ED SHEERAN EARNS SECOND RIAA-DIAMOND CERTIFICATION WITH ‘SHAPE OF YOU’ – (01/25/2019)
Ed Sheeran has made history once more with the Diamond certification of his Grammy winning smash “Shape Of You,” achieving sales and streams exceeding 10 million. Reaching this milestone for the second time makes Sheeran only the 4th artist to score multiple Diamond certified songs since the RIAA first implemented the Diamond certification 20 years ago. Sheeran’s Grammy winning song “Thinking Out Loud” was Diamond certified in 2017.
Meanwhile, Sheeran made a surprise performance at a private event in Anaheim, California, this week to announce the launch of his new range of guitars, Sheeran by Lowden, a new line of acoustics made by the high-quality Northern Ireland guitar company.
Sheeran will resume his worldwide stadium tour in support of ÷ (Divide) later this month. The tour – which included a completely sold-out North American leg – set the world record in 2018 for highest grossing tour ever in a calendar year, according to Pollstar. Including the 2017 dates, the tour becomes the third highest grossing tour ever behind only U2 and the Rolling Stones.
PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN ARE GOING NANNY-FREE – (01/25/2019)
Forget a team of royal helpers, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly skipping hiring a nanny, a la Prince William and Kate Middleton. Per a report in Vanity Fair, “they do not plan to hire a nanny or nurse initially, and will instead rely on the help of Meghan’s mother.”
Doria Ragland is reportedly moving in, and will have her own wing of the house.
TECH
While the pair won’t be relying on human helpers, they will be setting up a very 2.0 nursery, fitted with cameras, a stereo and plenty of security.
“They are going all out with the refurbishment of the house, and as Harry loves his gadgets, it’s going to be very cool,” a source says. “They’ll be able to control everything from their smart phones.”
GENDER NEUTRAL
The royals are also not thinking pink (or blue). Instead, they are preparing a gender-neutral eco-conscious nursery, with vegan paint infused with eucalyptus oil.
Vicky Charles, Soho Farmhouse’s design director, has reportedly been hired to help.
BACKSTREET BOYS TEACH CHANCE THE RAPPER SOME MOVES IN NEW TEASER FOR DORITOS SUPER BOWL AD – (01/25/2019)
In a new teaser for their upcoming Doritos Super Bowl ad, the Backstreet Boys attempt to teach Chance the Rapper some of their signature dance moves.
The clip opens with Chance trying out some choreography to the band’s song, “I Want It That Way.” “Terrible, dude,” AJ McClean tells him. “I think it’s the pants,” Chance explains. Brian Littrell chimes in and says, “No excuses, man, let’s do it again.”
The whole group shows him the dance move again, but he still can’t quite master it.
The first teaser for the Flamin’ Hot Nachos ad was released last week. It featured the guys of BSB posing in coordinating outfits as Chance squeezes his way into the frame and awkwardly joins the group.
The 30-second commercial is set to air on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3rd.

LADY GAGA SAYS OSCAR NODS MAKE HER ‘HEART EXPLODE’ – (01/24/2019)
Lady Gaga received two Oscar nominations on Tuesday: Best Actress for A Star Is Born, and Best Original Song for “Shallow,” also from A Star Is Born. She’s the first person to be nominated in those two categories in the same year – and she is just a little emotional about it.
“I think sometimes people forget that even though this is a big movie, we’re all really artists that are like kids playing in a sandbox,” she tells The Los Angeles Times. “To be recognized at this level just makes the heart explode, because truly and deeply, I still very much feel like a child with big dreams.”
Gaga also commented on the fact that her co-star Bradley Cooper wasn’t nominated for Best Director, seen by many as a major snub by the Academy.
“At the end of the day, he knows that he’s the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast,” she explains. “I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition.”
Gaga was previously nominated for co-writing the song “Til It Happens to You” from the documentary The Hunting Ground.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has been announced as a presenter at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. She joins Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman, Bradley Cooper, Adam Driver, Sam Elliott, Henry Golding, Ben Hardy, Ken Jeong, Gwilym Lee, Rami Malek, Joe Mazzello, John David Washington, Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh, who are also set to take the stage during the ceremony.
Gaga, Cooper and Elliott are nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category for A Star Is Born.
ARIANA GRANDE REVEALS ‘THANK U, NEXT’ ALBUM COVER – (01/24/2019)
Please note the following story contains language that could be considered offensive.
After unveiling her thank u, next tracklist ahead of schedule Tuesday, Ariana Grande surprised fans by dropping the album cover early.
Ari took to her Twitter yesterday to share the brand new cover, which she says is her favorite yet. “this is my fav album cover i think. brian painted me. fredo shot me. made with tru, deep friendship and love. just like this music,” Ariana wrote.
She added, “she still upside-down. but this time she kinda ……… f*cks w it lol… OH AND i’m sleeping again. which means you’re gonna love it.”
The new album is set to feature 12 songs, including the already released “Imagine,” “Thank U, Next,” and “7 rings.”
Much like her Sweetener cover, this one also features an upside-down photo of Ari. In the pic, a seemingly topless Ari hugs herself while sporting a fierce cat eye and a vampy dark lip. The words “thank u, next” are painted across her neck and chest.
BRENDON URIE TEASES PANIC! AT THE DISCO ON BROADWAY – (01/24/2019)
A recent post on the Panic! At The Disco’s Instagram hints at a potential Broadway run for the band. The photo shows front man Brendon Urie holding a playbill based on Panic!’s most recent album, Pray For The Wicked.
According to Alt Press, Urie revealed that he has been discussing ideas for his own musicals with film directors. “I’ve been talking to a couple of movie directors about film music ideas and about doing musical theatre, Broadway maybe,” Urie says, “The ideal would be to write music for an idea somebody else has come up with.”
Urie has already made a successful debut as an actor in Broadway’s Kinky Boots. However, his current musical ideas are “about doing my origin story, growing up in Vegas, so we will see what happens.”
However, the posted Playbill is just a piece of fan art, a gift from Prudential Center, where the band played at on January 18th. The band received a book with messages from fans and fan art inside, including the “Playbill.”

BIGGEST SNUBS AND WINS FROM 2019 OSCAR NOMINATIONS – (01/23/2019)
While there were many celebrated films this year, there wasn’t an obvious front-runner for Best Picture, so the always eagerly-anticipated Academy Awards nominations were even more closely watched than usual Tuesday morning.
THE NOMINATIONS
Roma and The Favourite led the pack, with 10 nominations each. A Star Is Born and Vice followed with two apiece. Black Panther nabbed seven nods, and made history as the first comic book movie to be in contention for Best Picture.
Spike Lee’s BlackKklansman earned six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, both firsts for Lee.
SNUBS
There were the usual snubs as well. One of the biggest was Bradley Cooper, who got passed over in the directing category for A Star Is Born, which has raked in more than $400M worldwide. As Variety points out, the Academy often skips over successful actor-directors; he joins Barbra Streisand (Yentl), Ben Affleck (Argo) and Angelina Jolie (Unbroken) whose directing work didn’t get recognized.
For acting awards, Timothee Chalamet got skipped for his work in Beautiful Boy. Plus, no actors from Black Panther got nods. Many thought Ethan Hawke was a shoe-in for his critically acclaimed work in First Reformed, but nope. Emily Blunt also got skipped over for her work in Mary Poppins Returns and A Quiet Place.
Damien Chazelle’s First Man, starring Claire Foy and Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, got shut out completely from the main categories.
The ceremony, which is host-less after Kevin Hart stepped down, will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
JUSTIN & HAILEY BIEBER DELAY WEDDING AGAIN: Justin and Hailey Bieber just can’t find the perfect day to celebrate their union; TMZ reports that the 300 people who received their latest save the date card were told the party is being rescheduled. They learned that some of their closest friends couldn’t make the date (also Justin’s 25th birthday), so they’re looking for a better one. The pair are already married, this is just a celebratory formality, though they will reportedly have a second ceremony. (TMZ)

The new album’s release date will be revealed on Friday, when the cover artwork and presale link go live.
