marshmello also shared his thoughts on the event, writing: “What makes me happiest about today is that so many people got to experience their first concert ever. All the videos I keep seeing of people laughing and smiling throughout the set are amazing. Man I’m still so pumped. If you thought that concert was lit, try coming to a real show. The Mellogang goes hardddddd!”
