DID EGYPTAIR FAKE DREW BARRYMORE INTERVIEW? – (10/05/2018)

Representatives for Drew Barrymore are claiming that she “did not participate” in a celebrity profile published in an EgyptAir inflight magazine. The piece drew a firestorm of attention for a variety of perceived offenses from the shoddy grammar of the article itself to insensitive observations allegedly made by both the author and the subject.

Reads one paragraph:  “Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary [sic] take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother.”

But wait, there’s more. The piece continues: “Psychologists believe that her behavior is only natural since she lacked the male role model in her life after her parents’ divorce when she was only 9 years. Ever since that time, she has been subconsciously seeking attention and care from a male figure; but unfortunately things do not always go as planned and she has not yet succeeded in any relationship for various reasons.”

Yikes! But then Barrymore herself gets quoted saying: “I cannot deny that women made a great achievement over [the] past century, there is significant progress recorded by people who study women status throughout history.” Another comment about parenting reads: “I do not intentionally follow certain parenting methods with my daughters and I do not consult with psychologists… I focus on nurturing their minds as well as their small bodies.”

Did she actually say that? NOPE, her rep screams. In a statement to HuffPo, Barrymore’s team kept it simple, saying that she “did not participate,” and that they’re working with the airline PR team to rectify the error.

The BBC has reps on record saying she didn’t “technically… sit down with EgyptAir for an interview,” but that the quotes were drawn from one such press conference.

EGYPTAIR, HFPA RESPOND

EgyptAir stood by the piece on Twitter, writing:  “This a professional magazine interview conducted by Dr. Aida Tekla Former president of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and one of the voting members of the Golden Globes.”

Meanwhile, the HFPA says it’s investigating. “We are aware that an article under the byline of our member Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly regarding Drew Barrymore, published in EgyptAir’s Horus magazine, has come into question,” the H.F.P.A. said. “Ms. Barrymore has been interviewed by H.F.P.A. members many times and we always appreciate her willingness to speak to us. As an organization comprised of journalists, the H.F.P.A. expects its members to uphold the highest degree of integrity in their journalistic activities. Based on our preliminary investigation, we understand that parts of the article in question were not written by Dr. Takla-O’Reilly and that other portions of the article may have come from other sources. We regret any distress caused to Ms. Barrymore by this article.”

FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR A STRING OF BURGLARIES TARGETING RIHANNA & MORE – (10/04/2018)

Four people have been arrested for a string of Los Angeles burglaries, including Rihanna’s and Christina Milian’s homes. According to Billboard, the four suspects, Tyress Williams, Jshawne Daniels, Damaji Hall and Hall’s mother, Ashle Hall, are believed to be behind as many as two dozen burglaries in the L.A. area, affecting properties owned by Rihanna, Christina Milian, Yasiel Puig and Robert Woods. Authorities have seized a number of items believed to have been taken during the series of break-ins, ranging from “expensive purses” to at least one vehicle. An estimated $50,000 in cash was recovered as well.

Lillian Carranza, captain of LAPD’s commercial crimes division, said during a press conference Tuesday (October 2nd), “During recent months, the Los Angeles Police Department has become aware of a series of residential burglaries targeting actors, producers, musicians, and professional athletes living in the Los Angeles area. Initially, it was believed that these homes were being burglarized at random. However, detectives learned that this was not the case.”

Carranza added, “The group continuously changed their attire and appearance, wearing button-down shirts and driving luxury cars, all while scouting the homes of known celebrities and athletes as potential targets.”

On another note, a separate report from USA Today noted that the police had also found a list of future targets including LeBron James, Matt Damon and Viola Davis.

TAYLOR SWIFT MEETS YOUNG FAN WITH AUTISM AFTER DONATING MONEY TO GET HIM A SERVICE DOG – (10/03/2018)

Taylor Swift invited a young fan with autism to her show in Houston Monday, two years after donating $10,000 toward helping the boy purchase his service dog.

The now-8-year-old Jacob, his therapy dog Reid, his mother Allison Hill and sister Jordan Fox were all given front-row tickets and got to meet Taylor backstage.

Jacob’s mom posted about Taylor’s kindness and generosity on the Autism Speaks Facebook page, and included several photos of their meet-and-greet.

“[Taylor] didn’t see my son’s disability she just saw him,” she writes. “She got down on her knees and looked him right in the eyes and said hello and that she was thankful HE came to her show even though she knew it was loud and there was so much going on.”

She adds, “After the picture was taken, the flash scared him so he snuggled right up to her and her sweet smile says it all…We feel so blessed! Taylor is such an amazing person for doing this for us…again! Jacob made it through almost the entire concert. Taylor is such an autism advocate, we love her!”

The meeting was made possible after Swift discovered Jacob’s 12-year-old sister and cousin Makaylee Duhon’s cover of her hit, “Blank Space,” in 2016.

The pair changed the lyrics and sang, “We got a long list of donations / But we don’t see your name / We got a blank space baby / So donate today.”

Nearly a month after the video was posted on Jacob’s GoFundMe page, Taylor and her mother, Andrea Swift donated $10,000 with the message, “Jacob, we hope you love your new dog! Please tell your cousins that they did a great job on the song! Love, Taylor and Andrea Swift.”

Since receiving his service dog in June, Jacob has been able to walk in grocery stores, cross busy streets and avoid dangerous situations.
